Highlord's Vengeful Charger
Overview

The
Highlord's Vengeful Charger is a ground and flying mount available exclusively to Paladins. The mount is a red-and-silver warhorse adorned with Silver Hand armor pieces, and it is one of four color variations of the Paladin class mount added in patch 7.2 of the Legion expansion.
The item is purchased from Crusader Lord Dalfors in the Sanctum of Light — the Paladin order hall — for 1,000 class hall resources. Before buying it, you must first obtain the base class mount, the Golden Charger, through a quest chain.
Why You Want This Mount
- Guaranteed acquisition — the mount is bought from a vendor for a fixed price. No percentage drop chance — complete the quests, pay the resources, and the mount is yours
- Unique model for Paladins — the red-and-silver color scheme pairs perfectly with Scarlet Crusade transmogs and other dark Paladin sets
- Ground and flying — the mount works both on the ground and in the air. Speed depends on your riding skill: up to +100% on the ground and up to +310% while flying
- Available to all Paladins on the account — once learned, the mount appears in the mount journal for every Paladin on your account, regardless of faction
How to Obtain
Obtaining the mount consists of two stages: first you complete the quest chain for the base Golden Charger, then you buy the color variation — the Vengeful Charger.
Stage 1: Obtaining the Base Mount
- Complete the Paladin order hall campaign in the Sanctum of Light
- Earn the Breaching the Tomb achievement on the Broken Shore
- After earning the achievement, pick up the quest "A Worthy Title" from Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker in the Sanctum of Light
- Complete the preparation quest chain:
- Preparation Underway — get a leather barding from a leatherworker
- A Little Something to Start — gather 25 Leystone Ore and 1 Suramar Sapphire
- From Hide to Legend — combine the materials into a plated barding
- Complete the final scenario, "Stirring in the Shadows"
- After completing the scenario, you receive the
Glowing Reins of the Golden Charger — the base Paladin class mount
Stage 2: Buying the Vengeful Charger
- Make sure you have at least 1,000 class hall resources
- Head to the Sanctum of Light
- Find Crusader Lord Dalfors — he stands to the left of the order board, on the steps
- Purchase the
Harsh Reins of the Vengeful Charger for 1,000 order resources - Use the item to learn the mount
Stirring in the Shadows Scenario Walkthrough
The final scenario for obtaining the base mount is the most interesting part of the chain. Here is a step-by-step walkthrough.
Choosing Allies
At the start of the scenario, you will be asked to choose two Paladin companions. There are two candidates available for each specialization. The choice only affects the visual escort — pick whomever you like.
Exploring Stratholme
You will find yourself in an instanced version of Stratholme. The main objectives are:
- Collect 6 Vials of Stratholme Holy Water — look for crates scattered throughout the city
- Free 3 captive Knights of the Silver Hand — they are imprisoned in different parts of the city
- Kill three bosses: Rotfang, Ossein, and Pestulon
Completing the Scenario
- Return to Lord Grayson Shadowbreaker in Elders' Square and hand over the holy water
- Fill the barding with sacred power through your artifact weapon
- Ride to Rivendare's Crypt
- Defeat Reimiel the Soul-Wreaker — the final boss of the scenario
- Talk to Grayson to return to the Chapel of the Last Hope and watch the final cutscene
The scenario poses no challenge at the current level cap and takes 10–15 minutes to complete.
How to Get to the Sanctum of Light
The Sanctum of Light is the Paladin order hall, located in the Eastern Plaguelands.
- Travel to the Chapel of the Last Hope in the Eastern Plaguelands
- Enter the chapel building
- Hover your cursor over the floor — it will turn into an interactive hand
- Click the stone slab on the floor — it will slide aside, revealing a staircase down
- Descend into the Sanctum of Light
Crusader Lord Dalfors stands to the left of the order board, on the steps of the entrance room.
The Breaching the Tomb Achievement
The Breaching the Tomb achievement is a mandatory requirement to begin the class mount quest chain. It requires completing a series of tasks on the Broken Shore.
At the current level cap all the tasks are completed quickly, but some stages are tied to time-gates:
- Some tasks require completing world quests or constructing buildings on the Broken Shore
- A number of stages become available only after completing the previous ones
- Overall, the achievement can be completed in 1–2 play sessions if you focus on it
Important: on alternate Paladin characters it is enough to complete only the first two quests of the Broken Shore chain — the full achievement is only needed on your first character.
Where to Get Order Resources
Order Resources are a currency from the Legion expansion, required to purchase the mount. Here are the main sources:
- World quests on the Broken Isles — many quests reward Order Resources
- Treasures and rare mobs — chests with resources are scattered across the Broken Isles and Argus
- Command table missions — send champions on missions for resources
- Emissary quests — turning in tokens to emissaries can reward resources
1,000 resources is a small amount that can be gathered in 15–20 minutes of focused world quest farming.
Tips
Start with the order campaign — if you have not yet completed the Paladin order hall campaign, start with it. Without a completed campaign, the class mount quest will not unlock
Suramar Sapphire — the longest stage of the preparation quests. The sapphire can be bought on the auction house, obtained from scouting in Suramar, or mined from veins on the Broken Isles
The mount is available at level 10 — technically the item can be used from level 10 with the appropriate riding skill, but the quests to obtain it require a character of level 45+
Alternate characters — on alts it is enough to complete the first two quests on the Broken Shore, after which the class mount quest becomes available. The full Breaching the Tomb achievement is only required on your first character
All four mounts in one visit — if you have 3,000 Order Resources, buy all three additional variations in a single visit to the Sanctum of Light
