Green Riding Nether Ray
Overview

Green Riding Nether Ray is an epic flying mount added in patch 2.1.0 of The Burning Crusade expansion. It is one of five riding nether rays that can be purchased from Grella, the quartermaster of the Sha'tari Skyguard, in Skettis in the southeast of Terokkar Forest (Outland). The purchase requires Exalted reputation with the Sha'tari Skyguard faction. The mount costs 200 gold.
The nether ray is a unique creature native to Outland. The green coloration stands out among the other four variants (blue, red, silver and purple) with its rich emerald hue. The riding nether ray model is not used for any other mount in the game, which makes them truly exclusive.
Why You Want This Mount
- Guaranteed acquisition — the mount is bought from a vendor rather than dropping at a certain chance. Once you reach the required reputation, you will obtain it for sure
- Unique model — riding nether rays have a one-of-a-kind appearance. No other mount in the game uses this model
- Affordable price — 200 gold (or 160 gold with the Exalted discount) is a small sum by the standards of the current expansion
- Collectible value — there are five nether ray colorations in total. The green variant is a great addition to a mount collection
- Available to all characters — once purchased, the mount becomes available on every character of your account
- Flying mount — the nether ray works both on the ground and in the air
How to Obtain
To purchase the mount you must meet two conditions: reach Exalted reputation with the Sha'tari Skyguard faction and have 200 gold.
- Head to Shattrath (Outland) and find Yuula near the flight master (coordinates 64, 42). Take the starting quest "Skyguard Assault" — you need to kill 20 Gordunni ogres in the Barrier Hills
- After completing the first quest, take the next one — "To Skettis!". It will lead you to Skettis, located in the southeast of Terokkar Forest. A flying mount is required to access Skettis
- Grind reputation with the Sha'tari Skyguard to Exalted (42,000 points in total from Neutral to Exalted)
- Find Grella, the quartermaster of the Sha'tari Skyguard, in Skettis (coordinates 64.2, 66.2 in Terokkar Forest)
- Buy the
Green Riding Nether Ray for 200 gold and use the item to learn the mount
Grinding Sha'tari Skyguard Reputation
To reach Exalted you need to earn 42,000 reputation points. Reputation starts at Neutral. The main sources are listed below.
Daily Quests (the main source)
The following daily quests are available in Skettis:
- "Fires Over Skettis" — bombing nests from a gryphon, +150 reputation points
- "Escape from Skettis" — escorting an NPC to safety, +150 reputation points
Additional daily quests are available at the Skyguard Outpost (Blade's Edge Mountains):
- "Bombing Run" — bombing a camp, +350 reputation points
- "No Fly Zone" — capturing nether rays, +350 reputation points
In total, the daily quests give about 1,000 reputation points per day.
Repeatable Quests
- "Shadow Dust" and "More Shadow Dust" — collect 6 pieces of shadow dust from slain arakkoa and turn them in. The quest is repeatable and grants +150 reputation points per turn-in. Shadow dust is your main tool for fast reputation gain
Killing Mobs in Skettis
Mobs in Skettis grant reputation all the way up to Exalted:
- Regular arakkoa — 10 reputation points each
- Elite mini-bosses (Darkscreecher Akkarai, Karrog and others) — 100 reputation points each
- Terokk — the final boss of Skettis, 500 reputation points
Time-Lost Scroll — the key to fast grinding
After turning in the "Shadow Dust" quest you receive an Elixir of Shadows. Under its effect (20 minutes), additional mobs become visible in Skettis — phantom ravenstalkers. This significantly increases the number of mobs available to kill and speeds up shadow dust farming. Keep refreshing the elixir's effect by turning in shadow dust.
Summoning Mini-Bosses
Phantom ravenstalkers (visible under the Elixir of Shadows effect) have a chance to drop Time-Lost Scrolls. After collecting 10 scrolls, you can summon one of four elite mini-bosses at special altars in Skettis. Each mini-boss grants 100 reputation points and can drop talons/beaks that can be turned in for an additional 350 reputation points.
Summoning Terokk
After collecting all four items from the mini-bosses (one from each), you can summon Terokk at the central altar. Terokk grants 500 reputation points when killed.
Farm Optimization
Daily Plan
At max level, all mobs and quests in Skettis are completed instantly. The optimal order of actions:
- Complete all four daily quests — two in Skettis, two at the Skyguard Outpost in Blade's Edge
- Mass-kill arakkoa in Skettis, collecting shadow dust
- Regularly turn in 6 pieces of shadow dust and refresh the Elixir of Shadows
- Under the elixir's effect, kill phantom ravenstalkers and collect Time-Lost Scrolls
- Summon mini-bosses at the altars, turn in their talons/beaks
- Once you have all four items — summon and kill Terokk
How Long It Takes
With active farming using mobs, repeatable quests and mini-bosses, reaching Exalted is possible in one to two days of intensive play. If you stick to daily quests only, the process will take about 5–6 weeks.
Experienced players report that with a strong AoE character you can reach Exalted in roughly 3–4 hours of continuous farming, killing all the mobs in Skettis, turning in shadow dust and summoning mini-bosses.
Tips
1
Start with the quest chain — don't skip the introductory quests from Yuula in Shattrath. They give a one-time reputation bonus and unlock access to the daily quests
2
Farm shadow dust — the repeatable quest "More Shadow Dust" has no limit on the number of turn-ins. This is your main tool for reputation gain besides the daily quests
3
Use the Elixir of Shadows constantly — under its effect the number of available mobs in Skettis roughly triples. Don't forget to refresh it every 20 minutes
4
Don't ignore the outpost in Blade's Edge — two additional daily quests (+700 reputation in total) are located far from Skettis, but they are worth doing
5
Buy all five colorations — since you have already reached Exalted, purchase all five rays. The total cost is just 1,000 gold (or 800 with the Exalted discount)
6
Skyguard Tabard — after reaching Exalted you can also buy the Skyguard Tabard from Grella — a nice bonus for your collection
7
The mount is account-wide — grind reputation on whichever character is most convenient for you. Once purchased, the mount becomes available to all your characters
