Wild Hunt Gormling
Overview

Wild Hunt Gormling is an epic ground mount added in patch 9.1 "Chains of Domination" of the Shadowlands expansion. It is an insect-like creature from Ardenweald. The mount drops from the
Wild Hunt Trophy Cache with a chance of about 4%.
Gormlings are predatory insect-like creatures that inhabit the forests of Ardenweald. The Wild Hunt tamed these creatures and adapted them for combat.
Why you want this mount
- Unique model — the gormling stands out among most mounts in the game. It is a large arthropod creature with distinctive mandibles and Wild Hunt armor. There are few similar mounts in any collection
- Available to any covenant — despite being tied to the Night Fae assault, the mount drops regardless of your covenant. You do not need to belong to the Night Fae to obtain it
- Account-bound — once learned, the mount becomes available to all characters on your account
- Ground mount — the Wild Hunt Gormling is a ground mount. Its movement speed depends on your riding skill
How to obtain
The mount drops from the
Wild Hunt Trophy Cache, which you receive for completing the Night Fae assault in the Maw. The drop chance is approximately 4% (based on 33,000+ recorded openings on Wowhead).
Step-by-step guide
- Make sure your character has reached level 60 and has access to Korthia. To do this, you must complete the initial Shadowlands campaign and unlock patch 9.1
- Wait for the Night Fae assault rotation. Covenant assaults in the Maw rotate every 3.5 days. The Night Fae assault occurs once every two weeks
- Pick up the Night Fae Assault quest from Highlord Bolvar Fordragon in Korthia (coordinates 62, 24)
- Head to the Maw (coordinates 22, 43) and speak with Lord Herne to begin the assault
- Complete the four objectives at the front line: gathering resources, freeing prisoners, a stealth infiltration with Lady Moonberry, and the final battle
- Turn in the final quest and receive the
Wild Hunt Trophy Cache - Open the cache — with a chance of about 4%, the
Legsplitter War Harness will be inside - Use the item to learn the mount
Assault schedule
Covenant assaults in the Maw rotate on a fixed schedule. Every 3.5 days, one assault gives way to another. Four covenants participate in the rotation: Kyrian, Necrolords, Night Fae, and Venthyr.
The Night Fae assault appears roughly once every two weeks. On EU realms, the rotation happens on Wednesdays at 09:00 CET and Saturdays at 20:00 CET. On US realms — on Tuesdays at 08:00 PDT and Fridays at 20:00 PDT.
Farming optimization
Multiple characters
The most effective way to increase your chances is to complete the assault on multiple level 90 characters. Each character receives their own cache, and the mount's drop chance is calculated separately for each. With ten characters, you open ten caches per assault, which significantly reduces the average farming time.
Preparing characters
To participate in the assaults, it is enough to complete the Shadowlands campaign up to the point of unlocking Korthia. A character does not need high-end gear — the assault objectives do not require a high item level.
Completion speed
Completing a single assault takes about 15–25 minutes. The stealth infiltration section with Lady Moonberry may take longer on your first run, but it speeds up with experience.
Expected number of attempts
With a drop chance of ~4%, the mathematical expectation is 25 cache openings. However, due to randomness, some players received the mount on their first attempt, while others took 100+ openings. If you complete the assault on a single character, you will need about 25 rotations (roughly a year). On five characters — about 5 rotations (2–3 months).
Tips
Don't tie yourself to one character — the assault is available to any level 60 character regardless of covenant. Complete it on as many alts as possible to increase your chances
Watch the schedule — the Night Fae assault appears once every two weeks. Missing it means losing an attempt for a full 14 days. Set a reminder in your calendar or use an addon to track it
Don't discard the cache — open it immediately after receiving it. The mount item is inside the cache and will not appear in your mailbox
Stealth section — during the quest with Lady Moonberry, move carefully and rescue the captive NPCs in the correct order. If you are detected, you will be sent back to the start of the area
Current relevance — Shadowlands content is accessible at level 60 through the Chromie Time system. In Midnight and later expansions, you can still return to Korthia and complete the assaults
