Keys to the Model W

Keys to the Model W is a legendary ground mount added in patch 8.2 "Rise of Azshara" of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. The Mechacycle Model W is a shiny bronze monocycle — a single-wheeled motorcycle created by Mimiron's descendants on the island of Mechagon. Your character balances atop a huge mechanical wheel, creating a striking visual effect while riding.

The mount is the reward for the Mecha-Done meta-achievement, which requires completing a series of sub-achievements tied to the island of Mechagon. It is one of the most labor-intensive mounts in the game — according to statistics, only about 4% of players own it.

• Rarity and prestige — only 4% of players own the Mechacycle Model W. It is a mount that shows you have thoroughly explored all of Mechagon's content.
• A unique model — this is one of the few monocycles in the game. Your character rides balanced on a single huge wheel, which looks unusual and draws attention.
• Guaranteed acquisition — unlike the Junkheap Drifter, which drops from Rustfeather at a low chance, the Mechacycle Model W is guaranteed once you complete the achievement.
• Available to all characters — once obtained, the mount becomes available on every character of your account.
• Dozens of hours of content — the path to the mount takes you through every activity on the island: quests, crafting, rare mobs, daily tasks, and secrets. You will get to know Mechagon inside and out.

To get the mount, you need to complete the Mecha-Done meta-achievement. This is an umbrella achievement that bundles together a series of Mechagon sub-achievements.

1. Unlock access to the island of Mechagon by completing the Nazjatar introductory quest chain in patch 8.2.0.
2. Reach Rustbolt — the main hub on the island.
3. Complete Mechagon's main storyline.
4. Sequentially complete all sub-achievements of the "Mecha-Done" meta-achievement.
5. After completing the final sub-achievement, you will automatically receive the Keys to the Model W — the item that teaches the mount.

The island of Mechagon is a hidden gnomish island located north of Kul Tiras. To reach it, you must complete an introductory quest chain.

First Visit

1. Make sure your character has reached level 50 (or use the Chromie system for scaling)
2. Start the Nazjatar introductory quest chain: "The Wolf's Advance" (Alliance) or "The Warchief's Order" (Horde) — the quest appears automatically in your faction's capital
3. Complete the first Nazjatar quests and unlock world quests
4. After that, a quest chain leading to Mechagon becomes available: look for a quest from Tinkmaster Zarkrush (Horde) or Kelsey Steelspark (Alliance)
5. Follow the chain — you will be ferried to the island

Quick Access (After Unlocking)

After your first visit to the island, a permanent route opens up:

1. Use the flight point to Mechagon (unlocked upon arrival)
2. Or take the portal from Boralus (Alliance) or Dazar'alor (Horde)
3. Rustbolt is the main hub on the island, where all the key NPCs are located

The meta-achievement consists of several sub-achievements. Below is a detailed description of each of them.

Menace of Mechagon

Complete the main storyline of the island of Mechagon. This is a linear quest chain that introduces you to Rustbolt, Pascal-K1N6, Prince Erazmin, and the island's central conflict. The story tells of the struggle between the mechagnomes and King Mechagon, who is obsessed with the idea of turning all living beings into machines.

Tip: Completed in a single run. Just follow the quest chain — it will take you across the entire island.

Outside Influences

Complete 15 daily quests from Mechagon's visitors (the requirement was reduced from 32 in patch 10.2.5). Each day, one random visitor appears on the island offering a unique daily quest.

Tip: Visit the island every day to check for a new visitor. Visitor quests are marked with special markers on the map. Completing the achievement will take at least 15 days.

Aspiring Tinkerer

Craft items through the "Junkyard Tinkering" system at Pascal-K1N6 in Rustbolt. Crafting requires blueprints and materials: spare parts, energy cells, and special components.

Tip: Collect spare parts on every visit to the island — they drop from mobs, chests, and containers. Craft everything you can to build up the required amount.

Available in Eight Colors

Collect all the paints for the Mechano-Cat Model X-995. You will need to find 8 vials of paint scattered across the island to recolor your mechanical cat into different colors.

Tip: First obtain the Mechano-Cat itself — this requires the "Mechano-Cat Laser Pointer" blueprint from Junkyard Tinkering. The paints drop from certain rare mobs, from chests, and as quest rewards. Check guides for the specific locations of each vial.

Just Wing It

Complete a series of special encounters on the island of Mechagon. These are fights against specific rare enemies, each with its own unique mechanic.

Tip: Some rare mobs only appear on certain days or under certain conditions. Track their spawns and team up with other players to kill them — many of these mobs are quite strong.

Cleverest of the Clever

Unlock 30 Junkyard Tinkering blueprints (the requirement was reduced in patch 10.2.5). Blueprints come from various sources: quests, rare mobs, chests, and reputation with Rustbolt.

Tip: Some blueprints drop from specific rare mobs — make a list of the missing ones and farm the necessary enemies deliberately. Reputation blueprints are purchased from a vendor in Rustbolt as your reputation increases.

Builder of the Future

Complete 100 construction projects in Mechagon. Projects are daily building tasks for various devices on the island.

Tip: This is one of the longest sub-achievements. Complete construction tasks every day without missing any. Note that projects are only available once per day.

Spare Parts, I'll Make Good Use of You

Unlock the gramophone in Rustbolt and all of its music records. The records are collected from various sources across the island.

Tip: Some records drop from specific rare mobs, some can be crafted, and some are found in chests. Make a list of the missing ones and search for them deliberately.

Armed and Ready

Create 5 weapons in Rustbolt. Each weapon requires specific blueprints and materials.

Tip: Weapon blueprints are obtained from various sources. Make sure you have enough spare parts and special components before crafting.

Daily Plan

At max level (80 in The War Within), all of Mechagon's content is completed quickly. The optimal daily order of operations:

1. Fly to Mechagon and check who today's visitor is — complete their quest for the "Outside Influences" achievement.
2. Complete the available construction project for the "Aspiring Tinkerer" achievement.
3. Kill all available rare mobs — they are marked with stars on the minimap. They drop blueprints, paints, and music records.
4. Open every chest you come across — they contain spare parts, blueprints, and other valuable items.
5. Craft the available items at Pascal-K1N6 for the "Aspiring Tinkerer" achievement.
6. Check the reputation vendor — new blueprints may be available.

How Long It Will Take

With daily active play, completing the "Mecha-Done" meta-achievement takes approximately 3–6 weeks. The main slowing factors:

• Visitors — the rotation of daily visitors means you need at least 15 days for 15 unique quests.
• Construction projects — 100 projects at one per day means at least 100 days, but projects count from alternate characters and are completed faster.
• Rare mobs — some appear only under certain conditions, which adds an element of randomness.
• Blueprints — individual blueprints have a low drop chance.

Tips for Speeding Up

• Group up — team up with other players through group finder. In a group it is faster to kill rare mobs and easier to track their appearance.
• RareScanner addon — install the addon to track rare mobs and chests. It will alert you when a needed mob appears nearby.
• Daily check-ins — even if you have little time, stop by the island for at least 10 minutes to complete the daily visitor quest and construction project.
• Wowhead tracker — use the achievement tracker on Wowhead to see which specific elements you still need.

There is another monocycle with a similar model on the island of Mechagon:

• Rusted Keys to the Junkheap Drifter — a rusty version of the monocycle that drops from the rare mob Rustfeather at a low chance. If you like the model but don't want to complete the entire meta-achievement, you can try farming Rustfeather.
