Overview

Headless Horseman's Ghoulish Charger

Game iconHeadless Horseman's Ghoulish Charger is an epic ground and flying mount added in patch 11.2.0 of The War Within expansion. It is an updated HD version of the classic Game iconHeadless Horseman's Mount, rendered in an eerie greenish color scheme. The mount drops from the Loot-Filled Pumpkin after defeating the Headless Horseman during the annual Hallow's End event.

The mount is an undead charger with green spectral flames on its hooves, eyes and nostrils. The model mirrors the silhouette of the classic Horseman's mount but with updated detail and modern glow effects.

Why you want this mount

  • An updated classic — an HD version of one of the most recognizable mounts in the game. If you have farmed the original Game iconHeadless Horseman's Mount for years, this mount makes a great addition to your collection
  • Ground and flying — the mount supports both regular flight and skyriding. Speed depends on your riding skill
  • Part of a four-mount collection — the Ghoulish Charger is part of a series of four themed Headless Horseman mounts added in patch 11.2.0. Each differs in color scheme and effects
  • Available on all characters — once obtained, the mount becomes available on every character on the account
  • Bad luck protection — the drop chance increases with each failed daily attempt, so with regular participation in the event you will eventually get the mount

How to reach the Headless Horseman

The Headless Horseman is a seasonal boss available only during the Hallow's End event. The event runs annually, usually from October 18 to November 1.

  1. Open the Dungeon Finder (default key I)
  2. Go to the "Dungeon" tab and select the "Holiday Bosses" section
  3. Choose "Headless Horseman" and click "Join Queue"
  4. Once inside the dungeon, defeat the Headless Horseman together with your group
  5. After the victory you will receive a Loot-Filled Pumpkin — open it to receive your rewards

The queue is available for characters from level 10 to 90. The wait time is usually minimal, as the event is very popular.

Drop chance and limitations

The mount has an extremely low base drop chance, but with an important bad luck protection mechanic:

  • One attempt per day per account. You only have a chance to get the mount from the first pumpkin of the day. Repeated kills on alternate characters do not increase the number of attempts
  • Increasing chance each day. Every failed daily attempt raises your chance for the next day. The longer you farm without success, the higher the drop probability
  • Reset at the end of the event. The accumulated chance bonus only applies within the current Hallow's End. Next year, the count starts over

Headless Horseman hard mode

In patch 11.2.0 a more difficult mode (hard mode) was added for the Headless Horseman, which increases the chance of obtaining the mount.

To activate hard mode, you must use the Wickerman's curses before the fight begins. The Wickerman is located near the entrance to the Horseman's dungeon. Activating all four curses significantly increases the difficulty of the fight but, in return, raises the probability of receiving rare rewards.

If your group is well geared, it is recommended to always run hard mode to maximize your chances.

Guaranteed rewards

In addition to the mount, the daily Headless Horseman kill grants guaranteed rewards:

  • Headless Horseman's Ghoulish Armor — one random piece of a 9-item transmog set. Awarded daily without duplicates until you collect the entire set
  • Tricky Treats — a festive currency for purchasing cosmetic items, toys and pets from Hallow's End vendors

Farming tips

  • Don't skip a single day. The drop chance increases with each daily attempt. Skipping a day does not reset the accumulated bonus, but every attempt brings you closer to your goal
  • Use hard mode. Activating the Wickerman's curses increases the probability of obtaining the mount. If your group can handle the harder fight, always choose hard mode
  • Go in on your best-geared character. Since the chance is tied to the account, not the character, there is no point in making multiple runs on different characters. Pick the one who clears the fight the fastest
  • Plan ahead. The event lasts about two weeks. With daily participation you will have 14 attempts with a growing chance. That is enough to build up significant bad luck protection
  • Collect Tricky Treats along the way. While farming the mount, don't forget to visit the inns to collect treats. You will need them to buy festive rewards from Hallow's End vendors
