Get Great Golden Kodo mount
Overview

Great Golden Kodo is an epic ground mount added to World of Warcraft in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion (patch 3.1.2). It is a massive kodo with a golden-brown coloring — one of the majestic beasts roaming the Southern Barrens of Kalimdor.
The mount is purchased from a vendor in the Argent Tournament Grounds in Icecrown for 5 Champion's Seals and 400 gold. To buy it, you must be a Tauren or hold the Champion of Thunder Bluff achievement. The mount is available to Horde characters only.
Why You Want This Mount
- Collection value — one of the eight Horde racial mounts available through the Argent Tournament. The Great Golden Kodo represents the Thunder Bluff faction and is visually distinct from the standard kodos sold by regular Tauren vendors
- Low cost — only 5 Champion's Seals and 400 gold. The seals can be earned in a single day once you reach Champion rank, making this one of the fastest acquisitions at the tournament
- Unique model — the golden-brown coloring sets this kodo apart from the rest. Kodos overall remain among the most recognizable Horde mounts
- Account-wide access — once obtained, the mount is unlocked for all Horde characters on your account
How to Reach the Argent Tournament
The Argent Tournament is located in the northeast of Icecrown in Northrend.
- Travel to Dalaran (Northrend). The portal to old Dalaran is available through the portal room
- In Dalaran, use the flight master — take a flight point to the Argent Tournament camp
- You can also fly there on your own mount — the camp is in the northeastern part of Icecrown
How to Obtain
Obtaining the mount is split into two stages: reaching the rank of Champion of Thunder Bluff and purchasing it with seals.
Stage 1: Argent Tournament Progression
The Argent Tournament is a permanent playground with a system of daily quests and ranks. Progression goes through three ranks:
Rank | What You Need | How Long It Takes |
|---|---|---|
| Aspirant | Begin the quest chain at the Argent Tournament | 1 day |
| Valiant | Collect 15 Aspirant's Tokens through daily quests | 3 days |
| Champion | Collect 25 Valiant's Seals through Thunder Bluff daily quests and win the trial | 5 days |
Total duration from start to the rank of Champion is at least 9 days of completing daily quests.
- Arrive at the Argent Tournament and speak with the NPC in the Sunreavers' pavilion (the Horde camp). You will be offered the chance to become an Aspirant
- Complete the three Aspirant daily quests, each of which grants Aspirant's Tokens. Over three days you will collect 15 tokens
- Turn in 15 tokens and complete the trial — you will earn the rank of Valiant
- If your character is a Tauren, you will automatically begin doing quests for Thunder Bluff. If not, first become the Champion of your own race, then choose the Thunder Bluff faction
- Complete the four Valiant daily quests for Thunder Bluff. After 5 days you will collect 25 Valiant's Seals
- Turn in the seals and win the trial — you will earn the Champion of Thunder Bluff achievement
Stage 2: Purchasing the Mount
After reaching Champion rank, the Champion daily quests open up, each of which rewards Champion's Seals. At Champion rank you can earn between 6 and 11 seals per day.
- Complete the Champion daily quests — 5 seals can be collected in a single day
- Find Doru Thunderhorn in the Sunreavers' pavilion at the Argent Tournament
- Buy the
Great Golden Kodo for 5 Champion's Seals and 400 gold - Use the item — the mount will appear in your collection
Optimizing Seal Farming
Daily Seal Income
The number of seals per day depends on your progress at the tournament:
Rank | Seals per Day |
|---|---|
| Champion (single faction) | 6–11 |
| Crusader (all Horde factions) | 9–17 |
For maximum seal income, become a Crusader — this requires earning the Champion rank of all five Horde racial factions and being Exalted with each of them.
Sources of Seals
- Champion daily quests — the main source, 5–8 seals per day
- Heroic Trial of the Champion — the dungeon within the tournament grounds, whose bosses grant additional seals
- Crusader quests — unlocked after earning the title, granting another 3–5 seals per day
Farming on Alts
The Great Golden Kodo only requires 5 seals, so farming on alts is not worthwhile — you will earn the needed amount in a single day on your main character. Alts are useful if you plan to collect all of the tournament's mounts.
Tips
Start with your own race's championship — if your character is not a Tauren, you will first have to complete the chain for your own race and then choose the Thunder Bluff faction. This adds another 5 days to the progression
Combine with other purchases — the Argent Tournament sells pets, toys, tabards and transmog gear for seals. Plan your purchases ahead while you work through the quest chain
Don't forget the dungeon — Trial of the Champion on Heroic difficulty grants additional seals and clears instantly at max level
Build up reputation — if your character is not Exalted with Thunder Bluff, put on the Tauren tabard and grind reputation in any dungeons. This will speed up earning the Crusader title
At level 90 everything clears instantly — in Midnight, the Argent Tournament quests and the dungeon pose no challenge. The only limit is the daily quest reset, which cannot be bypassed
