Swift Timber Wolf

Swift Timber Wolf is a classic epic ground mount of the Horde, added back in the original version of World of Warcraft (patch 1.11.1). It is a massive gray-black wolf with thick fur, visually almost identical to the regular Timber Wolf, but with a noticeable bonus to movement speed. The model harks back to the orcish culture of the Frostwolf clan, which tamed timber wolves in the cold foothills of Alterac and Hillsbrad.

In the The War Within expansion at max level 80, the mount remains relevant as an inexpensive collectible item. It is purchased to complete progress in collection achievements and to quickly fill out the collection on young Horde alts. No storylines, quests, or raids are required to obtain it — you just need to reach the vendor and hand over 10 gold.

• Epic speed for pennies — the mount increases movement speed by +100%, meaning it travels one and a half times faster than the regular racial wolves. And it costs only 10 gold
• Racial Horde atmosphere — one of the iconic orcish models. It fits perfectly into the looks of orcs, trolls, and tauren, especially for classic-style transmog
• Collection value — it counts toward the chain of collection achievements for 25, 50 and 100 mounts. For collectors, it is an easy unit for the tally
• Available from level 17 — after the update in patch 9.0.1, the level and riding skill requirements were significantly lowered. You no longer need to level up to 40
• Bound to the account — after purchase, the mount appears in the collection of all your characters, regardless of faction. You only need to buy it once
• Part of Ogunaro's wolf set — one of three epic wolves sold by Ogunaro Wolfrunner. Together with the regular wolves, he covers seven lines in the mount collection in a single visit

If You Play an Orc

1. Level your character up to 17 and learn Apprentice Riding from any trainer for 4 gold
2. Open the map of Orgrimmar and head to the Valley of Honor — the northeastern district of the city
3. In the northern part of the Valley of Honor, find the large wolf pen. Next to it patrols Ogunaro Wolfrunner, a vendor-breeder. The approximate coordinates are 61.1, 35.1
4. Open the trade window and buy the Horn of the Swift Timber Wolf for 10 gold
5. Open your mount collection (press Shift+P) and summon the wolf — it appears as an epic speed mount

If You Play Another Horde Race

For trolls, tauren, undead, blood elves, goblins, Horde pandaren, and all allied races, purchasing Ogunaro's wolves requires Exalted reputation with the Orgrimmar faction. From the starting neutral mark to Exalted, you need to accumulate about 42,000 reputation points.

1. Buy the Orgrimmar Tabard from Stone Guard Nargol in Orgrimmar. He stands on the upper observation platform — the Orgrimmar Skyway, near the flight master
2. Equip the tabard. While you wear it, all reputation gained in dungeons counts toward Orgrimmar
3. Run Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King dungeons on normal difficulty. The optimal choice is The Botanica in Netherstorm: short, linear, with a dense flow of mobs. One run at level 80 takes 3–5 minutes
4. After killing the last boss, leave the dungeon and reset it through the character menu: right-click on your portrait — "Reset all instances". Re-enter
5. In 1–2 hours of such farming, you will reach Exalted
6. Return to Ogunaro Wolfrunner and buy the Horn of the Swift Timber Wolf for 10 gold

Ogunaro Wolfrunner is Orgrimmar's main wolf breeder. He patrols around the stone wolf pen in the northern part of the Valley of Honor, near the Kor'kron Guard barracks. The pen is easy to spot by the sounds — several pets growl constantly inside. If you are in this district for the first time, orient yourself by the northern wall of the Valley of Honor.

Right next to Ogunaro stands the riding trainer Kildar. If you have not yet learned the skill — it is convenient to do so in one go, without going far from the pen.

Ogunaro Wolfrunner has the full assortment of racial Horde wolves available — both regular and epic. If you are building a collection, it makes sense to close out all of them in one visit.

The total cost of the whole set is 34 gold for seven different mounts. At level 80, this is a minimal investment for seven positions in the collection. The reputation requirement is the same for all three epic wolves: orcs take them right away, the other Horde races — after reaching Exalted with Orgrimmar.

For non-orc characters, the tabard and dungeon farming are the most predictable path. There are two working options that can be combined.

Dungeon Farming with the Tabard

• Equip the Orgrimmar Tabard and enter Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King dungeons on normal difficulty
• Every enemy killed and every boss adds reputation points with Orgrimmar while the tabard is worn
• The classic speedrun choice is The Botanica. The dungeon is short, linear, and requires almost no stops. At level 80, a full clear takes 3–5 minutes
• After the final boss, reset the dungeon through the character menu and re-enter

Argent Tournament Daily Quests

• In Icecrown is the Argent Tournament with daily quests that grant reputation for the chosen capital
• The method is slower than dungeon farming but works if you are already running these dailies on another mount or toward a parallel goal
• It combines with the tabard: you take part of the reputation through dungeons, part through dailies

Both methods work at any level and do not require a special build or gear — a regular level 80 specialization is enough.

Each purchase from Ogunaro adds a separate mount to the collection and brings you closer to the key collection achievements:

• Achievement for 10 mounts
• Achievement for 25 mounts
• Achievement for 50 mounts — rewards the Reins of the Albino Drake
• "Leading the Cavalry" — for 100 mounts, rewards the Red Dragonhawk on the Horde side

Ogunaro's seven wolves give 7 positions in the collection at once. For new Horde characters, this is the cheapest way to pull up toward the first two achievement thresholds.

• Take all the epic wolves at once — 30 gold for three mounts with a +100% speed bonus. At level 80, this is a completely negligible expense for three units in the collection.
• It is worthwhile for non-orcs to grind reputation at max level — at level 80, Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King dungeons are cleared in mere minutes, and the tabard steadily fills the counter. At low levels, farming is slower.
• Combine with buying the regular wolves — if you are already going for the Horn of the Timber Wolf and the other basic wolves, pick up the epic versions in the same trip. The reputation requirement is the same for all of them.
• Check for free bag space — Ogunaro has seven different items available at once. Before your visit, free up several slots so you can close the whole list in one go.
• Connection to collector meta-achievements — the epic wolves count toward the long chains of mount-count achievements. Don't skip them if you are going for the Reins of the Albino Drake or the Red Dragonhawk.
• The mount is saved to the account — after purchase, the epic wolf will appear in the collection of all your Horde characters, including those who have not yet reached Exalted. There is no need to buy it again on alts.
• Don't confuse them with the Draenor wolves — Ogunaro's wolves have nothing to do with the dire wolves from Warlords of Draenor. They are different models and different sources of acquisition. Ogunaro's models are the classic orcish wolves of original WoW.
• Use a Hearthstone — after buying the mount in Orgrimmar, don't waste time on the trip back; teleport straight to your leveling or farming spot.
