Lightborn Spire — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Lightborn Spire is an epic two-handed mace from the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. It has a tall head with a twisting gold-and-silver spiral and a glowing crystal at the tip, styled in the bright "holy" palette of the Silver Vanguard — it looks more like a ritual scepter than a bludgeoning weapon.
The mace grants Agility and Stamina, so within the set it was a leveling weapon for druids and shamans who can't wield swords. For transmogrification, stats and class don't matter: the appearance is available to anyone who can equip two-handed maces.
The Lightborn Spire is one of the rewards for reforging the legendary blade Quel'Delar. Those whose classes don't use swords receive, instead of Quel'Delar itself, a choice of one of three maces — and this bright spire is the most recognizable of them.
Source
The Lightborn Spire is granted as the reward for the final quest of the Quel'Delar chain at the Argent Tournament Grounds in Icecrown. The chain is long, so let's break it down step by step.
- It all starts with the item
Battered Hilt — it has a small chance to drop from regular enemies in three dungeons of Icecrown Citadel: The Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron, and Halls of Reflection (in both Normal and Heroic modes). - The hilt begins the chain to restore the blade: it must be "tempered" and reassembled into a full Quel'Delar by running those same dungeons.
- The finished blade is taken to the Argent Tournament Grounds. The chain is completed by Justicar Mariel Trueheart.
- The final quest depends on faction: for the Alliance it is A Victory For The Silver Covenant, and for the Horde it is A Victory For The Sunreavers.
- If your class doesn't wield swords, the reward is granted as a mace chosen from three options — the Lightborn Spire is among them.
The Battered Hilt can be freely bought and sold, so you can start the chain through the auction house without farming the hilt yourself. Quel'Delar itself and the reward maces become soulbound, so the character who wants the appearance must complete the chain to the end.
Who It Suits Visually
- Pairs well with "holy" plate sets in white-and-gold tones — for example, the paladin and priest sets of the Silver Vanguard and the Argent Crusade.
- Harmonizes with holy- and Argent-themed looks: the glowing crystal of the head echoes the bright tones of the armor.
- Looks great on Restoration druid and shaman builds in bright gear, the kind the mace was originally intended for.
- A contrasting choice for dark sets: the bright head stands out sharply against black or purple armor.
Tips
The biggest bottleneck of the chain is the drop of the
Battered Hilt; the chance is low, so it's easier to buy it on the auction house than to farm it yourself.
All three dungeons of the chain are located close together in Icecrown — The Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron, and Halls of Reflection — so you can gather the needed steps in a single run.
The appearance is granted only to classes that don't wield swords; sword users receive Quel'Delar itself rather than a mace, so go after the Lightborn Spire on a druid, priest, or shaman.
The reward is soulbound on pickup — complete the final quest on the character who needs the appearance.
On a single run of the chain you can choose only one mace out of three, so plan for repeat runs to complete the full collection.
The chain's content has long been soloable: the Icecrown dungeons are easily cleared alone at the current level.
