Knife of Incision is an epic one-handed dagger added to World of Warcraft in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion alongside the opening of the revamped Naxxramas raid. It is a short blade with a massive serrated hilt and a slightly curved edge in the spirit of old Stratholme — a model from the iconic inv_knife_1h_stratholme_d_01 family that visually echoes the weapons of the Scourge.
The dagger occupies the main-hand or off-hand slot and suits classes that use daggers: rogues, shamans, mages, warlocks, priests, and demon hunters. Its in-game item level is 200 (the 10-player Heroic version of the raid), and its quality is epic. For transmogrification, the model itself matters rather than the stats, so the item is valuable first and foremost as a rare raid appearance from the Lich King era.

The Knife of Incision drops from the Gluth encounter — the third boss of the Construct Quarter in the Naxxramas raid (Wrath of the Lich King, patch 3.0). Gluth is a giant undead scavenger, the former "pet" of Patchwerk, and his fight takes place in the lower hall of the quarter.

Naxxramas is reachable through the direct dungeon portal in any capital city or by flying to the Eastern Plaguelands — the raid floats above the ground near the revamped Light's Hope Chapel area. There are no quest prerequisites for entry; all you need is level 80 and switching the difficulty to "10 Heroic" in the group window.
Who it suits visually
- It pairs with dark plate and leather sets from Wrath of the Lich King — for example, with the T7 and T8 tiers for a rogue.
- It harmonizes with weapons and sets themed around the Scourge and Stratholme — a shared palette of rust, gray metal, and a dirty-steel tint.
- It suits the looks of mercenaries, undead hunters, and dark assassins: the short blade looks "working" rather than ceremonial.
- It contrasts strikingly when paired with a bright-green or magical weapon in the off-hand — the classic "mismatched-set" trick for rogue looks.
- It is not suited to light paladin or priest sets — the model is too brutal and grounded.
Tips
Enter the raid in the 10-player Heroic version: this is the one that drops the item-level 200 version, which is most often recorded in transmog samples.
Soloing the Construct Quarter is comfortable on a character of level 80 and above; no special tactics on Gluth are required in solo — the damage he deals is negligible against current armor.
Access is limited to one kill per week per character, so it makes sense to farm on several alts at once — this speeds up obtaining the desired appearance many times over.
Gluth's full loot table contains several epic items, so even without the dagger dropping, the run brings a chance at other appearances and undead consumables.
Don't forget to enable personal loot mode and confirm the "10 Heroic" difficulty — on normal difficulty the item version is a different level, and not all databases register it as the same appearance.
If the dagger dropped but the appearance did not unlock — check that the item was accepted into your inventory and equipped at least once: sometimes the transmog registers only after wearing it, not when picking up the loot.
