Overview

Fabious

Fabious is a secret tidestallion mount added in patch 8.2 "Rise of Azshara" (Battle for Azeroth). This elegant aquatic creature periodically appears off the shores of Nazjatar and poses for players. To obtain the mount, you need to take a selfie with it using the S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera. Fabious is unique in that he can be obtained by all players nearby at the moment he appears — he does not vanish after the first selfie.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Unique model — Fabious is a tidestallion with a vivid, shimmering design unlike any other mount in the game.
  • Secret mount — one of the few mounts that require solving a riddle rather than simply killing a boss or earning an achievement.
  • Works underwater — Fabious can swim underwater in Nazjatar, which makes him especially useful in this zone.
  • Counts toward your overall mount collection for achievements.

Requirements

  • A character of any level able to reach Nazjatar (level 50+ is recommended for a comfortable run through the introductory quest chain)
  • The S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera (S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera) or its upgraded version, the S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera MkII — mandatory! An ordinary screenshot does not work
  • Access to Nazjatar — requires completing the Battle for Azeroth 8.2 introductory quest chain

How to Get the S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera

The S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera is the mandatory tool for obtaining the mount. There are two ways to get it:

Method 1: Capital City Quest

Head to Stormwind (Alliance) or Orgrimmar (Horde). Find the photographer NPC who hands out the starting quest:

  • Alliance: a gnome photographer is located in the outskirts of Stormwind, by the lake near the embassy
  • Horde: a similar NPC is located in Orgrimmar

Complete the quest and receive the S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera.

Method 2: Garrison Mission

If you have a garrison in Draenor, the camera can appear as a reward for the follower mission "Field Photography". The mission requires at least one level 100 follower and costs 20 garrison resources. The mission appears at random.

Upgrading to MkII

After obtaining the base camera, you can pick up an additional quest, "Crystal Clarity", from the same NPC. The quest sends you to Yojamba Isle in Stranglethorn Vale for a Pristine Crystal Shard. The reward is a S.E.L.F.I.E. lens upgrade kit that turns the camera into the S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera MkII with additional filters. Any version of the camera works for obtaining Fabious.

How to Reach Nazjatar

Nazjatar is an underwater zone added in patch 8.2 of Battle for Azeroth. For your first visit you must complete an introductory quest chain:

  1. Travel to Boralus (Alliance) or Dazar'alor (Horde)
  2. Pick up the starting quest: "The Wolf's Offensive" (Alliance) or "The Warchief's Order" (Horde)
  3. Follow the quest chain — it will take you to Nazjatar via a cinematic
  4. After completing the initial Nazjatar quests, a portal opens in the portal room of your capital (Boralus/Dazar'alor)

Once the portal is open, you can travel to Nazjatar instantly at any time.

Fabious Spawn Points

Fabious appears at several points along the edges of Nazjatar, swimming out of the water walls that surround the zone. Known coordinates:

Point Coordinates Landmark
1 /way Nazjatar 27 30 Newhome — northwest
2 /way Nazjatar 40 11 Northern part of the zone
3 /way Nazjatar 49 85 Southern part of the zone, near the Chitterspine caves
4 /way Nazjatar 75 51 Eastern part of the zone

Fabious appears every 2–8 hours at one of these points. After appearing, he slowly swims along the shore, poses for a while and then vanishes. His time on screen is limited, so you need to act fast.

Step-by-Step Acquisition Guide

  1. Get the S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera — complete the quest in Stormwind or Orgrimmar (see the section above).
  2. Add the camera to your action bar — drag the S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera from your toy collection onto your spell bar for quick access.
  3. Travel to Nazjatar — through the portal in Boralus or Dazar'alor.
  4. Create a kneel macro:
/kneel

This helps reduce the size of your character on screen so that Fabious is more visible in the selfie. 5. Take position at one of the spawn points — point /way Nazjatar 27 30 (Newhome) is recommended, as it is the one players mention most often. 6. Wait for Fabious to appear — he will swim out of the water wall and start posing. 7. Activate the S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera — click the toy on your action bar. 8. Use /kneel to crouch so that your character does not block Fabious. 9. Aim the camera at Fabious — he must be fully visible in the frame. 10. Take the shot — press the button to capture the photo. 11. Check your bags — the Fabious mount will appear right in your inventory. If the mount does not show up, try taking another selfie — sometimes it takes several attempts. 12. Use the item from your bag to learn the mount.

Tips and Tricks

  • Everyone can get the mount. Unlike most rare mounts, Fabious does not disappear after one player takes a selfie. Every player near him can take a photo and get the mount — let others know in zone chat!
  • Kneel (/kneel). If your character is too large (Tauren, Draenei), use /kneel before shooting. Fabious must be fully visible in the photo.
  • Check several points. If you don't want to wait in one spot, periodically fly around all four known spawn points.
  • Use the SilverDragon or RareScanner addon. These addons help you detect Fabious when he appears near you.
  • Watch zone chat. Other players often report Fabious appearing in Nazjatar's general chat. Don't hesitate to ask whether anyone has seen him recently.
  • The wait is 2–8 hours. Be ready for a long wait. Bring a fishing pole or find other things to do in Nazjatar while you wait.
  • The S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera MkII is optional. The basic S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera works just as well as the S.E.L.F.I.E. Camera MkII. The upgrade is not required to obtain the mount.
  • Fabious does not attack. He is completely peaceful and immune to damage — you don't need to fight him, only photograph him.
  • The best time to search is off-peak server hours (early mornings, weekdays), when competition for spawn points is minimal, although the mount can be obtained by everyone at once.
