Gnoll Fiend Flail — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Gnoll Fiend Flail is a one-handed flail of rare (blue) quality added in the Dragonflight expansion. The model is a crude gnoll bludgeoning weapon: a short haft with a massive striking head suspended on a chain and assembled from bones and teeth. The silhouette comes across as "wild" and beastly, with no magical glow, so the flail fits tribal, brigand, and beast-like looks perfectly.
The flail belongs to the one-handed bludgeoning weapon type, meaning it can be used by classes that wield maces and flails. For transmogrification the stats and item level do not matter — all that counts is the unlocked appearance.
Source
The Gnoll Fiend Flail is not a boss drop but a hidden treasure in The Azure Span zone of the Dragonflight expansion. Its quirk is that the treasure object is not visible on the map or in the world until you complete a prerequisite.
- The treasure is hidden inside a hut in the Frosted Frontier area in the north of The Azure Span.
- The object only becomes visible after you find the item
Letter of Caution — it marks the treasure's location on the map of The Azure Span. - Without this letter, the hut and the flail remain inaccessible, so you need to obtain the letter first.
- This is a one-time treasure: it opens once per character and requires no combat.
The flail counts toward the Treasures of The Azure Span achievement, so it is convenient to grab alongside the zone's other caches while hunting for the achievement.
Who It Suits Visually
- It harmonizes with leather and mail sets in a brown-and-bone palette — tribal and brigand looks.
- It works for "beastly" and "savage" concepts thanks to the bone striking head.
- It contrasts with formal plate sets of a noble theme — a divisive but striking combination.
- It looks great paired with a shield or a second bludgeoning weapon of the same crude aesthetic.
Tips
First track down the Letter of Caution — without it the treasure will not appear in the world, and a trip to the hut would be wasted.
Once you have the letter, open the map of The Azure Span: the marker will point out the exact spot of the hut in the Frosted Frontier.
Pick up the flail along the way while completing the Treasures of The Azure Span achievement — that way you clear several of the zone's caches at once.
There is no fight for the treasure, so it suits characters of any level who can reach The Azure Span.
The appearance is saved to your account-wide collection — you only need to open the chest once.
If you have already played through the Dragonflight story, you can reach the north of the zone via the nearest flight points without a long trek.
