Overview

Igneous Shalewing

Igneous Shalewing is an epic flying mount added in patch 10.1 "Embers of Neltharion" of the Dragonflight expansion. It is a fiery-orange shalewing — a winged creature that dwells in the underground lava caverns of Zaralek Cavern. The mount is purchased from the vendor Saccratros in the settlement of Loamm for 400 Coveted Baubles.

The Igneous Shalewing stands out with its rich, fiery coloring, which contrasts with the cooler tones of the other shalewings of Zaralek Cavern. The mount model is unique to the shalewing family — these are graceful flying creatures with broad, semi-transparent wings and a distinctive glow.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Guaranteed acquisition — the mount is bought from a vendor for currency rather than dropping at a percentage chance. You are certain to get it once you have saved up the required number of Coveted Baubles.
  • No reputation required — unlike many Dragonflight mounts, purchasing the Igneous Shalewing does not require a specific renown level with the Loamm Niffen.
  • Unique appearance — the fiery color scheme makes this shalewing one of the most striking members of the family. It looks noticeably different from the Cobalt Shalewing and the Darkflame Shalewing.
  • Available to all characters — once learned, the mount appears in the collection of every character on your account.
  • Flying mount — the Igneous Shalewing functions as a full flying mount in all zones where flight is permitted.

How to Obtain

To buy the mount you need to save up 400 Coveted Baubles. The whole process consists of three stages: earn Unearthed Fragrant Coins, exchange them for Coveted Baubles, and buy the mount.

  1. Head to Zaralek Cavern. The entrance is located on the Forbidden Reach beneath the Dragon Isles
  2. Take part in the zone events of Zaralek Cavern to get Unearthed Fragrant Coins
  3. Make your way to the settlement of Loamm — the base of the Loamm Niffen in the center of Zaralek Cavern
  4. Find Spinsoa and exchange Unearthed Fragrant Coins for Coveted Baubles at a 1:1 ratio
  5. Approach Saccratros, who stands next to Spinsoa
  6. Purchase the Igneous Shalewing for 400 Coveted Baubles and use the item to learn the mount

How to Reach Zaralek Cavern

Zaralek Cavern is an underground zone added in patch 10.1 of Dragonflight. It is a vast cave system beneath the Dragon Isles, home to the niffen and dragons.

First Visit

  1. Make sure your character has reached level 60 and is on the Dragon Isles
  2. Pick up the starting quest of the patch 10.1 campaign in Valdrakken
  3. Follow the quest chain — it will lead you into Zaralek Cavern and open access to the world quests and events of the zone
  4. After completing the introductory questline, you will end up in Loamm

Quick Access (after unlocking)

Once you have unlocked Zaralek Cavern, you can get there in several ways:

  1. Flight point — use the flight point in Loamm, accessible from any flight node of the Dragon Isles
  2. Cave entrance — the physical entrance is located in the south of the Forbidden Reach. Descend through the rift
  3. Hearthstone — set your hearthstone to Loamm for instant access

How to Earn Coveted Baubles

Coveted Baubles are a currency that can only be obtained by exchanging Unearthed Fragrant Coins with Spinsoa in Loamm. The exchange ratio is 1:1 (one coin = one bauble). To buy the Igneous Shalewing you will need 400 coins.

Sources of Unearthed Fragrant Coins

Coins drop from the pouches you receive for taking part in the zone events of Zaralek Cavern.

The "Researchers Under Fire" Event

This is the main source of coins. The event takes place every hour in the center of Zaralek Cavern and lasts 25 minutes. The reward depends on the number of objectives completed within the event:

  • Researcher's Gift (3 objectives) — 15 Unearthed Fragrant Coins
  • Researcher's Grateful Gift (6 objectives) — up to 30 coins
  • Researcher's Appreciative Gift (9 objectives) — up to 45 coins
  • Researcher's Obliged Gift (12 objectives) — up to 60 coins

Try to complete as many objectives as possible within the allotted time to earn the maximum reward.

Other Zone Events

In addition to "Researchers Under Fire," coins drop from pouches earned for taking part in the other public events of Zaralek Cavern:

  • Jingling Stained Pouch — contains roughly 6–9 coins
  • Jangling Stained Pouch — contains roughly 3–5 coins

These pouches are awarded for completing the random zone events that appear regularly all across Zaralek Cavern.

Farming Optimization

Daily Plan

  1. Check the timer for the "Researchers Under Fire" event — it starts every hour at the 30-minute mark. Try to take part in every available event
  2. Between events, complete the other zone activities of Zaralek Cavern — every public event rewards a pouch of coins
  3. At the same time, complete world quests for reputation with the Loamm Niffen and for additional rewards
  4. Kill rare enemies — they are marked with stars on the map and may grant additional rewards

How Long It Will Take

With active farming, taking part in several "Researchers Under Fire" events daily and completing zone events in between, you can earn roughly 40–80 coins per day. Accordingly, saving up 400 coins will take approximately 1–2 weeks of active play.

If you log in less frequently, count on 2–3 weeks. The weekly cap on rewards from individual events limits the pace of farming, so spread your activities out evenly over the course of the week.

What Else to Buy from Saccratros

While you are saving up for the Igneous Shalewing, take a look at Saccratros's other goods:

  • Subterranean Magmammoth — a mount for 100 Coveted Baubles. If you want a more affordable mount, start with this one
  • Diamond Carapace — a battle pet for 50 Coveted Baubles

Tips

1

Set your hearthstone to Loamm — this way you can quickly get to Zaralek Cavern to take part in events.

2

Watch the event timer — "Researchers Under Fire" starts every hour at the 30-minute mark. Plan your play sessions around this schedule.

3

Complete as many objectives as possible during the event — the reward for "Researchers Under Fire" depends directly on the number of objectives completed. The more objectives you finish, the more coins you receive.

4

Don't ignore the small events — the zone events between the major ones grant 3–9 coins each. Over a few hours of play this adds up to a noticeable sum.

5

Exchange coins regularly — don't forget to visit Spinsoa and convert Unearthed Fragrant Coins into Coveted Baubles. Coins and baubles are stored in your bag, so keep an eye on free space.

6

Combine your farming — while you earn coins, you also gain reputation with the Loamm Niffen, flight stones, and other useful resources of Zaralek Cavern along the way.

7

The mount is available on all characters — earn the coins on whichever character finds it most convenient to be in Zaralek Cavern. After the purchase, the mount will appear for all your characters.
