Overview

Geosynchronous World Spinner

Geosynchronous World Spinner is a craftable all-purpose mount from the Mists of Pandaria expansion (patch 5.5.0). It is a large gnomish rocket that serves as a ground or flying mount depending on your riding skill. The item's tongue-in-cheek description plays on its very design: the rocket was supposedly built to speed up the planet's rotation and make nights shorter — a goal worthy of insomnia-stricken gnomes.

The mount is crafted by engineers with the Gnomish Engineer specialization, using a schematic learned from an Engineering trainer in Pandaria. You do not need Engineering to use the mount itself — it can be bought on the auction house or commissioned from a Gnomish Engineer friend. Goblin engineers have an equivalent — the Depleted-Kyparium Rocket.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Versatile speed — the mount changes form depending on the situation. On the ground it grants +60% or +100% speed (by riding skill), and in the air up to +310% at maximum flight skill.
  • Unique model — a gnomish rocket with a pulsing core and moving stabilizers. One of the most recognizable mount models of the Mists of Pandaria era.
  • Lasting collectible value — the recipe is limited to a specialization and the material cost is high. On servers this mount consistently stays among the expensive crafted mounts, so having it in your collection stands out.
  • Account-wide — once obtained, the mount unlocks on all your characters with no faction restriction.
  • Low usage requirement — it needs only character level 10 and Apprentice Riding (in patch 9.0.1 the threshold was lowered from level 20 to level 10).

Crafting Materials

The recipe requires both expensive Pandaria materials and a limited reagent sold by a single vendor. The real cost on most servers is between 60,000 and 90,000 gold, with the Orbs of Mystery making up most of the price.

Orb of Mystery 3 Orb of Mystery
Living Steel 12 Living Steel
Trillium Bar 12 Trillium Bar

Where to Get the Orb of Mystery

Orb of Mystery is the most expensive ingredient. It is sold by the vendor Big Keech at the Golden Pagoda in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms for 20,000 gold each. The whole recipe requires spending 60,000 gold on orbs alone.

An alternative is buying orbs on the auction house: engineers and alchemists sometimes list them slightly cheaper than the vendor.

The Remaining Materials

  • Trillium Bar is obtained by smelting Trillium Ore (Pandaria Mining profession) or by transmutation at an alchemist from two bars of Black Trillium and one bar of White Trillium
  • Living Steel is created by a Transmutation-specialized alchemist from Trillium Bars and Spirits of Harmony. The old transmutation cooldown no longer applies, so the material can be stockpiled without delays
  • Spirit of Harmony drops from max-level Pandaria mobs. In the modern game the easiest approach is to farm them in 15–20 minutes anywhere in Pandaria by killing elite or regular mobs
  • Ghost Iron Bolt is crafted by any engineer from Ghost Iron Bars — the material is cheap and sold in bulk on the auction house

Step-by-Step Guide to Obtaining It

  1. Decide which character to craft on. You need a character with the Engineering profession and the Pandaria branch learned. When activating the branch you are asked to choose a specialization — Gnomish Engineer or Goblin Engineer. Only the Gnomish Engineer gets the World Spinner recipe
  2. Switch specialization if needed. If you previously chose the Goblin specialization, open the professions window (the K key), find the specialization icon to the left of the "Goblin Engineer" line and switch. Switching is free, but all recipes from the previous specialization are forgotten
  3. Learn the recipe from the trainer. Approach the Pandaria Engineering trainer and learn the schematic. In the modern game the schematic is available automatically once you reach the required skill and the correct specialization
  4. Gather the materials. The main task is to accumulate 60,000 gold for the orbs. While you save up, gather Spirits of Harmony, bolts, and Living Steel in parallel. Trillium can be bought on the auction house or mined in Pandaria
  5. Buy 3 Orbs of Mystery from Big Keech in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms
  6. Craft the mount. Open your Engineering recipe list, find "Geosynchronous World Spinner" and click "Create". The finished item will be in your bag
  7. Use the mount. Click the item — it is added to your mount collection and becomes available to all characters on the account

Cost Optimization

  • Craft on a single character only. The recipe is not consumable: the mount is added to the collection account-wide, and there is no point in crafting it again
  • Watch orb prices on the auction house. Other players sometimes list them slightly below the vendor's fixed price — this can save up to 5,000–10,000 gold on the whole recipe
  • Alchemists and engineers themselves often sell the finished mount. Check the "Miscellaneous" or "Mounts" section on the auction house — sometimes it is easier to buy a finished Geosynchronous World Spinner than to gather the materials. The mount is not soulbound, so it can be freely resold
  • Transmuting Living Steel is cheaper than buying it. If you know a Transmutation alchemist, ask them to convert trillium into Living Steel. The difference from auction prices is up to 30%
  • Farm Spirits of Harmony in bulk. In one hour in Pandaria you can rack up 15–25 spirits, especially in the Townlong Steppes and the Vale of Eternal Blossoms

Alternative Method — Blingtron

Besides crafting, the Geosynchronous World Spinner has an extremely rare chance to drop from the Blingtron 4000 Gift Package and later gift versions. The chance is extremely low — fractions of a percent — so you should not count on such luck. However, the daily Blingtron gift is free, and nothing stops you from opening it on all characters.

To receive gifts, find a Blingtron in the current Pandaria zone or use your own engineering version of the robot if you have the profession leveled.

Tips

1

Check your specialization before gathering materials. Many players collect the ingredients and only then discover they have the Goblin specialization. Switch first, then spend gold

2

Watch the orb market. Big Keech's price of 20,000 gold is fixed, but the auction house sometimes has good offers from other players. It is worth checking the auction house a few times a week

3

Do not try to farm the mount from Blingtron. The drop chance is extremely small, measured in hundredths of a percent. Crafting through a Gnomish Engineer is the only reliable path

4

The cost is not recoverable. Unlike some crafted mounts, the World Spinner cannot be resold above its cost: the market is limited and the production cost is high. Craft it for the collection, not for profit

5

An alternative without switching specialization. If you have the Goblin specialization and do not want to change it, consider the comparable mount — the ability_mount_rocketmount3Depleted-Kyparium Rocket. It uses the same materials, except the orbs.

6

Speed depends on riding skill. At level 80 in The War Within you already have maximum riding levels, so the mount automatically grants top speed — 310% in flight

7

Keep the recipe usable. If you plan to craft the mount for sale in the future, do not switch to the Goblin specialization — the recipe will be forgotten and you will have to learn it again
