Get Illidari Doomhawk mount

Illidari Doomhawk is a steel-gray flying drakehawk mount added to World of Warcraft in patch 9.1.0 (Shadowlands) during the game's 17th anniversary celebration in November 2021. Its appearance reuses the model of an unused black drakehawk that was originally planned back in Wrath of the Lich King but only made it into the game in 2021, tied to the Illidari and the Doomwalker, who ended up in Tanaris because of a rift in time.

The mount drops from the world boss Doomwalker, who patrols near the Caverns of Time in Tanaris every year during the annual "WoW Anniversary celebration" event. If the mount does not drop, you can buy it from the vendor Historian Ma'di for 5,000 Timewarped Badges. The event runs for roughly two weeks every November, so the window for obtaining the mount is limited.

• Unique drakehawk model — the steel-gray coloring with fel-blood accents has no equivalent among the ordinary drakehawks of the Eastern Kingdoms, and the silhouette itself was originally prepared for Wrath of the Lich King and remained unavailable to players for years.
• Flying mount — it supports flight at the maximum speed of your current riding skill, making it a full replacement for any existing aerial transport.
• A 100% chance from 2021 to 2022 — initially the mount was a guaranteed drop from the Doomwalker, but after patch 10.1.7 it moved to a vendor, and in patch 11.0.5 it returned to the boss's loot table, though no longer at a 100% chance.
• Obtainable solo without a raid — you only need to land a single hit on the boss and not die during the fight to earn loot rights. Dozens of players gather around the boss every year, so there is no need to look for a group.
• Account-wide — once obtained, the mount appears in the collection of every character on the account, regardless of faction and class.
• Vendor fallback — if the mount has not dropped over the two weeks of the event, you are guaranteed to get it for the Timewarped Badges you have saved up, so in the worst case you simply have to accumulate the currency.

There are two working ways to obtain the Illidari Doomhawk: farm it from the world boss or buy it from the vendor for anniversary currency. Both methods are available only during the WoW Anniversary celebration, which takes place each year roughly from mid-November to early January.

1. Wait for the start of the WoW Anniversary celebration. The event launches automatically around November 15 and lasts about 2–3 weeks
2. Collect the Anniversary Gift and the "Celebration" package from your mailbox, which grants a bonus to experience and reputation gained
3. Head to Tanaris. The fastest way there is through the portal to the Caverns of Time from Orgrimmar or Stormwind
4. Find the world boss Doomwalker near the entrance to the Caverns of Time at the coordinates /way Tanaris 62 50
5. Land at least one hit or use a beneficial ability on the boss and wait for it to die
6. Check your inventory: with a certain chance, the Illidari Doomhawk will be inside. If it isn't there, come back the next day: the boss can be killed daily
7. In parallel, save up Timewarped Badges through weekly quests and daily anniversary activities
8. If the event is coming to an end and the mount still hasn't dropped, buy it for 5,000 badges from Historian Ma'di at the central anniversary hub in Tanaris

Getting the mount requires minimal preparation — the anniversary event is designed for players of any level, and killing the Doomwalker is done collectively by everyone who happens to be nearby.

• A character at least level 10, with access to the Caverns of Time open and the ability to reach Tanaris
• The "Expert" riding skill (level 30) to use the mount in flight mode. The riding level does not matter for obtaining the item itself
• An active anniversary celebration — check the in-game calendar. If the event is not in the list, the year simply hasn't reached November yet
• Minimal gear — the world boss is not solo content, so no serious equipment is required, but it is advisable to carry a supply of food and potions as a safety net
• Free bag space for the loot that drops: the mount, the Doomwalker Trophy Stand, and weapons and gear from the boss

The world boss Doomwalker appears only during the anniversary celebration and patrols a small circle south of the entrance to the Caverns of Time.

1. Open the map, find the Tanaris zone in Kalimdor, and take the portal to the Caverns of Time from the portal room of your faction's capital
2. After exiting the portal, turn right and head out into the open desert
3. Use the command /way Tanaris 62 50 for precise navigation. A marker will appear on the minimap
4. Look for a huge fel reaver marching in a circle — that is the Doomwalker
5. Wait for a crowd of players to gather: there are usually 10–40 people around the boss, especially in the first days of the event
6. Land a hit or use a beneficial spell and stay away from the pulsing areas on the ground. The boss has the abilities "Crush Armor", "Earthquake", "Enrage", "Lightning Wrath", and "Overrun"
7. After the kill, right-click the loot icon that appears and check its contents

October 2024 hotfix

In October 2024, Blizzard weakened the Doomwalker with a hotfix: it reduced the damage, range, and cooldown of its abilities so that the kill would be less lethal for low-level players. After this change, the boss is killed faster and the chance of random players dying is lower.

Besides the direct drop, the Doomwalker is tied to a weekly quest that rewards currency for buying the mount from the vendor.

The "Smashers of the Time Gates" quest requires killing the Doomwalker, the Sha of Anger, and Archavon the Stone Watcher. It is given by Chromie near the celebration camp in Tanaris. The quest resets every week.

Daily cycle

The world boss can be killed every day on every character on the account. This is the fastest way to increase your chances at the mount.

1. Log in to Tanaris on your main character and kill the boss
2. Switch to your alts and repeat the procedure — each character gets a separate loot roll
3. Complete the weekly Smashers of the Time Gates quest once a week on your main character to accumulate badges

Stockpiling badges in advance

If you have already taken part in anniversaries in past years, check your currency balance in the currency window. Timewarped Badges carry over between events, and many players already have 5,000 or more saved up by the new event — enough for an instant purchase of the mount.

• Daily anniversary quests give 20–50 badges each
• Killing any of the four anniversary world bosses adds badges to your bag
• Open the gift parcel from your mailbox — it contains 200 badges

Farming other rewards in parallel

In a single trip to Tanaris you close out several activities at once:

• Farm the Azure Worldchiller from the Doomwalker (also a rare boss mount in some years)
• Collect the Doomwalker Trophy Stand toy with a guaranteed first-time drop
• Get seasonal attire and weapons with anniversary effects
