Ice Mammoth is a ground mount from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, available to Horde characters. It is a snow-white mammoth in icy armor with red trim, one of the symbols of the Sons of Hodir faction. The mount is sold by the faction's quartermaster once you reach the "Revered" reputation level and costs 1,000 gold.
The Alliance has a separate version of this mount —
Reins of the Ice Mammoth. Visually both versions are identical except for the color of the armor trim: the Horde version has red accents, while the Alliance version has blue ones. Since patch 5.1 mounts have been account-wide, so purchasing either version makes the mount available to all of your characters.

The mount is sold by Lillehoff — quartermaster of the Sons of Hodir. He is located in Dun Niffelem, within the Storm Peaks in Northrend.
Important: for Lillehoff to become available for interaction, you must first complete the Sons of Hodir introductory quest chain. Without it, the NPC will not appear or talk to you.
The Sons of Hodir are a faction of frost giants from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Unlike most factions, they have no tabard, and their reputation cannot be earned through dungeons. Progress comes from quests, daily quests, and turning in items.
Reputation with the Sons of Hodir starts at the "Hated" level. To raise them to "Neutral" and gain access to daily quests, complete the long quest chain in the Storm Peaks.
At max level (80 in The War Within) all quests and mobs are killed instantly. The chain takes about 1.5–2 hours.
After unlocking the faction, daily quests will appear in Dun Niffelem and the surrounding area. As your reputation rises, additional daily quests are unlocked.
| Reputation level | Available quests | Reputation per day |
|---|---|---|
| Friendly | 3 quests | ~1,050 |
| Honored | +2 quests | ~1,750–2,050 |
| Revered | +1 quest | ~2,100–2,400 |
Daily quests grant between 1,050 and 2,250 reputation per day. To reach "Revered" through daily quests alone takes about 7–10 days.
The fastest way to earn reputation is to turn in
Relics of Ulduar. Every 10 relics grant 350 reputation (before bonuses). Relics can be:
If you have gold, buying relics from the auction house lets you grind reputation to "Revered" in a single day, without waiting for the daily quest reset.
Upon reaching "Revered", return to Lillehoff in Dun Niffelem and buy
Reins of the Ice Mammoth for 1,000 gold. Use the item — the mount will appear in your collection.
While grinding reputation, take note of the second mount at Lillehoff:
| Mount | Reputation | Price | Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Revered | 1,000 g | Single-seat ground mount | |
| Exalted | 10,000 g | Three-seat mount with passengers |
If you plan to collect mammoth mounts, keep grinding reputation to "Exalted" and acquire both variants.
Start with the auction house — check the prices for
Relics of Ulduar. If they are cheap on your server, buy up the amount you need and grind the reputation in one run. This saves days of waiting on daily quests.
Combine with transmog farming — while flying through the Storm Peaks, drop by Ulduar nearby. This raid contains unique transmog sets and the
Mimiron's Head mount from Yogg-Saron.
Horde portals — the portal to Dalaran (Northrend) is in Orgrimmar. From there it is just a couple of minutes of flying to the Storm Peaks.
It's easy at level 80 — the quest chain, mobs, and daily quests at max level pose no challenge whatsoever. The only question is the time to grind the reputation.
The Alliance version is bought the same way — if you have an Alliance character, they can buy their version of the mount under the same conditions.
Use reputation bonuses — buffs that increase reputation gain from holiday events and other sources also work on the Sons of Hodir, speeding up the grind.
