Battle-Bound Warhound

Battle-Bound Warhound is a rare ground mount added in patch 9.0.1 of the Shadowlands expansion. It is a massive, stitched-together war hound of a dark hue, true to the necromantic aesthetic of Maldraxxus. The mount drops from elite bosses that appear in the open arena of the Theater of Pain in Maldraxxus. The Battle-Bound Warhound belongs to the family of dark hounds — undead stitched together from the parts of various creatures, which makes it one of the grimmest and most memorable mounts in Shadowlands.

In the context of this mount, the Theater of Pain is an open arena on the surface of Maldraxxus, not the dungeon of the same name. Don't get them confused: the dungeon entrance and the open-world arena are next to each other, but the mount only drops from the bosses in the open arena.

How to Get There

Through Oribos: teleport to Oribos (the portal is available in Stormwind and Orgrimmar). From Oribos, take the flight path to the Theater of Pain in Maldraxxus. The arena coordinates are /way 50.4 47.5.

The arena is a round area with bone stands. The bosses appear right in the center of the arena.

Bosses That Drop the Mount

The mount drops from six of the seven champions of the Theater of Pain. The only exception is Sabriel the Bonecleaver, who is summoned separately and does not drop the mount.

Step 1: Preparation

Make sure you have access to Maldraxxus unlocked. If you have never been to Shadowlands, you will need to complete the short introduction in Oribos (or skip it through the NPC at the entrance).

Step 2: Get to the Arena

Fly to the "Theater of Pain" flight point in Maldraxxus. The arena is located at coordinates 50.4, 47.5 — a large round area under the open sky, surrounded by bone stands.

Step 3: Identify the Active Bosses

Four bosses out of six possible are present in the arena at once. The boss rotation changes daily. Fly up to the arena and check which bosses are currently active.

Step 4: Kill the Bosses and Check the Loot

Kill each available boss. At level 90, each fight takes a few seconds. After the kill, check the loot — the Gnawed Reins of the Battle-Bound Warhound mount will be in the loot list if you got lucky.

Step 5: Repeat Daily

According to the community, the guaranteed loot is tied to the first kill of each boss per day. After the first kill, the chance of a repeat drop drops sharply or disappears. Come back every day to maximize the number of attempts.

If the item wasn't picked up: the mount may arrive by in-game mail if your inventory was full at the moment of the kill.

Use Alternate Characters

Farming is tied to a daily lockout per character. The more characters you bring into play, the higher your total chance.

The calculation is based on a ~1% chance from each boss with 4 active bosses per day.
