Get Great Brown Dragon Turtle mount

Great Brown Dragon Turtle is an epic pandaren ground mount that takes the form of a large brown dragon turtle. The mount was added in the Mists of Pandaria expansion (patch 5.0.4) and has since remained one of the most recognizable symbols of pandaren culture in the game.

The mount is sold for ordinary gold by two vendors in the capitals — Old Whitenose in Stormwind and Turtlemaster Odai in Orgrimmar. Any pandaren character can buy it right away, regardless of faction and reputation. Members of other races will need to be Exalted with the Tushui Pandaren (Alliance) or the Huojin Pandaren (Horde).

To buy the mount you need to meet a few conditions:

• Character level: at least 10 (a formal requirement these days)
• Riding skill: Apprentice Riding — the basic skill is enough
• Race or reputation — one of two:
  • Play a pandaren race (any faction)
  • Reach Exalted with the Tushui faction — for the Alliance
  • Reach Exalted with the Huojin faction — for the Horde
• Gold: 10 gold

Reputation with the pandaren factions is earned through daily quests in the capitals, completing Pandaria story quests, and wearing the matching tabard in dungeons.

The mount is sold by two vendors — one in each of the main factions' capitals. Please note: the Alliance and the Horde have access only to their own vendor, but with the appropriate reputation their wares are identical.

Alliance — Stormwind

Vendor: Old Whitenose. Located in the pandaren camp by the Eastern Earthshrine, in the northern part of Stormwind, near the Mage Quarter and the Canals.

Horde — Orgrimmar

Vendor: Turtlemaster Odai. Found in the pandaren camp in the center of Orgrimmar's Valley of Honor, near the pond and the training area.

1. Check your reputation. Open the reputation tab (default key — "U") and find the pandaren faction of your side: Tushui (Alliance) or Huojin (Horde). You need Exalted. If you play a pandaren, this step is skipped.
2. Gather 10 gold. The amount is symbolic for any character above level 20.
3. Find the vendor using the coordinates above and open the trade window with a right click.
4. Buy the Reins of the Great Brown Dragon Turtle for 10 gold.
5. Use the item — it will add the mount to your collection (opened with the "C" key, the "Mounts" tab).

If you are not a pandaren, Exalted with the Tushui or Huojin is the only path. Fast ways to build it up:

• Daily quests at the pandaren camp in your capital — these give steady reputation
• Pandaria story campaign — on the way from level 10 to 90, your character regularly earns reputation with the pandaren factions
• Pandaren faction tabard — equip it and it grants reputation for clearing any dungeons
• Reputation scrolls from the Trading Post and holiday events give a boost of up to +50%

The path from neutral to Exalted usually takes 2–4 weeks if you complete daily quests every day.

The same NPCs sell the entire line of pandaren dragon turtles. Once you reach Exalted, it makes sense to buy the colors you like right away.

In addition to the "great" turtles, the same vendors also sell simpler variants (of ordinary size) — they are cheaper and also belong to the overall pool of collectible mounts.

• Create a pandaren alt. If you don't want to farm reputation, create a pandaren character — they get all the variants in the shop without any reputation conditions, and the mounts from the collection automatically become available to all your characters (the collection is account-wide).
• Combine dailies with leveling. If you are leveling an alt at the same time through Chromie Time — Pandaria story quests will speed up reputation gain with no extra effort.
• The mount is ground-only. The turtle cannot fly and is not a water mount (despite its appearance). It is an ordinary ground mount with +60% or +100% speed depending on your riding skill.
• Check your collection before buying. Sometimes players forget that they already have the mount. Open "C" → "Mounts" and search for the word "turtle".
• Plan your trip ahead. If you are already heading to Orgrimmar or Stormwind on other business — drop by the vendor and buy several variants at once.
