Marrowfang
Overview

Marrowfang is a rare flying mount from the Shadowlands expansion, a bony flayedwing creature from Maldraxxus. Marrowfang is the offspring of Marrowsnap, the pet and protector of the boss Amarth the Reaper in The Necrotic Wake dungeon. The mount drops from the dungeon's final boss — Nalthor the Rimebinder — exclusively on Mythic difficulty.
Visually, Marrowfang stands out with its distinctive horns and bony body structure. The mount's model is unique among the flayedwings of Maldraxxus, making it a recognizable and desirable addition to any collection.
Why you want this mount
- Unique model — Marrowfang has distinctive horns that no other flayedwing possesses. It is the only mount with this visual feature
- Flying mount — fully functional both in the air and on the ground. Flight speed matches your riding skill: +150%, +280% or +310% depending on your skill level
- Rarity — the drop chance is less than 1%, so owning the mount is a testament to persistence and luck
- Maldraxxus lore — the mount is directly tied to the story of The Necrotic Wake dungeon and the characters Marrowsnap and Amarth the Reaper, giving it added collector value
- Farm accessibility — the dungeon is easily soloed at level 80, making weekly attempts minimal in time investment
How to obtain
The mount drops from the final boss of The Necrotic Wake dungeon — Nalthor the Rimebinder. It is available only on Mythic difficulty.
- Make sure your character has reached level 90 and has a riding skill
- Travel to the entrance of The Necrotic Wake dungeon in Bastion
- Set the dungeon difficulty to "Mythic" (right-click your portrait, "Dungeon Difficulty", "Mythic")
- Clear the dungeon, defeating all four bosses: Blightbone, Amarth the Reaper, Surgeon Stitchflesh and Nalthor the Rimebinder
- After defeating Nalthor, check the loot —
Marrowfang's Reins may be among the trophies
At level 90 in Midnight, the dungeon can be soloed in 5-8 minutes. All bosses die within seconds.
How to reach the dungeon

Lockout and repeat attempts
- Mythic 0 — one attempt per week per character. The lockout resets every Tuesday (EU) or Wednesday (US)
- Mythic+ — if the dungeon is in the current Mythic+ rotation, you can run it an unlimited number of times. The mount drops from the reward chest at the end of the run
- Multiple characters — create alternate level 90 characters and run the dungeon every week on each of them. This multiplies the number of attempts
Clear speed
- At level 90 with current-season gear, the dungeon takes 5–8 minutes
- Use movement-speed abilities between bosses
- You can skip some of the trash mobs, but certain mob packs block the path and must be killed
- Highly mobile classes (Demon Hunter, Druid, Monk) clear the dungeon faster than others
"Collector's Bounty" event
During the special in-game Collector's Bounty event, the drop chance of rare mounts from dungeons is temporarily increased. Keep an eye on the in-game event calendar and use these periods for more efficient farming.
Tips
Check the dungeon rotation — if The Necrotic Wake is in the current Mythic+ season rotation, you can farm the mount with no limit on the number of attempts. This significantly speeds up the process
Use alternate characters — when farming weekly on Mythic 0, every additional level 80 character is one more attempt per week. Five characters give five attempts instead of one
Be prepared for a long farm — with a drop chance below 1%, it takes on average 100 to 200 attempts. Don't despair if the mount doesn't drop in the first few weeks
Kill all bosses — you cannot skip the previous bosses and go straight to Nalthor. The dungeon is linear, and all bosses are mandatory
Solo runs are safer — when playing alone, Nalthor does not use the ability "Dark Exile", which removes the risk of dying in a separate phase of the fight
Watch for events — during the Collector's Bounty event, the drop chance is increased. Plan your main farming for these periods
Install an attempt-tracking addon — the Rarity addon keeps a count of attempts to obtain rare items and shows statistics, helping you track progress
Don't forget to reset the dungeon — after clearing on Mythic 0, leave the dungeon, right-click your portrait and select "Reset all instances". On Mythic this won't allow re-entry until the next week, but it guarantees a correct reset for the next lockout
