Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.

The
Flying Machine is a flying mount crafted with the Engineering profession. The mount was introduced in patch 2.3 of The Burning Crusade expansion and is a classic gnomish gyrocopter with ski landing gear, side engines, and a top rotor. There is also an upgraded version — the
Turbo-Charged Flying Machine — which requires a higher Engineering skill to build. Both mounts bind on use, so they can be sold at the auction house or handed to other players.
To craft the Flying Machine you need:
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Profession | Engineering |
| Skill | Outland Engineering (1) |
| Recipe | Learned from an Engineering trainer |
To use the Flying Machine you need:
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Character level | 10 |
| Riding | Apprentice (ground), Expert (for flight) |
| Profession | Outland Engineering (1) |
| Material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | Crafted (Engineering) | |
| 20 | Crafted (Engineering) | |
| 20 | Crafted (Engineering) | |
| 8 | Magical goods vendors |
If you craft the intermediate components yourself, you will need:
| Raw material | Quantity | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 46 | Smelted from ore / Auction house | |
| 2 | Earth elementals in Outland | |
| 1 | Fire elementals in Outland | |
| 8 | Magical goods vendors |
The recipes for both mounts are learned from Engineering trainers. The main Outland Engineering trainers are:
| Trainer | Faction | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Lebronski | Neutral | Area 52, Netherstorm |
| Niobe Whizzlespark | Alliance | Wildhammer Stronghold, Shadowmoon Valley |
| Jonathan Garrett | Horde | Shadowmoon Village, Shadowmoon Valley |
Buy from vendors instead of crafting — the intermediate components for the Turbo-Charged Flying Machine (frames, rods, stabilizers) are sold by Engineering vendors in Area 52 and at the Stormspire in limited quantities. This is significantly cheaper and faster than mining rare ores
Star Wood is sold by enchanting vendors — this material is not gathered but bought from reagent vendors for magical supplies in any capital city
The Flying Machine is a great auction item — the cost of crafting the mount is minimal, while the sale price can be several hundred gold, since many players don't want to level Engineering just for a single mount
A dancing figurine is required for the Turbo-Charged Flying Machine — this unique item is sold only by Griftah in Lower City of Shattrath for 100 gold. The figurine is displayed on the mount's dashboard and is part of the recipe
Don't confuse the versions — the Flying Machine and Turbo-Charged Flying Machine look identical, but the Turbo-Charged version is an epic item. In the mount collection they count as two separate mounts
Leveling Outland Engineering to 75 for the Turbo-Charged Flying Machine — if you are starting from scratch, use Engineering leveling guides. To move on to the Outland branch you only need at least 1 point in base Engineering
The mount scales — the mount's speed depends on your Riding skill, not on the quality of the mount itself. The Flying Machine flies just as fast as any other mount at the same skill
