Gift of the Elven Magi — Transmog Set Guide

Gift of the Elven Magi is a one-handed dagger of rare quality, familiar to players from the classic era of World of Warcraft. It was originally a caster's stat stick: the item grants intellect, stamina, and critical strike and haste ratings, so historically it was carried by mages, priests, warlocks, and shamans as a melee-slot weapon.

Today the dagger is interesting first and foremost for its appearance. It has a slender, curved blade with a cold bluish-steel sheen and a tidy hilt — the model is kept in a restrained elven style without bulky ornamentation. The icon reflects this silhouette: a light, short blade that reads well in a character's hands.

The name is a nod to the classic short story "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry — a small literary easter egg, of which there were many in the early game. For transmog collectors it is a recognizable "old-school" item: its calm palette makes it a versatile addition to many cloth and leather sets.

Gift of the Elven Magi drops in the Stratholme dungeon — a plague-ridden city in the Eastern Plaguelands zone. The dagger belongs to the loot of the so-called "living" part of the dungeon, which is held by the Scarlet Crusade.

• The drop source is Balnazzar, a nathrezim demon and the final boss of the "living" wing. The coordinates of the fight room are /way 2017 20.4 81.8.
• The fight begins with an encounter with Grand Crusader Dathrohan: when his health bar drops low enough, the disguise falls away and the crusader transforms into Balnazzar. The loot drops from the demonic form specifically.
• The dagger's drop chance from the boss is around 15%, with no limit on the number of attempts: the dungeon can be re-entered as many times as needed.
• Difficulty does not matter — at the current character level the dungeon is cleared solo with ease, so farming the transmog is convenient on your own.

To reach the "living" wing, head to the northwestern corner of the Eastern Plaguelands: the main entrance to Stratholme lies beyond a long stone bridge. Inside, move through the Scarlet Bastion toward Crusaders' Square — Balnazzar waits beyond the inner halls of the wing.
