Overview

Light's Wrath

Game iconLight's Wrath is a two-handed staff, the artifact weapon of the Discipline priest, introduced in the Legion expansion. It is an elongated glowing scepter crowned with an open book and a hovering crystal: the weapon embodies the idea of Discipline as a balance between attack and defense, where healing allies is born from damaging enemies.

Unlike ordinary weapons, the artifact cannot simply be pulled from a chest — the staff is granted during the priest class campaign and grows alongside the character. For transmog collectors, the value of Light's Wrath lies in its appearance system: a single model unfolds into five separate look families, each with several color variants. Collecting them all is a notable goal for those dressing a priest in a light-bearing theme.

Source

Light's Wrath is granted during the priest class campaign. Over the campaign the character chooses which of the three artifacts to receive, and selecting Discipline launches a separate quest chain.

  • The chain begins with Alonsus Faol — the priests' mentor and the first step toward the artifact.
  • The path then leads to Dalaran, where Archmage Kalec hands out the task.
  • The decisive stage is the quest The Light's Wrath: through a portal from the Hall of the Guardian the character arrives at The Nexus Vault, where the staff hovers above a platform.
  • On interacting, the weapon begins to pour Righteous Fury into the hero: you must withstand 30 seconds of an uninterrupted channel, all the while protecting and healing yourself from the damage the staff deals.
  • After the bright light subsides, the artifact becomes yours, and the quest is turned back in to Archmage Kalec.

After being obtained, the staff develops in the Hall of Discipline — the priests' class order hall, the Netherlight Temple, where further appearances and upgrades unlock.

Who It Suits Visually

  • Fits light-bearing priest sets — the staff harmonizes with the gold and cream tones of holy vestment ensembles.
  • Pairs with dark-purple and shadowy sets through the hidden look's tints, where the model takes on cool shades.
  • Contrasts with plate and mail looks — this is clearly a cloth, magical weapon, and on a warrior or paladin it looks out of place.
  • Suits concepts themed around books, knowledge, and archives: the hovering open book at the crown directly evokes the image of a scholar-priest.
  • Nicely completes a character's look in a light palette when you need a tall vertical silhouette of a two-handed weapon on the back.

Tips

1

Artifact weapon appearances are tied to specialization: Light's Wrath unlocks and is worn only in the Discipline specialization.

2

Base color tints unlock gradually as your artifact knowledge level grows and you complete related tasks, so some of them are gathered during normal play.

3

The Valorous appearance requires completing the artifact empowerment storyline, which begins with the quest The Power Within and relies on reputation with the Broken Isles factions.

4

The hidden appearance is unlocked by the item inv_staff_2h_artifacttome_d_04Writings of the End: it is given out by Archivist Inkforge in the Netherlight Temple.

5

To obtain the Writings, you need to collect 12 volumes of inv_artifact_tome02The Annals of Light and Shadow, scattered across dungeons, zones, and rare enemies all over the world.

6

Archivist Inkforge hands out the first volume only at artifact knowledge level 4 or higher, so it makes sense to begin collecting on a developed character.

7

The volumes have respawn timers, and some of them drop from rare enemies, so gathering all twelve stretches across several runs.

8

Since Legion is long finished, the whole chain and the volume collection can today be completed solo without group help.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
