Grinning Reaver
Overview

Grinning Reaver is an epic ground and flying mount added in patch 6.0.1 of the Warlords of Draenor expansion. It is a large insect-like creature from the reaver family, whose model is based on the uncorrupted reavers of Outland. The mount stands out with its aggressive appearance, a distinctive "grin," and a compact size, which makes it convenient for getting around in crowded areas.
The Grinning Reaver was originally sold in the Blizzard in-game shop for real money. In January 2019, the mount was removed from the shop and placed in the Blizzard archive. Since then, it has periodically returned as part of promotions with partners.
How to Get the Grinning Reaver
At the moment, the Grinning Reaver is not available for direct purchase in the Blizzard in-game shop. Listed below are all the ways the mount has been available before and may become available again in the future.

SteelSeries Promotion
In 2024, Blizzard teamed up with SteelSeries to run a promotion: when buying a SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7 or Arctis Nova 9 gaming headset, buyers received a code to redeem the Grinning Reaver. The headset celebrated the World of Warcraft anniversary and cost $199 (USD).
If you purchased the headset, the code to activate the mount was sent to your email. To use it, you had to go to the Battle.net code redemption page and enter the key you received.
Secondary Market
Grinning Reaver activation codes from the SteelSeries promotion occasionally show up on various marketplaces. Be careful: buying codes from unofficial sellers carries a risk of fraud. Blizzard is not responsible for transactions made outside official channels.
Possible Return
Blizzard periodically brings back previously retired mounts in various ways:
- Through the Trading Post for Trader's Tender
- As part of new promotions with partners
- Through live streams (for example, Twitch Drops)
- As part of bundles in the in-game shop
Keep an eye on Blizzard news and partner promotion announcements — the mount may reappear at any moment.
Appearance and Features
The Grinning Reaver is designed in the style of creatures from the reaver family — multi-legged, insect-like predators that inhabit Outland and Draenor. Its model is an uncorrupted version of these creatures, with a bright coloration and a menacing maw.
Distinctive Traits
- Compact model — the mount takes up little space, which is especially handy in capitals and dungeons where large mounts block the view
- Quiet sounds — unlike many flying mounts, the Grinning Reaver makes soft sounds when moving on the ground and a barely audible rustle of wings in flight
- Special animation — when using the
/mountspecialcommand, the mount's abdomen begins to glow, creating a striking flash - Four variations — there are several visual variants of the reaver model, but only the main version is available as a mount
Tips
Keep an eye on promotions. The Grinning Reaver is a limited-availability mount. Subscribe to Blizzard news and check the partner promotions section on the official site so you don't miss its return.
Check the Trading Post monthly. Blizzard gradually moves previously retired mounts to the Trading Post. The Grinning Reaver may show up there in the future for Trader's Tender.
Stockpile Trader's Tender in advance. Mounts in the Trading Post usually cost between 650 and 900 Tender. If you want to be ready for the mount to appear, try to keep a reserve of at least 900 Tender.
Beware of scammers. If you are considering buying an activation code on the secondary market, use only trusted marketplaces with a money-back guarantee. Never hand money directly to unknown sellers.
The mount is account-bound. Once activated, the Grinning Reaver becomes available on all current and future characters of your account — there is no need to purchase it again.
Use /mountspecial. The Grinning Reaver has a unique glowing animation that sets it apart from other mounts. Try this command to show off the mount in all its glory.
