Grotto Netherwing Drake — How to Get the Mount

Grotto Netherwing Drake is a flying mount with full dragonriding support and appearance customization. The drake model is based on the classic Netherwing drakes from The Burning Crusade, but features updated graphics and modern dragonriding mechanics. The mount can be obtained for free by completing a short side quest chain in the Emerald Dream.

The Grotto Netherwing Drake is appealing for several reasons:

How to Reach the Emerald Dream

There are two main ways to get to the Emerald Dream:

1. Via the portal in Valdrakken — the portal is located above the bank. Available after completing the introductory quest chain on at least one character on the account
2. Via the gates in the Ohn'ahran Plains — the main gates are at the Ancient Horn on the island off the coast of the Ohn'ahran Plains

The mount is awarded upon completing the final quest in the chain. The story follows Wrathion and Vyranoth as they recruit two minor dragon flights — the Netherwing and the Thorignir — to join the main flights on the Dragon Isles.

The entire chain takes 30–50 minutes and does not require a group.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Step 1. Find Wrathion at the Central Encampment in the Emerald Dream.

Step 2. Pick up the quest A Dragon in Hand is Worth Two in the Roost. Wrathion tells you about his plans to recruit the Netherwing drakes from Outland.

Step 3. Complete the quest Draconic Diplomacy — head to Outland to find the Netherwing drakes.

Step 4. A Dragon's Eye View — survey the grotto where the whelps live.

Step 5. Cavern Cleaning — help clear out the grotto for the drakes.

Step 6. A Whelping Hand — take care of the young drakes.

Step 7. Delectable Delicacies — gather food for the whelps.

Step 8. Home in Time for Tea — return with the results.

Step 9. The Thorignir — travel with Vyranoth to the storm drakes in the Halls of Valor.

Step 10. Dragon Keeping — final quest. Speak to Vyranoth and complete the Halls of Valor scenario. Upon completion you receive the mount.

Chain Rewards

In July 2023, the Grotto Netherwing Drake was available as a Trading Post reward for filling the Traveler's Log (1,400 points per month). This method was temporary and is currently unavailable. If you missed the mount then, the only way is to complete the quest chain described above.

One of the main features of this mount is its rich customization options. To change the drake's appearance, use a Rostrum of Transformation in any Dragon Isles zone.

Manuscripts are special items that unlock new appearance options. Sources:

• Budding Dreamtroves — containers obtained from planting seeds in the Emerald Dream
• Blue Superbloom chests — rewards for participating in the Superbloom event at Blue quality and above
• Rare creatures of the Emerald Dream — random drops from elite mobs in the zone
• Professions — some manuscripts are crafted via Inscription
• Reputation — some manuscripts are sold by vendors for Guardians of the Dream reputation
