Golden Gryphon

Golden Gryphon is a flying mount of the Alliance faction, added in patch 2.0.3 of The Burning Crusade expansion. It is a classic gryphon with golden plumage and one of the first flying mounts in the game. The mount is purchased from several vendors in Stormwind, Outland, Northrend, and Dalaran for 50 gold, and is also granted as a reward for quests for new Alliance characters.

The Golden Gryphon is both a ground and flying mount, and its speed depends on your riding skill. On the ground it moves at +60% or +100%, while in the air it reaches +150%, +280%, or +310% depending on your skill level.

• Guaranteed acquisition — the mount is bought from a vendor or granted by a quest. No grinding and no random drops
• Low cost — only 50 gold, which is affordable even in the early stages of the game. Reputation discounts with the vendor's faction lower the price even further
• Available on all characters — once learned, the mount becomes available to all Alliance characters on your account
• Iconic look — a classic gryphon with golden plumage, familiar to every Alliance player from flight points
• Ground and flying — works both on the ground and in the air. Its speed scales with your riding skill

The Golden Gryphon can be obtained in two ways: purchased from a vendor or earned as a quest reward.

Method 1: Purchase from a Vendor

1. Make sure your character has learned the "Apprentice Riding" skill — this is enough for ground use. Flying requires "Journeyman Riding"
2. Prepare 50 gold (the amount may be lower with a reputation discount)
3. Head to one of the vendors listed in the table below
4. Buy the Golden Gryphon and use the item to learn the mount

Method 2: Quest Reward

New Alliance characters who complete the tutorial on Exile's Reach receive the Golden Gryphon as a reward for the quest Finding Your Way (level 7, Stormwind). The quest offers a choice between two mounts: the Golden Gryphon or the Reins of the Black War Steed.

The mount is also granted for the quest What's Your Specialty? (level 7, Dragon Isles) — a task added in patch 11.1.7, where you choose your combat specialization.

The Golden Gryphon is sold by five vendors in different locations. Choose the one closest to your current position.

Stormwind — the Most Convenient Option

Tannec Stonebeak is located at the Gryphon Roost — a platform near the inner gates of Stormwind, in the Trade District. He stands not far from flight master Dungar Longdrink. The easiest way to get there is via your hearthstone if it is set to Stormwind, or through a portal from your faction's capital.

Dalaran — an Alternative Option

Mei Francis is a vendor of exotic mounts in Dalaran. She sells not only gryphons but also many other mounts. Dalaran is convenient because you can reach it through a portal from the capital.

Outland and Northrend

Three vendors are located in Alliance areas in Outland and Northrend. They are a good choice if you are already in these zones:

• Grunda Bronzewing at Honor Hold on the Hellfire Peninsula
• Durgan Thunderbeak at Valiance Keep in the Borean Tundra

A riding skill is required to use the Golden Gryphon. Below are the skill ranks and their effect on the mount.

With the minimum "Apprentice Riding" skill you can use the Golden Gryphon as a ground mount. Flying requires the "Expert" rank or higher.
