Overview

Mail Muncher

Game iconMail Muncher is an epic flying mount in the form of an N'Zoth serpent, added in patch 8.3 of the Battle for Azeroth expansion. The mount drops from the rare enemy of the same name, the Mail Muncher, which can be summoned by interacting with broken mailboxes in the Horrific Visions of Stormwind and Orgrimmar. Starting with patch 11.1.5 of The War Within, the Horrific Visions have returned in an updated format — Horrific Visions: Revisited — allowing you to run them an unlimited number of times.

Visually, the mount is a dark purple cloud serpent with tentacles, covered in Void symbolism. When you use the /mountspecial command, the mount performs a unique animation.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Unique model — Mail Muncher boasts a one-of-a-kind design styled after the Old God N'Zoth. A cloud serpent with tentacles and a dark aura stands out among other mounts
  • Flying mount — works both on the ground and in the air, making it a versatile means of transport
  • Unlimited farming — thanks to Horrific Visions: Revisited in patch 11.1.5, you can enter the visions as many times as you want, with no limit on attempts
  • Available to all characters — once obtained, the mount becomes available on every character on your account
  • No masks required — you don't need to activate difficulty masks to summon the rare enemy. Simply entering the vision at the base level is enough

Requirements

  • A level 90 character (recommended for a comfortable run)
  • Access to Horrific Visions: Revisited (patch 11.1.5 and later)
  • The completed introductory quest chain from Soridormi in Dornogal

How to Get into Horrific Visions: Revisited

In patch 11.1.5, the Horrific Visions were reworked and are accessible through a special portal in Dornogal.

  1. Head to Dornogal on the Isle of Dorn
  2. Find Researcher Onerma in the Hall of Foundations and pick up the starting quest "In Search of Past Knowledge"
  3. Follow the quest chain — it will lead you to Soridormi near Surekeep
  4. After completing the introductory tasks, use the portal on the southern edge of Surekeep to enter the visions
/way Dornogal 34.59 69.07 Portal to Horrific Visions

After you complete the introductory quest chain, entry into the Horrific Visions becomes unlimited.

Mailbox Locations

Each vision contains five broken mailboxes — one in each district. Interacting with any of them has roughly a 2% chance to summon the rare enemy Mail Muncher.

Horrific Vision of Orgrimmar

/way Orgrimmar 52.6 76.0 Mailbox — Valley of Strength /way Orgrimmar 60.0 51.8 Mailbox — The Drag /way Orgrimmar 67.8 39.2 Mailbox — Valley of Honor /way Orgrimmar 39.6 48.4 Mailbox — Valley of Wisdom /way Orgrimmar 40.0 78.4 Mailbox — Valley of Spirits

Horrific Vision of Stormwind

/way Stormwind 55.0 57.0 Mailbox — Cathedral Square /way Stormwind 62.8 31.4 Mailbox — Dwarven District /way Stormwind 75.6 64.2 Mailbox — Old Town /way Stormwind 61.8 75.6 Mailbox — Trade District /way Stormwind 50.2 86.6 Mailbox — Mage Quarter

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Complete the introductory quest chain from Soridormi in Dornogal if you haven't done so yet
  2. Enter a Horrific Vision through the portal at Surekeep. Choose the Vision of Stormwind or Orgrimmar — there are mailboxes in both
  3. Move through the vision's zones and look for broken mailboxes. They appear as damaged, slightly glowing objects
  4. Right-click each mailbox you find. There is roughly a 2% chance the rare enemy Mail Muncher will appear from it
  5. If Mail Muncher appears, kill it. The enemy has low health and no complex mechanics. At level 90 the fight takes a few seconds
  6. Collect the mount from the enemy's corpse. The item drops with a guaranteed 100% chance and is available immediately — there is no need to wait until the vision ends
  7. If Mail Muncher didn't appear from any of the mailboxes, leave the vision and re-enter. Repeat until you get the mount

Farming Optimization

Choosing a Vision

Both visions — Stormwind and Orgrimmar — contain five mailboxes each. Choose the one you find easier to navigate. Many players prefer the Vision of Stormwind, as its layout is more compact.

Route

Plan an optimal route that passes through all five mailboxes in the least amount of time. You don't need to clear the zones completely — just run up to a mailbox, click it, and move on to the next.

HandyNotes Addon

Install the HandyNotes addon with the Visions of N'Zoth plugin. It marks all the mailboxes on the minimap, which significantly speeds up the search.

Clear Speed

At level 90, the enemies in the visions pose no threat. Use movement-speed abilities to travel faster between mailboxes. One run checking all five mailboxes takes 3-5 minutes.

Farming Math

With a spawn chance of roughly 2% per mailbox and five mailboxes per run, the chance of seeing Mail Muncher at least once per run is about 10%. Statistically, you'll need around 10 runs (50 mailboxes) to get the mount, though luck may require more or fewer attempts.

Tips

1

No masks needed — don't waste time activating difficulty masks. The mailboxes are available at the base level of the vision, and masks only slow the run down

2

Grab the mount right away — unlike most rewards from visions, Mail Muncher drops directly from the enemy's corpse. You don't need to finish the vision or open the chests at the end

3

Group farming — you can run the visions in a group. If Mail Muncher appears, all group members can attempt to get the mount

4

Alternate visions — if one route gets boring, switch to the other vision. The chances are the same in both versions

5

Don't ignore mailboxes in the far zones — all five mailboxes have the same chance to summon Mail Muncher. By skipping a mailbox in a remote district, you reduce your chances by 20% per run

6

Check every mailbox — some mailboxes are located off the main route. Spend the extra 30 seconds to reach each one of them
