Overview

Heartbond Lupine

Game iconHeartbond Lupine is a flying mount added to World of Warcraft in the Shadowlands expansion with patch 9.2 "Eternity's End." It is a protoform wolf created by the Progenitors in Zereth Mortis: a massive silver-grey creature with blue energy patterns and glowing eyes. The mount's unique trait is that it flies by "paddling" through the air with distinctive canine movements, as if it were rowing its paws through invisible water.

The mount is crafted at a forge through the Protoform Synthesis system. Crafting requires three key reagents and the rare Game iconSchematic: Heartbond Lupine, which drops from a single mob — the Maw-Frenzied Lupine in a cave.

Why you want this mount

  • Unique flight animation — the mount doesn't flap wings, it smoothly "paddles" its paws through the air. This is one of the most unusual flight animations in the entire game
  • A flying wolf model — an extremely rare combination. Most wolf mounts in WoW are strictly ground-bound, while the Heartbond Lupine takes to the skies
  • Protoform aesthetic — the silver-white body with blue energy patterns visually pairs with other protoform mounts from Zereth Mortis
  • Account-wide access — once obtained, the mount unlocks for every character on your account, regardless of faction, class, or level
  • Unlimited schematic farming — the Maw-Frenzied Lupine respawns in about a minute, and you can kill it dozens of times in a row until the schematic drops
  • Nostalgic content — Zereth Mortis remains accessible at max level, and patch 9.2 mobs die in a single hit, turning the farm into a comfortable routine

How to get it

The process consists of two independent stages: first you obtain the schematic, then you gather the reagents and craft the mount.

  1. Head to Zereth Mortis. The zone opens after completing the main campaign of patch 9.2 "Eternity's End"
  2. Fly to the cave system southeast of the Forge of Afterlives. The entrance to the cave with the Maw-Frenzied Lupine is located at roughly the coordinates 51.9, 62.7, and the mob itself stands inside at around 52.8, 63.6
  3. Kill the Maw-Frenzied Lupine. It has a medium chance to drop the Game iconSchematic: Heartbond Lupine. If the schematic doesn't drop, wait for the respawn (about a minute) and repeat — there is no loot lock on this mob
  4. Pick up the schematic — it binds on pickup and automatically starts the quest Schematic Reassimilation: Heartbond Lupine. Complete the quest and learn the recipe
  5. Gather the reagents: 500 Game iconGenesis Mote, 1 Game iconCrystallized Echo of the First Song, and 1 Game iconLupine Lattice
  6. Fly to the Protoform Synthesis mount forge in the cave at coordinates 68.5, 30.1 in the western part of the Vault of Allotment
  7. Use the Protoform Synthesis console and create the Game iconHeartbond Lupine. Crafting is instant, with no cooldown or additional conditions

Crafting reagents

To craft the mount at the Protoform Vault forge you will need three components. Each is gathered separately, and they all drop in Zereth Mortis.

Reagent Quantity Main source
Game iconGenesis Mote 500 Drop from nearly every mob in Zereth Mortis, as well as from caches, fishing, and quests
Game iconCrystallized Echo of the First Song 1 The Crystallized Echo of the First Song object by the waterfalls around the Sepulcher of the First Ones
Game iconLupine Lattice 1 Drops from all lupines in Zereth Mortis, with a higher chance from elites and rares

Where to farm the schematic

The Maw-Frenzied Lupine is an uncategorized elite mob of level 60. It stands deep within the Chorus Residuum cave on the cliffs southeast of the Forge of Afterlives.

  1. Open the Zereth Mortis map and set a waypoint at 51.87, 62.74 — this is the cave entrance
  2. Descend down the corridor to an open area. The mob stands alone, with no surrounding patrols
  3. Kill the Maw-Frenzied Lupine. At level 90 in Midnight it dies in one or two hits
  4. Check the loot. Besides the Game iconSchematic: Heartbond Lupine, it also drops the Game iconLupine Lattice, which is convenient — in a single run you collect two key components at once
  5. If there's no schematic, leave the cave or step away for 30 seconds — the mob respawns in about a minute

Farming notes

  • There is no weekly or daily loot lock on the schematic. You can kill the mob endlessly until the Game iconSchematic: Heartbond Lupine drops
  • The schematic's drop rate is medium; in practice players get it anywhere from the first attempt to a hundred kills. Be ready for a lengthy farm
  • If the schematic has already been obtained and used, it won't drop again — the loot table accounts for learned recipes

Where to find the reagents

Genesis Mote

Game iconGenesis Mote is the main Protoform Synthesis currency. 500 is a significant but not critical amount: at max level you gather them passively during any activity in Zereth Mortis.

  • Kill any mobs in the zone — practically every one drops a few motes
  • Complete daily quests
  • Open Game iconOlea Cache — they are guaranteed to contain a large batch of motes, with a chance at any of the mount reagents as well
  • Go fishing in the waters of Zereth Mortis and the Crypts of the Eternal Ones — motes are caught from the water

Crystallized Echo of the First Song

Game iconCrystallized Echo of the First Song is not loot but a gatherable object Crystallized Echo of the First Song. A music-note icon hovers above it.

  • Fly to the waterfalls around the entrance to the Sepulcher of the First Ones raid
  • Check all four waterfalls around the perimeter — one echo spawns at each
  • A fifth echo is located further east, in the Catalyst Garden
  • The objects can only be picked up by one player, but they respawn, so you can return repeatedly

Lupine Lattice

Game iconLupine Lattice drops from all lupines (wolf-like protoforms) in Zereth Mortis. Elites and rares have an increased chance.

  • Farm regular lupines in the northern part of the zone and along the Chorus Residuum
  • Kill the rare Maw-Frenzied Lupine in the same run as for the schematic — the lattice drops from it often
  • With a small chance the lattice drops from Olea Chests

Farming optimization

Combined run

The most efficient way to get everything you need is to combine schematic farming with reagent farming in a single location.

  1. Fly to the Chorus Residuum and start a kill cycle on the Maw-Frenzied Lupine
  2. Between respawns, kill nearby lupines for Game iconLupine Lattices and motes
  3. During any travel across the zone, collect Game iconCrystallized Echoes of the First Song by the waterfalls of the Sepulcher of the First Ones
  4. Complete the Enlightened daily and weekly quests — they give a solid boost of motes and unlock access to caches

Tips

1

Set a waypoint at the cave entrance — the macro /way #Zereth Mortis 51.87 62.74 quickly leads to the goal. The entrance is easy to miss when flying past

2

Don't leave the zone between kills — flying to the capital will throw off your timing, and meanwhile the mob will already be killed by another player. Stay near the spawn

3

Use AoE and passive effects — at level 90 the mob dies in one hit, but it's worth clearing the surrounding lupines for lattices at the same time

4

Gather everything along the way — any Crystallized Echoes, Lupine Lattices, and Genesis Motes on the way to your goal save dozens of minutes of farming later

5

Check your wallet before crafting — if you've already crafted other protoform mounts, you may have leftover motes and several echoes. This will speed up the home stretch

6

Don't rush to learn the schematic right away — the inv_misc_scrollrolled06aSchematic: Heartbond Lupine is character-bound and not tradable. But you can use it at any time, so first gather all the reagents, then activate the quest and craft the mount right away

7

The mount is account-wide after obtaining it — as soon as one character learns the inv_progenitorwolfHeartbond Lupine, the mount appears in the collection of all characters on your account, regardless of faction and level
