Overview

Gnarlroot's Bonecrusher

Game iconGnarlroot's Bonecrusher is an epic two-handed crushing maul added to World of Warcraft in the Dragonflight expansion alongside the raid Amirdrassil, the Dream's Hope (patch 10.2). It is a massive mace made of dark, charred wood, wrapped in roots and smoldering embers — the model directly references Gnarlroot, the first guardian tree on the path into the heart of the Fire of the Dream.

The maul is rendered in a nature-infernal palette: black-and-brown wood veined with searing magma and greenish flickers of Emerald Dream energy. The weapon suits specializations that wield two-handed crushing types: warriors, paladins, as well as shamans and druids as part of their look.

Source

Gnarlroot's Bonecrusher drops from Gnarlroot — the first boss of the raid Amirdrassil, the Dream's Hope. This is the final raid of the Dragonflight expansion, located in the Emerald Dream.

  • Source: the raid's first boss, Gnarlroot.
  • The drop chance according to Wowhead is around 28%, which makes the maul one of the most accessible drops in the raid.
  • The item becomes soulbound on pickup, so it cannot be passed to another character.
  • The drop is available on difficulties from Normal to Mythic; the transmog model is the same across all difficulties.
  • Since the raid belongs to a past expansion, it is easy to clear in a small group or solo at the current level, repeating the run each week until the maul drops.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Harmonizes with sets in a nature-infernal theme: smoldering wood, magma, Emerald Dream foliage.
  • Looks great in druid and shaman appearances that play on the elements of earth and fire.
  • Suits plate sets with greenish and copper accents — for example, for a forest warden or grove keeper look.
  • Contrasts strikingly with bright, holy paladin appearances, creating the image of a "corrupted" weapon.
  • Reinforces dark-green and coal-black color schemes that need a large accent item in hand.

Tips

1

The fastest farming method is a weekly solo run through Amirdrassil on Normal difficulty; Gnarlroot is killed in mere seconds at the current level.

2

The high drop chance (around 28%) means the maul often drops on the first or second attempt, but with bad luck just repeat the run the following week.

3

Gnarlroot is the raid's first boss, so you don't need to clear other rooms to reach it: enter and fight right away.

4

Bring a class with high mobility and strong self-healing to clear the raid solo without risk.

5

Besides the maul, other appearance items also drop from Gnarlroot, so a single run can close out several transmog goals at once.

6

Check the loot on all of your character's specializations: some tokens and items are tied to a role, and this affects the pool of possible drops.

7

If you're collecting appearances on several characters, remember that the maul is soulbound on pickup and is only added to your account-wide appearance collection after you obtain it.
