Fiendish Hellfire Core
Overview

The
Fiendish Hellfire Core is an item that teaches the
Hellfire Infernal mount. It is a fiery red infernal, one of the most striking ground mounts in World of Warcraft. The mount drops exclusively from Gul'dan — the final boss of The Nighthold raid on Mythic difficulty. It can also be purchased on the Black Market.
Why You Want This Mount
- Unique model — a red infernal with a blazing demonic aura that stands out among other mounts
- Available only on Mythic difficulty — most players will never obtain it, which makes the mount prestigious
- One of two infernals from Gul'dan — the other, the
Living Infernal Core, drops on all difficulties and is green in color - Counts toward your overall mount collection for collector achievements
Drop Chance
| Period | Drop Chance |
|---|---|
| During the Legion expansion (current content) | 100% |
| After Legion ended (current) | ~1% |
During Legion, the mount was a guaranteed drop from Mythic Gul'dan. With the release of subsequent expansions, the chance was reduced to the standard ~1%, as happens with all mounts from Mythic raids of past expansions.
Alternative Ways to Obtain It
- Black Market — the mount rarely appears on the Black Market. The price ranges from 800,000 to 3,800,000 gold depending on the server and competition. This is an unpredictable but viable way to get the mount without farming the raid.
Requirements
- A character level 10 or higher (the item's formal requirement)
- For efficient solo runs, a level 90 character with current gear is recommended
- Access to the Suramar zone on the Broken Isles
- The raid must be cleared on Mythic difficulty — this mount does not drop on other difficulties
How to Reach The Nighthold
- Use your Dalaran Hearthstone (Broken Isles) or a portal from your capital city
- From Dalaran, fly south to Suramar
- The raid entrance is located in the city of Suramar — on the Terrace of Order
- Entrance coordinates:
/way Suramar 45.8 64.5 The Nighthold - Fast route: fly to the Meredil flight point in Suramar, enter Shal'Aran, and use the portal to the Sanctum of Order. From there, descend into the depths of the Sanctum and follow the northern tunnel to the raid entrance
Tip: if you have not previously completed the Suramar story campaign, the portal to Shal'Aran may be unavailable. In that case, simply fly directly to the raid entrance using the coordinates above.
Step-by-Step Guide to Obtaining It
Boss Order in The Nighthold
The Nighthold is a raid with 10 bosses. Gul'dan is the final boss, so you need to clear the entire raid.
Mandatory order (first 3 bosses):
- Skorpyron
- Chronomatic Anomaly
- Trilliax
Middle bosses (in any order): 4. Spellblade Aluriel 5. Tichondrius 6. Krosus 7. High Botanist Tel'arn 8. Star Augur Etraeus
Final bosses (fixed order): 9. Grand Magistrix Elisande 10. Gul'dan — your target
Raid Skip
There is a way to skip part of the raid:
- The NPC First Arcanist Thalyssra offers the quest "The Nighthold: Shal'dorai Talisman"
- To complete the quest, you must kill and loot Grand Magistrix Elisande 4 times on Mythic difficulty and collect 4 "Echoes of Time"
- After completing the quest, you can use the orb in Elisande's room to teleport to the Well of Night, allowing you to skip most of the raid
The Gul'dan Fight on Mythic Difficulty
On Mythic difficulty, Gul'dan has an additional phase — at 10% health, the fight with the Inner Demon begins, a demonic manifestation of Sargeras within Illidan's body.
Important: in patch 9.1.5, Blizzard tuned the difficulty of The Nighthold for solo play, significantly simplifying the fight against Mythic Gul'dan. At level 90 with current Midnight expansion gear, most classes handle the boss without much trouble.
Farm Optimization
How Long One Run Takes
- Full clear of the raid at level 90 solo: 20–35 minutes depending on class and route knowledge
- With the skip (if the quest is completed): 10–15 minutes
Farming on Alts
You can clear the raid once per week on each character (Mythic ID lock).
| Alts at level 90 | Attempts per week | Average number of weeks until the drop (~1%) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | ~100 |
| 3 | 3 | ~33 |
| 5 | 5 | ~20 |
| 10 | 10 | ~10 |
The calculation is probabilistic — the actual number of attempts may be significantly lower or higher.
Which Class to Farm On
- Demon Hunter — excellent mobility, strong area damage, self-healing
- Druid — fast movement in cat/bear form, high survivability in bear form
- Death Knight — powerful self-healing, steady handling of Gul'dan's additional phase
- Paladin — "Divine Shield" lets you ignore dangerous mechanics
Tips and Tricks
- Don't confuse the two mounts. Both infernals can drop from Mythic Gul'dan: the red one (Fiendish Hellfire Core) and the green one (Living Infernal Core). The green infernal also drops on Normal and Heroic difficulties.
- Check the Black Market. If you have spare gold, periodically check the Black Market — the mount may appear there and save you months of farming.
- Complete the skip quest. Spend 4 weeks completing Thalyssra's quest — after that, every weekly run will take half as long.
- Reset your ID every week. The raid's Mythic ID resets every Tuesday (Wednesday for EU servers). Don't forget to enter the raid right after the reset.
- Set the difficulty in advance. Before entering the raid, make sure Mythic difficulty is set (right-click your portrait → Raid Difficulty → Mythic). The mount does not drop on other difficulties.
- Patience is key. With a ~1% chance, you may need anywhere from a few weeks to a few years of farming. The more alts you use, the better your odds.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
