Overview

Iron Reins of the Bloodthirsty War Wyrm

Game iconIron Reins of the Bloodthirsty War Wyrm is an epic ground and flying mount added in patch 7.2 of the Legion expansion. It is the Warrior class mount, depicting an armored proto-dragon. The mount is awarded for completing the quest The Trial of Rage — the final scenario of the Warrior class quest chain on the Broken Shore.

The mount's unique feature is that it changes color depending on the character's current specialization. Warriors in the Arms specialization ride a red proto-dragon, Fury rides a black one, and Protection a purple one. Changing specialization instantly changes the mount's color.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Guaranteed acquisition — the mount is a quest reward, not a random drop. Once you meet all the conditions, the mount is yours
  • Three colors in one — the mount changes color based on the Warrior's specialization: red for Arms, black for Fury, and purple for Protection
  • Unique model — an armored proto-dragon with an impressive flight animation. In the mount journal it is described as a beast that "also responds to 'Mr. Bitey'"
  • Ground and flying — the mount works both on the ground and in the air, providing maximum movement speed depending on your riding skill
  • Available to all Warriors on the account — once obtained, the mount becomes available to all Warrior characters on your account

How to Obtain

To get the mount, you must complete the Legion campaign quest chain on the Broken Shore, finishing it with the class scenario.

  1. Create or prepare a Warrior class character (the mount is available only to Warriors)
  2. Complete the Warrior class hall campaign in Skyhold
  3. Complete the Legion campaign on the Broken Shore and earn the Breaching the Tomb achievement
  4. Accept the quest A Godly Invitation on the Broken Shore
  5. Travel to Skyhold and speak with Odyn
  6. Accept and complete the quest The Trial of Rage — a scenario with four consecutive duels
  7. Return to Odyn and receive the Iron Reins of the Bloodthirsty War Wyrm

The "Breaching the Tomb" Achievement

The Breaching the Tomb achievement is a mandatory requirement for obtaining the class mount of any class in Legion. It requires completing the full Legion campaign on the Broken Shore.

Main Campaign Stages

  • Armies of Legionfall — the start of the campaign on the Broken Shore
  • Begin Construction — erecting the first building
  • The Skies of Argus — completing quests in the invasion zone
  • Champions of Legionfall — recruiting a new champion for the class hall
  • The Sentinax — gathering resources beneath the Legion ship
  • Intolerable Infestation — clearing the area of demons
  • Behead the Enemy — eliminating key Legion commanders
  • Strike Them Down — completing additional quests
  • Assault on Broken Shore — taking part in the invasion
  • Shards of Time — the final stage of the campaign

At the current maximum level (90 in Midnight), the entire campaign goes by much faster than in the original Legion, since the enemies pose no threat.

The "Trial of Rage" Scenario

The scenario consists of four consecutive duels in an arena in the Halls of Valor. You fight one on one against each opponent.

Stage 1: Damrul the Stronk

The first opponent is Damrul the Stronk, a drogbar. He uses the abilities Frenzy, Drogbar Idol, and Thunderclap. Dodge the electrified patches of ground and interrupt the totem placements.

Stage 2: Omanawkwa Steelhoof

Omanawkwa Steelhoof is a tauren warrior. He uses Shield Slam, Shield Throw, and summons ancestral spirits. Dodge his telegraphed attacks and use slows when he returns to his shield.

Stage 3: Asrea Moonblade

Asrea Moonblade is a night elf. She uses Blitz, Colossus Smash, and Whirlwind Storm. Avoid the moving whirlwinds. During her Whirlwind Storm, retreat to the edges of the arena using Heroic Leap.

Stage 4: Aspirant Thyri

Aspirant Thyri is a val'kyr vrykul. She uses Avatar of Eyir and Path of Eyir. Step out of the Avatar's radius and avoid the stationary whirlwind zones.

Tips for the Scenario

  • At max level (90), all four opponents pose no serious threat and are defeated within seconds
  • If you are running the scenario at level 45–50, use defensive abilities and don't stand in damage zones
  • Health is restored between duels, so each fight can be treated as a separate trial

Optimizing the Process

For High-Level Characters (90)

  1. Enable the Legion timeline through Chromie in Stormwind or Orgrimmar (if the character is below level 50, the Chromie system activates automatically)
  2. Travel to Dalaran (Broken Isles) and begin the class hall campaign
  3. Complete the main Warrior class hall storyline in Skyhold
  4. Move on to the Broken Shore campaign and earn the "Breaching the Tomb" achievement
  5. Accept "A Godly Invitation" and complete "The Trial of Rage"

At level 90, all Legion content is cleared extremely quickly, since the enemies are far weaker than your character.

For Low-Level Characters (45–50)

If you want to obtain the mount on a low-level character, keep in mind that the Legion campaign will take more time. The "Trial of Rage" scenario may pose a certain challenge — use consumables (potions, food) to make the fights easier.

Tips

1

Warriors only — this mount is available exclusively to the Warrior class. Characters of other classes cannot start the quest chain or use this mount

2

Class hall campaign required — before starting the Broken Shore campaign, you must complete the main Warrior class hall storyline in Skyhold

3

Achievement per character — "Breaching the Tomb" must be earned on the character on which you want to complete the mount quest

4

Use the Jump to Skyhold — the teleport ability to the class hall saves time when moving between the Broken Shore and Skyhold

5

Changing color is free — simply switch your specialization to change the mount's color. This can be done in any rest zone

6

Related mount — there is a visually similar mount, inv_warriormount_felIron Reins of the Felscorned War Wyrm, which uses the same model in a different color

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
