Overview

Great Purple Elekk

The Game iconGreat Purple Elekk is an epic Alliance draenei ground mount added to World of Warcraft all the way back in the The Burning Crusade expansion (patch 2.0.1). It is one of three "great" elekk colors — a larger model with a distinctive gray-purple hide and an embroidered saddle. Unlike the ordinary Brown, Gray and Purple elekks, the epic "great" variants look more massive and travel at full ground-mount speed.

The mount is sold by elekk breeder Torallius the Pack Handler in the Exodar. Any draenei can buy it immediately after learning the riding skill. Players of other Alliance races can only purchase the elekk at Exalted reputation with the Exodar faction.

Why you want this mount

  • Expanding your mount collection — once you use the item, the mount is permanently bound to your account and counts toward the overall ride-animal tally for achievements
  • Part of the complete elekk lineup — together with the Game iconGreat Blue Elekk and the Game iconGreat Green Elekk it forms the trio of epic colors from a single vendor. Add the ordinary Game iconBrown, Game iconGray and Game iconPurple elekks to them, and a single visit to Torallius nets your collection six entries at once
  • A unique model among standard mounts — elekks are rarely seen in the field as it is, and the great purple color stands out especially against the usual sea of Alliance horses, wolves and rams
  • A cheap pick for a draenei — a draenei character buys the mount for literally 10 gold with no prerequisites beyond the basic riding skill. For Alliance alts it is one of the fastest ways to add a new epic mount to the collection

How to get the mount

The main and only method is to buy the Game iconGreat Purple Elekk from the vendor in the Exodar. The path is short: a draenei manages it in a couple of minutes, while other races need to max out their Exodar reputation to Exalted in advance.

  1. Get to the Exodar — the draenei capital on Azuremyst Isle. The fastest route is through the portal from Stormwind in the mage tower of the Mage Quarter
  2. Go inside the ship and climb to the outer ring around the Vault of Lights. By the pens with live elekks to the north of the central hall stands Torallius the Pack Handler, labeled "Elekk Breeder"
  3. Make sure you have learned the Game iconApprentice Riding skill. Since patch 9.0.1 this is the only requirement — neither Journeyman riding nor level 40 are needed anymore
  4. If your character is not a draenei, check your reputation with the Exodar faction. You need Exalted status. Without it Torallius will refuse to sell the "great" elekks
  5. Open the trade window with Torallius and buy the Game iconGreat Purple Elekk for 10 gold
  6. Use the item from your bag — it teaches the spell Game iconGreat Purple Elekk, and the mount will appear in your collection forever

Where to find Torallius the Pack Handler

The Exodar is built around the central hall of the Vault of Lights, from which sectors with vendors, trainers and professions radiate outward. Torallius does not stand in the trade quarter, but a bit farther away — by the pens with live elekks to the north, closer to the city's outer ring.

The fastest route to the Exodar for a character who has Stormwind unlocked:

  1. Teleport to Stormwind
  2. Head to the Mage Quarter and enter the mage tower
  3. Use the portal to the Exodar
  4. From the arrival platform, walk along the ring to the north — Torallius stands by the elekk pens among the live animals. If there are no elekks near the vendor, you've come to the wrong NPC

If there is no direct portal, you can reach the Exodar by sea: from Stormwind Harbor board the ship to Valaar's Berth on Azuremyst Isle, then fly by gryphon to the Exodar.

How to reach Exalted with the Exodar

If you don't play a draenei, Torallius won't sell you the mount without Exalted status with the Exodar faction. Reputation builds slowly, but without any time restrictions — you can max it out over one or two evenings at max level.

Main ways to gain reputation:

  • Exodar Tabard. Buy the Game iconExodar Tabard from quartermaster Kadu right there in the Exodar. Wear it and run classic Wrath of the Lich King dungeons — all reputation from kills inside the dungeon will go toward the Exodar. This is the fastest way to close out the missing reputation levels
  • Tournament daily quests — at the Argent Tournament Grounds in Icecrown, competing on behalf of the draenei, you receive daily tasks that give a noticeable boost to Exodar reputation.
  • Draenei starting-zone quests — Azuremyst Isle and the neighboring Bloodmyst Isle contain dozens of quests granting Exodar reputation. This is relevant if you have an alt running the starting chain

If you ever farmed reputation on a draenei alt or completed quests in the starting zones, some progress may already be banked. Before heading out, open the reputation tab and check how much is left to Exalted — a couple of tabard dungeons might be enough.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Reputation is the main bottleneck — if you don't play a draenei and have never touched the Exodar, you'll spend most of the mount-gathering time on reputation. The optimal tactic is to wear the Game iconExodar Tabard and run a dozen classic Wrath of the Lich King dungeons
  • Roll a draenei alt for at least one evening — completing the intro quests on Azuremyst Isle and Bloodmyst Isle gives a substantial chunk of reputation, and the draenei itself gets access to the elekks without restrictions
  • Grab all six colors at once — when you've reached Exalted, immediately buy both the ordinary and the "great" elekks. Coming back a second time is a chore, and your mount collection gains six entries in one go
  • Don't confuse Torallius with Kadu — quartermaster Kadu sells tabards and reputation rewards, but no mounts. Only Torallius in the pens to the north of the central hall sells the elekks
  • Check your collection before buying — if you ever already grabbed the Great Purple Elekk on an old character, the mount is already in your shared collection. You'll waste 10 gold on a duplicate
  • There is no alternative for non-draenei — no additional sources of the Great Purple Elekk exist in the game. It's either a purchase on a draenei, or Exalted with the Exodar on any other Alliance character
