Howling Echoes — Transmog Set Guide

Howling Echoes is a two-handed polearm of uncommon (green) quality, shaped like a massive scythe. The model is entirely steeped in the grim aesthetic of the Maw: a dark, twisted shaft, a bone blade with smoldering greenish-gold veins, and an aura of restless souls. It is one of the few ways to get the "necromantic" Maw scythe silhouette on a common weapon, and it is precisely for this look that collectors prize the appearance.

The weapon suits agility specializations that wield polearms — first and foremost rogues and demon hunters, as well as druids and hunters. By current-game standards the item's stats are irrelevant: it is farmed purely for the transmog. Howling Echoes becomes soulbound on pickup, so you need to obtain it on the character you plan to wear the appearance on.

The appearance drops in the Black Rook Hold dungeon in Val'sharah. There is a single source — one boss.

• It drops from the Amalgam of Souls, the dungeon's first boss.
• The drop chance is extremely low, around 0.2%, so be ready for a long farm.
• The item only drops on Mythic difficulty and in Mythic Keystone mode; it is not available on Normal or Heroic difficulty.
• The fight against the Amalgam of Souls is simple: at 50% health the boss splits into the individual ancestral souls of the Ravencrest line, which you must finish off.
• No additional access requirements, reputation, or quests are needed to enter the dungeon.

At max level, Black Rook Hold is easily cleared solo, so it is most convenient to farm the first boss solo and reset the dungeon over and over. Since the Amalgam of Souls stands right at the start, a single run to it and back takes literally a couple of minutes.

• It fits "necromantic" and "dark" concepts perfectly thanks to the bone blade and the greenish glow of souls.
• It pairs well with plate and leather sets from the Maw and the Shadowlands in a black-and-green palette.
• It looks great in a rogue or demon hunter outfit built around the theme of death and shadow.
• It contrasts with bright "holy" sets — a debatable but striking choice for a fallen-warrior look.
