Felcrystal Scorpion
Overview

Reins of the Felcrystal Scorpion is an uncommon ground mount added to World of Warcraft in patch 10.1.0 as part of the Trading Post updates. It is a massive scorpion with a shell of bright green fel crystals, visually echoing Skorpyron, the first boss of the Nighthold raid in Legion. According to the model description, this mount is the result of an experiment in infusing fel energy into one of Skorpyron's offspring.
The mount is sold at the Trading Post for Trader's Tender — the in-game currency of monthly activities. The price is 650 Trader's Tender. The scorpion has appeared in the rotation several times since July 2023 and was last available in February 2025, so it is now awaiting its next return.
Why you want this mount
- Unique green scorpion model — the only publicly available scorpion variant with glowing fel crystals. It shares its skeleton with the
Reins of the Amber Scorpion and the Kor'kron Annihilator, but features a unique color scheme. - Lore reference — the model ties directly to Skorpyron from the Nighthold and the theme of fel energies, which fits well into the collections of warlock and demon hunter players.
- No raid grind — there is no need to clear outdated raids or farm rare loot with a 1% chance. You only need to save up Trading Post currency.
- Available account-wide — once purchased, the mount unlocks on every character on your account, regardless of faction and class.
- Full ground mount speed — it grants +60% or +100% movement speed depending on your riding skill.
How to obtain
The main and only path to the mount is buying it at the Trading Post for 650 Trader's Tender in the month when the scorpion enters the rotation.
- Wait for the scorpion to return to the monthly Trading Post rotation. The announcement is published on the official site and in Wowhead news at the start of each month.
- Save up at least 650 Trader's Tender. Per character you can earn up to 1,000 tender per month: 500 from the monthly Collector's Cache and 500 for completing the Traveler's Log.
- Visit one of the Trading Post vendors: Tawny in Stormwind, the Zen'shiri Trading Post representatives in Orgrimmar, or the shared post in Dornogal on the Isle of Dorn.
- Open the Trading Post interface, select the mounts tab and buy the
Reins of the Felcrystal Scorpion - Add the mount to your collection through the "Collections — Mounts" window (hotkey Shift+P).
Where to buy and from whom
The Trading Post has three access points in World of Warcraft. You can approach any vendor — the assortment and prices are identical.
| Location | Vendor | Coordinates |
|---|---|---|
| Stormwind | Tawny and Wilder | Near the Mage Quarter |
| Orgrimmar | Zen'shiri Trading Post | Next to Grommash Hold |
| Dornogal | Combined trading point | The square at the city entrance |
Trader's Tender — how to save up
Trader's Tender is the main Trading Post currency. Each month a soft cap of 1,000 tender applies per player, plus the balance from previous months.
Currency sources
- Collector's Cache — 500 tender automatically appear in the cache at the Trading Post vendors on the first day of each month. Claim them once on any character.
- Traveler's Log — another 500 tender are awarded for completing tasks in the "Traveler's Log" (a tab in the adventure guide, hotkey Shift+J).
- Subscription bonus and pre-orders — active subscriptions and expansion purchases grant one-time bonus tender.
- Blizzard monthly rewards — Blizzard sometimes adds extra tender through caches for logging in on patch release day.
Traveler's Log tasks
To earn the maximum of 500 tender you need to accumulate 1,000 activity points. Each task gives from 5 to 75 points and refreshes monthly.
- Open the "Traveler's Log" through the adventure guide.
- Choose tasks that suit your play style: PvE raids, battlegrounds, pet battles, completing world quests, gathering materials.
- The fastest tasks: winning a random battleground (50 points), winning a Group Finder dungeon (75 points), gathering 100 herbs or ores, completing 15 world quests.
- As you complete them, the points bar grows. At 1,000 points the reward automatically lands in your mailbox.
When to expect the return to rotation
The Trading Post refreshes its assortment on the 1st of each month. The same mount usually returns once every 6–12 months, but there is no exact schedule: Blizzard curates the rotation manually and often ties it to seasonal events.
- Subscribe to the Wowhead and Icy Veins news feeds — announcements come out 1–2 days before the start of the month.
- Follow PTR datamining: the new assortment often leaks a week before release.
- The Fel Scorpion appeared in July 2023, February 2024, and February 2025 — a winter–spring window is highly likely.
- If the mount is not in the rotation, save up tender anyway — it carries over between months without loss.
Preparing for the purchase
Checklist before the start of the month
- Make sure you have at least 650 Trader's Tender on one character of your account.
- Check that you have not spent your tender on other items in the current rotation.
- Plan the trip to one of the three cities with vendors.
- Account for the time zone: the Trading Post rotation changes at the start of the month on the server time of your region (for EU — the 1st at 09:00 server time).
If you are short on tender
- Open the Traveler's Log and assess which tasks you have not yet closed in the current month
- Complete quick activities: 1 random battleground, 1 heroic dungeon, 5–10 world quests
- Don't forget to claim the Collector's Cache from the vendor if you haven't already
- In a tight pinch — log onto a character who has not yet opened the cache this month (the cache is tracked per account, not per character, so check beforehand)
Tips
Buy the mount first — Trading Post mounts often sell out on day one, and players leave them "for later", after which the month ends. 650 tender out of the 1,000 available is two-thirds of the monthly budget, so plan your other purchases in advance.
Don't spend tender impulsively — transmog sets return more often than mounts. If the rotation has both a rare mount and a pretty transmog at once, the mount takes priority.
Use currency carryover — unclaimed tender does not expire. Stockpile it 1–2 months before the
Reins of the Felcrystal Scorpion releases, to guarantee the purchase even if you miss the Traveler's Log.
One cache per account — the 500-tender Collector's Cache is granted once a month per account, not per character. Claim it on your main character.
Check the news at the start of the month — the rotation announcement usually comes out on the 28th–30th of the previous month. If the felcrystal scorpion is in the preview — set aside 650 tender right away.
The scorpion is a ground mount — it cannot fly even with the dragonriding skill. Use separate mounts for the air, and keep the scorpion for PvP locations and old zones where the model looks great.
Lore pair — collect both the
Reins of the Amber Scorpion and the felcrystal scorpion together for a thematic "natural — fel-corrupted" pair in your collection.
