Ice Mammoth is a ground mount from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, available to Alliance characters. It is a snow-white mammoth in icy armor, one of the symbols of the Sons of Hodir faction. The mount is sold by the faction quartermaster once you reach Revered reputation and costs 1,000 gold.
The Horde has a separate version of this mount —
Reins of the Ice Mammoth. They are visually identical except for the color of the armor elements: the Alliance version has blue accents, while the Horde version has red ones.

The mount is sold by Lillehoff — the Sons of Hodir quartermaster. He is located in Dun Niffelem, in The Storm Peaks region of Northrend.
Important: for Lillehoff to become available for interaction, you must first complete the introductory Sons of Hodir quest chain. Without it, the NPC will not appear or talk to you.
The Sons of Hodir are a faction of frost giants from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Unlike most factions, they have no tabard, and their reputation cannot be grinded through dungeons. Progress comes from quests, daily tasks, and turning in items.
Reputation with the Sons of Hodir starts at Hated. To move them to Neutral and gain access to daily quests, complete a long quest chain in The Storm Peaks.
At max level (80 in The War Within), all quests and mobs are killed instantly. The chain will take roughly 1.5–2 hours.
After unlocking the faction, daily quests will appear in Dun Niffelem and the surrounding area. As your reputation rises, additional daily quests unlock.
Daily quests grant between 1,050 and 2,250 reputation per day (depending on your current standing). Reaching Revered through daily quests alone will take roughly 7–10 days.
The fastest way to gain reputation is turning in
Relics of Ulduar. Every 10 relics grant 350 reputation (before bonuses). Relics can be:
If you have gold, buying relics on the auction house lets you grind reputation up to Revered in a single day, without waiting for the daily quest reset.
Upon reaching Revered, return to Lillehoff in Dun Niffelem and buy
Reins of the Ice Mammoth for 1,000 gold. Use the item — the mount will appear in your collection.
While grinding reputation, take note of the second mount at Lillehoff:
| Mount | Reputation | Price | Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revered | 1,000 g | Single-seat ground mount | |
| Exalted | 10,000 g | Three-seat mount with passengers |
If you plan to build a mammoth collection — keep grinding reputation to Exalted and pick up both versions.
Start with the auction house — check prices for
Relics of Ulduar. If they are cheap on your server, buy up the amount you need and grind reputation in a single session. This saves days of waiting on daily quests.
Combine with transmog farming — while flying through The Storm Peaks, drop into nearby Ulduar. This raid holds unique transmog sets and the
Mimiron's Head mount from Yogg-Saron.
Don't forget about Dalaran — a portal to Dalaran (Northrend) exists in every faction capital. From there, The Storm Peaks is just a couple of minutes of flight away.
At level 80 it's simple — the quest chain, mobs, and daily quests pose no challenge at max level. The only question is the time spent grinding reputation.
The Horde version is bought the same way — if you have a Horde character, they can buy their version of the mount from the same Lillehoff under the same conditions.
