Get Ineffable Skitterer mount
Overview

Ineffable Skitterer is a rare ground mount added to World of Warcraft in the Shadowlands expansion (patch 9.2 "Eternity's End"). It is a large tarachnid progenitor in a red-and-black color scheme, created by the First Ones in Zereth Mortis. What sets it apart from the two other spiders of the same series — the
Tarachnid Creeper and the
Genesis Crawler — is its richer coloring and a unique model with glowing leg joints.
The mount is created in the Pocopoc Vault through the "Protoforming" system. To obtain it you will need a rare schematic granted by a ghostly NPC and three crafting reagents. The trickiest part is the hidden quest for the schematic itself: to start it, your character must be dead.
Why you want this mount
- Hidden quest and story — the schematic is not sold and does not drop from a chest. It is granted by the spider spirit Shade of Irik-tu, which is only visible in ghost form. This is one of the most unusual ways to obtain a mount in Shadowlands
- Unique coloring — the red-and-gray tarachnid progenitor model is found only on this mount. No other spider in the game has this coloring
- A full-fledged mount with maximum speed — +60% or +100% to ground movement speed depending on your riding skill
- Account-bound — once crafted, the mount becomes available to all characters on your account, regardless of faction and class
- Part of the "Spiders of Zereth Mortis" collection — together with the
Tarachnid Creeper and the
Genesis Crawler, it completes the trio of mounts created on a single lattice
How to obtain
The path is divided into three stages: unlocking the protoforming system, obtaining the hidden schematic from the spirit, and gathering the reagents for crafting.
- Complete the Zereth Mortis campaign up to unlocking the Cypher of the First Ones console and study the "Dealetic Understanding" and "Soranic Understanding" trees. This will take about 9–12 days of real time given the rate at which cyphers accumulate
- Unlock the Pocopoc Vault through the quest chain that begins with the quest "In Search of Talli" from Firim in Haven's Exile
- Head to Firim's cave in Haven's Exile at coordinates 34.5, 48.7. Let any hostile mob nearby kill you or jump off a cliff to become a ghost
- In spirit form, enter the cave and proceed to the far left corner. There you will see a huge spider soul — the Shade of Irik-tu
- In the dialogue, choose the response "I will leave." The spirit will vanish, and you will receive the quest Schematic Reassimilation: Ineffable Skitterer. Resurrect at the nearest spirit healer
- Turn in the quest at the Pocopoc Vault in the main settlement of Haven. You will receive the
Schematic: Ineffable Skitterer - Gather 500
Genesis Motes, 1
Tarachnid Lattice and 1
Protoform Sentience Crown - Craft the Ineffable Skitterer at the Pocopoc Vault
Reagents and where to get them
Crafting requires three different resources. Genesis Motes are farmed easily, while the Tarachnid Lattice and the Protoform Sentience Crown are rare drops that can take up the bulk of your time.
| Reagent | Quantity | Where to obtain |
|---|---|---|
| Genesis Motes | 500 | Practically all mobs of Zereth Mortis, fishing (skill 35), daily quest rewards, Olea's caches |
| Tarachnid Lattice | 1 | Tarachnids all over Zereth Mortis, Tarachnid Eggs, Olea's caches |
| Protoform Sentience Crown | 1 | Elite "enslaved" mobs (enslaved laborers, worldshapers, runecarvers, jiro), Olea's caches |
How to get the schematic
The hidden NPC Shade of Irik-tu appears only in the Spirit World. To see it and obtain the schematic, follow these steps.
- Make sure the Pocopoc Vault is already unlocked — without it the spirit will not be visible
- Open the map of Haven's Exile and travel to Firim's cave (coordinates 34.5, 48.7)
- Die by any means near the cave. The easiest way is to let an aggressive automa kill you or to throw yourself off a cliff into the surrounding chasms
- In ghost form, return to the cave and enter it. Do not resurrect at a spirit healer and do not use a Soulstone
- Proceed to the farthest point of the cave, keeping to the left wall. In the corner a huge spider spirit will appear — this is the Shade of Irik-tu
- Interact with it and choose "I will leave" in the dialogue. After the line, the spirit will vanish, and the quest Schematic Reassimilation: Ineffable Skitterer will be added to your log
- Resurrect at the nearest spirit healer and turn in the quest at the Pocopoc Vault in Haven. The reward will be the Schematic: Ineffable Skitterer
Common mistakes
- If the Shade of Irik-tu does not appear, check that you have actually completed the chain up to unlocking the Pocopoc Vault. Without it the spirit does not spawn
- The spirit is only visible in ghost form. In living form there is nothing in this spot
- The quest is granted automatically after the dialogue. If it does not appear in your log, open the quest window — sometimes you need to scroll the list
Farming reagents
Genesis Motes
The main material is needed in a quantity of 500. Mobs in Zereth Mortis give from 1 to 5 motes per kill, so with active farming 500 are gathered in 2–3 hours.
- The densest spawns are in the Antecedent Isles and the Endless Sands
- Additional income comes from the daily quests of the The Enlightened faction
- Fishing in the pools of Zereth Mortis (skill 35 required) yields Genesis Motes from most caught fish
- Olea's caches — hidden chests all over the zone — contain stacks of motes
Tarachnid Lattice
Drops only from tarachnid spiders and from treasures associated with them. It is not a rare item, but one copy usually drops within 15–30 minutes of farming.
- Coordinates of a dense spawn: 56.9, 34.1 (a cluster of ordinary tarachnids)
- The Tarachnid Eggs object appears once every few hours and is guaranteed to give 1 lattice
- The rare boss Mother Pestis also has a chance to drop a Tarachnid Lattice
Protoform Sentience Crown
The most troublesome reagent. It drops rarely and only from enslaved mobs and from Olea's caches.
- Main locations: enslaved laborers and worldshapers on the Antecedent Isles (47.4, 12.6)
- An enslaved jiro spawns in the Rift Fissure during the daily event "Critical Condition." On this chain the drop chance is noticeably higher
- Ancient wardens and porters in Bloomering Foundry (Unbound Verdure) are an alternative source, but require completing the side chain "Enigmatic Verdure"
- Use a group or search the Zereth Mortis discords: active players band together to farm enslaved mobs
Tips
Start with the crown — this is the tightest bottleneck of the craft. While you farm the Protoform Sentience Crown, the Genesis Motes will accumulate on their own
Bring a second character — the crown is bound to the party, so you can farm it on one alt and pass it to your main
Check the list of daily quests — when the "Critical Condition" quest is active, the chance for the crown from the enslaved jiro is noticeably higher
Don't skip Olea's caches — they may simultaneously hold motes, a lattice and a crown. A route through the caches is available in the HandyNotes addon for Zereth Mortis
Be careful in Firim's cave — after death, do not accept automatic resurrection if it is offered. Otherwise you will have to die again
Keep the schematic until the end of the campaign — if you have not yet finished unlocking the Pocopoc Vault, the schematic will simply remain in your inventory and activate when you turn in the quest later
Buy missing materials at the auction house — the Tarachnid Lattice and the Protoform Sentience Crown are sold, though the price for the crown can be high. This is a legitimate way to save hours of farming
Collect the whole spider series at once — the Tarachnid Lattice is needed for both the Tarachnid Creeper and the Genesis Crawler. One trip for schematics and reagents closes out all three mounts at once
