Brown Wolf

Horn of the Brown Wolf is one of the four basic racial orc mounts, added to the game back in the original World of Warcraft. It's a classic brown wolf with thick fur that lets out a long howl when summoned. The mount teaches the Brown Wolf spell, and once learned it is shared across all Horde characters on your account.

In 2026, in the era of The War Within, the mount remains the most accessible way to expand your collection of mounts. Orcs buy it directly for 1 gold, while other Horde races simply need to raise their reputation with Orgrimmar to Exalted. The mount is often picked up for the achievements Cavalry Commander and Leading the Cavalry, which require collecting 50 and 100 different mounts respectively.

• Cheap and accessible. The price is only 1 gold. At level 80 that's pocket change, and the mount is immediately added to your collection and counts toward all the shared achievements for the number of mounts.
• Achievement progress. Each of Ogunaro's wolves is a separate entry in the collection. By buying all four basic and three speedy variants from a single NPC, you get +7 mounts in a single trip to Orgrimmar.
• Path to the traditional set. For orcs and players planning to obtain the traditional armor set, raising reputation with Orgrimmar to Exalted is one of the mandatory steps. Buying the wolves becomes a pleasant bonus to that goal.
• Classic orcish aesthetic. The brown wolf looks exactly like the mount Thrall rode in the cinematics. A great option for role-play and old-school transmog.
• Shared roster. Once learned, the mount is available to all your Horde characters regardless of race and class, including freshly created alts.

Ogunaro Wolfrunner stands by the wolf pens in The Drag — the military-industrial district of Orgrimmar. It's the northeastern part of the city, most easily reached through a portal from any capital or via a hearthstone.

1. Travel to Orgrimmar. The most convenient ways are a hearthstone, a portal from the Horde portal room, or a mage's teleport spell
2. Open the Orgrimmar map and find the The Drag district — it lies in the east of the city, separated from the Valley of Strength by a mountain corridor
3. Pass through the Valley of Strength heading east, toward the huge gate leading to The Drag
4. Just past the gate, near the kennels and stables, stands Ogunaro Wolfrunner, patrolling a small area. The coordinates are roughly 61, 35

The buying process depends on whether you play an orc or another Horde race.

If you play an orc

1. Walk up to Ogunaro Wolfrunner
2. Right-click to open the list of goods
3. Select Horn of the Brown Wolf and buy it for 1 gold
4. Use the item from your inventory — it will teach the mount and disappear. After that the wolf will be available in your collections journal at any time

For mounts it's enough to learn Apprentice Riding. The skill is granted automatically at level 10, so there's no need to go to a trainer specifically.

If you play another Horde race

Trolls, tauren, blood elves, undead, goblins, pandaren, and all other non-orcs first need to raise their reputation with the Orgrimmar faction to Exalted. While the reputation is lower, Ogunaro will refuse to sell the wolves and will show the standard message about insufficient loyalty.

1. Check your current reputation level on the "Reputation" tab (default key U)
2. Raise your reputation to Exalted using one of the methods below
3. Return to Ogunaro Wolfrunner and buy the mount

In The War Within there are several ways to reach Exalted at once. Choose whichever is convenient.

Orgrimmar tabard and dungeons

The fastest and most predictable path.

1. Buy the Orgrimmar Tabard from the Horde quartermaster in The Drag
2. Head into any dungeon from Wrath of the Lich King or earlier expansions. With the tabard equipped, every kill in the dungeon grants reputation with Orgrimmar
3. At level 80, old instances are cleared solo in a few minutes. It's convenient to take short dungeons like Utgarde Keep or Loch Modan
4. After clearing, leave the dungeon, reset it through the character menu, and repeat the run

Exalted is usually reached in 1.5–2 hours of steady farming.

Turning in cloth

A classic method that has worked since Burning Crusade.

• Bring Runecloth or other cloth to Orgrimmar representatives in The Drag. Each turn-in gives a fixed amount of reputation; the method is slow but convenient if the cloth is already sitting in your bank

Story quests and campaigns

Quest chains across Kalimdor, as well as the Battle for Azeroth campaigns, give a noticeable boost to reputation with Orgrimmar. If you're leveling a character through the classic zones, a significant part of the path to Exalted is covered alongside the story.
