Get Highland Mustang mount

Highland Mustang is a ground mount added in the Battle for Azeroth expansion. It is a sturdy horse with a piebald coat and a battle saddle, described as: "This bold steed from the Arathi Highlands knows no fear." The mount drops from the rare mob Doomrider Helgrim in the Warfront zone — the Arathi Highlands.

The mount belongs to the horse family and is available only to Alliance characters. However, learning the Highland Mustang automatically adds its Horde version to your collection — the Broken Highland Mustang.

• A unique piebald horse model, visually distinct from standard Alliance steeds
• Learning it grants you two mounts at once — the Alliance version and the Horde version
• It counts toward your overall mount collection total and related achievements
• A mount from Warfront content that is no longer updated — over time it becomes increasingly rare in player collections

• A character of level 10 or higher
• Riding skill: Apprentice
• Faction: Alliance (the Horde mount is learned automatically)
• Access to the Arathi Highlands zone during the Warfront phase
• The Alliance must control Stromgarde — only then does Doomrider Helgrim appear

Doomrider Helgrim is a level 51 rare mob from the Defilers faction. He is located at Go'Shek Farm in the northern part of the Arathi Highlands. Coordinates for the TomTom addon:

Helgrim spawns only when the Alliance controls Stromgarde. When the zone is controlled by the Horde, Knight-Captain Aldrin spawns instead, who drops the Horde version of the mount — the Broken Highland Mustang.

• Respawn time: short (a few minutes after being killed)

Step 1: Check zone control

Open the Arathi Highlands map and make sure the Alliance controls Stromgarde. Control phases alternate between factions roughly once a week. If the Horde controls the zone — wait for the phase to change.

Step 2: Get to Go'Shek Farm

Head to the Arathi Highlands (Eastern Kingdoms). Go'Shek Farm is located in the central part of the zone, coordinates 53.97, 56.96.

Step 3: Kill Doomrider Helgrim

Doomrider Helgrim is an easy opponent for a character at the current level cap. At max level he dies within a few seconds. If the mob isn't there, wait a few minutes — the respawn time for Warfront rares is short.

Step 4: Collect the loot

After the kill, check the loot. The drop chance of the Highland Mustang is approximately 6.8% (according to Wowhead, based on over 115,000 recorded kills). If the mount didn't drop, you can only try again after the control phase changes.

The Warfront mechanic places serious restrictions on farming this mount:

• One loot per cycle. You can get loot from Helgrim only once per control cycle. After that, the mob stops dropping loot until the next phase change.
• Phase changes — about once a week. Control of the zone passes between factions, and the loot resets only with a new cycle.
• Farming on alts. You can kill Helgrim on multiple Alliance characters during a single cycle — each character has its own loot lockout.

Thus, with a ~6.8% chance and one attempt per week per character, obtaining the mount can take anywhere from a single attempt to several months. Using multiple alts significantly speeds up the process.

• TomTom — for navigating by coordinates to Helgrim's spawn point
• HandyNotes — Warfront Rares — marks Warfront rare mobs on the map and automatically hides those you've already looted in the current cycle
• RareFinder — alerts you to the appearance of rare mobs in the zone

• Use multiple characters. Each Alliance alt at level 10+ can try its luck once per cycle. The more characters — the higher your overall chance.
• Track the Warfront cycle. The community tracks control phases — check the in-game event calendar or themed resources.
• Clear nearby mobs. If Helgrim doesn't appear, try killing nearby enemies — some players report this helps speed up his respawn.
• Combine your farming. The Arathi Highlands has other rare mobs that drop mounts.
• The Helgrim quest. When the world quest Doomrider Helgrim is active, you'll receive an additional reward for the kill, on top of the mount chance.
