Gnomeregan Mechanostrider
Overview

Gnomeregan Mechanostrider is an epic-quality ground mount added to World of Warcraft in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (patch 3.1.0). It is a mechanical steed in the signature gnomish style — with a steam engine, metal legs, and an orange-and-yellow color scheme. The model echoes the classic mechanostriders of Gnomeregan, but with an updated design and a unique color scheme.
The mount is purchased for 100 Champion's Seals from Rillie Spindlenut — the Gnomeregan quartermaster at the Argent Tournament grounds in Icecrown. It is available only to characters of the Alliance faction.
Why You Want This Mount
- Unique color scheme — the orange-and-yellow mechanostrider stands out among the standard models available from vendors in the racial capitals. It pairs perfectly with gnomish heritage armor.
- Collectible value — one of five Alliance racial mounts at the Argent Tournament. While you save up Champion's Seals for this mount, you simultaneously make progress toward purchasing the other four: the
Stormwind Steed,
Ironforge Ram,
Exodar Elekk, and
Darnassian Nightsaber. - Account-wide — once obtained, the mount unlocks for all characters on your account within the Alliance faction.
- Extra rewards along the way — the Argent Tournament progression yields pets, titles, transmog gear, tabards, and achievements, so you gain far more than just a single mount.
How to Obtain
To purchase the Gnomeregan Mechanostrider, you must become a Champion of Gnomeregan at the Argent Tournament. This is a multi-stage process with daily quests.
- Travel to Icecrown (Northrend). The Argent Tournament grounds are located in the northeast of the zone. If you have not been there before, speak with Jean-Pierre Poulain by the flight master in Dalaran — he will offer a free flight to the grounds
- Find the Alliance pavilion on the eastern side of the grounds and speak with Magister Taelis to register as a tournament participant
- Complete the Aspirant stage: do the tournament's daily quests to collect 15 Aspirant's Seals. At 5 seals per day, this takes 3 days
- Complete the Valiant stage: do the Gnomeregan Valiant's quests and collect 25 Valiant's Seals. At 5 seals per day, this takes 5 days. If your character is not a gnome, first complete the Valiant stage for your own race, then take on the Gnomeregan quest chain
- Complete the quest The Valiant's Challenge — a mounted duel against a Champion NPC. After your victory, you earn the title Champion of Gnomeregan and the achievement Champion of Gnomeregan
- As a Champion, you gain access to Champion daily quests, each of which rewards Champion's Seals. Accumulate 100 seals
- Buy the
Gnomeregan Mechanostrider from Rillie Spindlenut at the Alliance pavilion for 100 Champion's Seals
Argent Tournament Progression
The path to the title of Champion is divided into three stages. At each stage you complete daily quests and accumulate special seals.
| Stage | Currency | Required | Days (minimum) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aspirant | Aspirant's Seal | 15 seals | 3 days |
| Valiant | Valiant's Seal | 25 seals | 5 days |
| Champion | Champion's Seal | 100 seals for the mount | ~14–20 days |
In total, from your first visit to the tournament until you purchase the mount, roughly 22–28 days of regular daily-quest completion will pass. The timeline depends on the number of Champion quests you have unlocked: the more cities you represent as a Champion, the more daily quests are available at once.
How to Earn Champion's Seals Faster
Once you earn the title of Champion, daily quests open up to you, each granting one Champion's Seal. Here is how to speed up your accumulation.
- Become the Champion of multiple cities — for each additional city, you gain access to extra Valiant daily quests, each of which also grants seals. The maximum is being Champion of all five Alliance capitals
- Complete all available daily quests — at the Champion stage, three types of quests are available: mounted combat, battlefield assignments, and group tasks. Each type grants seals
- Take on the Black Knight's challenge — after completing the Black Knight's story chain, an additional daily quest with a seal reward opens up
- Heroic dungeon "Trial of the Champion" — the dungeon on the tournament grounds rewards extra seals on your first completion each day
Other Argent Tournament Mounts
While you save up seals for the Gnomeregan Mechanostrider, it makes sense to plan the purchase of the other tournament mounts. All racial mounts cost 100 seals each.
| Mount | Item | Vendor | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| 45125 | Stormwind Quartermaster | 100 seals | |
| 45586 | Ironforge Quartermaster | 100 seals | |
| 45589 | Rillie Spindlenut | 100 seals | |
| 45590 | Exodar Quartermaster | 100 seals | |
| 45591 | Darnassus Quartermaster | 100 seals |
Besides the racial mounts, you can purchase upgraded (swift) versions for a higher cost, as well as the
Argent Hippogryph — a flying mount for 150 Champion's Seals.
How to Get to the Argent Tournament
The Argent Tournament grounds are located in Icecrown — a zone on the continent of Northrend.
- Use the portal to Dalaran (Northrend) from any capital. In Stormwind, the portal is located in the Mage Tower
- In Dalaran, take a taxi to the Argent Tournament grounds from any flight master. On your first visit, Jean-Pierre Poulain will offer a free flight
- Alternatively, fly there yourself on a flying mount from Dalaran to the northeast of Icecrown
The tournament grounds have a flight master, a tavern, and a repairman — everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Tips
Start the progression on several alts — Champion's Seals do not transfer between characters, but each Champion character purchases the mount for the entire account. If you want to collect all five racial mounts, the fastest way is to do it on a single character by becoming Champion of all five capitals.
At max level (80 in The War Within) the tournament quests are completed in a few minutes — all enemies are long outdated in power, so the mounted combat and field assignments pose no difficulty.
Combine the farm with achievements — the tournament progression counts toward a meta-achievement that grants the title "Crusader." This title unlocks access to additional daily quests and a unique tabard.
Don't forget the "Trial of the Champion" dungeon — it is located right on the tournament grounds and grants extra Champion's Seals on each daily completion.
Plan your purchases ahead — if you want to collect all the tournament mounts, count up the total number of seals and set your priorities. The five racial mounts will cost 500 seals; the swift versions cost even more.
