Farstrider's Mercy is an epic one-handed dagger from the Midnight expansion. It's a crafted weapon: blacksmiths create it through the Short Blades specialization branch. The base item level is 246, and the required character level is 90.
The model is built around blood elf aesthetics. A curved blade with golden inlay, a hilt with dark wrapping and a shaped pommel — the look references the Farstrider rangers' order of Quel'Thalas, after whom the dagger is named. This is the "woodland," restrained version of the blade, in contrast to the "magical" execution of its paired model — the
Magister's Ritual Knife: both daggers are made through the same specialization and use a similar set of materials.
The model's main appeal for collectors is its calm, readable silhouette without an overload of effects. The dagger fits equally well in both light and dark armor sets, which is why it's eagerly collected as a "dress" weapon. The appearance unlocks in your account-wide wardrobe once the item is obtained by any character who can wield daggers.
Farstrider's Mercy is a crafted weapon from Midnight Blacksmithing. You simply can't buy the dagger on the auction house: it binds when obtained, so it's either created by your own blacksmith character, or you place an order with another player through the work order system.
The Blacksmithing trainer is Bemarrin. He stands in the Silvermoon City Bazaar, by the profession table. The map coordinates within the city:
The profession is learned from him, and the introductory quests are taken there too. Nearby is a separate recipe vendor, from whom some plans can be purchased for a profession currency — Master Smith's Zeal.
The Farstrider's Mercy recipe isn't sold as a separate schematic — it unlocks in the Blacksmithing specialization tree. The path to it is as follows:
Knowledge points accumulate from your first item crafts, one-time treatise treasures in Midnight zones, weekly profession quests and turning in patron orders. On average it comes out to about 19 points per week, while first crafts and one-time sources give a large batch right away. Unlocking the needed node usually takes one to two weeks of active play.
A single copy of the dagger requires the following set of reagents:
| Reagent | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Mined in Midnight zones, auction house. | |
| 2 | Mined in Midnight zones, auction house. | |
| 7 | Smelted via Blacksmithing, auction house. | |
| 7 | Smelted via Blacksmithing, auction house. | |
| 1 | Midnight Leatherworking, auction house. | |
| 2 | Weekly quests, see below. |
As an epic weapon, the dagger requires two
Sparks of Resonance. This is a seasonal crafting currency that can't be bought on the auction house. The main source is a weekly quest from Lady Liadrin in Silvermoon; additional sparks are periodically given by other activities if you're falling behind the seasonal cap. Since a spark is granted roughly once a week, and the dagger needs two, the minimum accumulation time is about two weeks.
Once the materials are gathered, craft the dagger at an anvil. Into the recipe's optional slots you can add a Thalassian missive (locks in secondary stats for your specialization), an embellishment (a special combat effect) and item-level upgrade marks.
If your character doesn't have Blacksmithing, place an order with another player. The work order board in the Silvermoon City Bazaar is by the vendor Mar'nah. Gather the materials in advance, find Farstrider's Mercy in the list and create a public or personal order. In a public order you provide all the materials yourself and pay the blacksmith a commission; in a personal order a blacksmith you know can add any missing reagents themselves. You'll have to supply your own Sparks of Resonance in any case — they don't transfer between players.
Farstrider's Mercy belongs to the same graphical series as the season's paired crafted dagger. If you're collecting this series, take note of the related model.
| Dagger | Source | Appearance theme |
|---|---|---|
| Midnight Blacksmithing, Short Blades specialization | Dark wrapping, golden inlay, Farstrider aesthetics | |
| Midnight Blacksmithing, Short Blades specialization | Magical decor, runic inlay of the Silvermoon magisters |
Both daggers unlock at the same specialization node and use a similar material base, so it's easier to unlock "Short Blades" once and craft both models in a single trip to the anvil. There are no other known color variants of this particular appearance at the moment.
In Midnight, daggers belong to the one-handed weapon category, and most classes can swap their appearance to other one-handed weapons and vice versa. The exception is rogues: for them this transmog freedom is not yet available.
Stockpile Sparks of Resonance in advance. If you're planning several epic crafts, do the weekly quest from Lady Liadrin starting from the very first seasonal week — sparks don't expire and accumulate in your account-wide stash.
Don't invest extra knowledge points into "Long Blades" if your goal is specifically the dagger. It's enough to bring the branch up to the "Short Blades" node and save the rest of the points.
Buy raw materials on the auction house in batches. Prices for Suffering Tantalum and Blinding Thorium fluctuate noticeably over the week — it's more profitable to stock up when the main production has already died down.
To unlock the appearance, you don't have to keep the dagger equipped constantly. It's enough to obtain the item once: the model immediately enters the wardrobe, and you'll be able to transmog it onto any suitable weapon.
Once you've unlocked the "Short Blades" node, craft both models in the series right away — Farstrider's Mercy and the Magister's Ritual Knife. This saves time on re-leveling the specialization.
If you don't have Blacksmithing, check with the blacksmith in advance up to what item level they can bring the dagger — the level doesn't matter for transmog, but it's convenient to get the combat version too in a single order.
