Overview

Marzan's Dancing Twin-Scythe

Marzan's Dancing Twin-Scythe is an epic two-handed polearm added in Shadowlands together with the Zereth Mortis zone in patch 9.2. It is a double scythe: two curved, sickle-shaped blades are fixed to the shaft, all kept in the grim aesthetic of the Maw's servants — dark metal with a cold glow.

The weapon uses the agility stat, but what matters most to a collector is the silhouette. The twin scythes look like the weapon of a necromancer or reaper, so the appearance shines first and foremost in "afterlife" and "death" themed looks.

Among polearms, this is one of the few appearances with a true double scythe, which makes it a recognizable choice for themed sets.

Source

The polearm drops from the rare enemy Reanimatrox Marzan — a necromancer of the Maw who appears in the Zereth Mortis zone.

  • This is not an ordinary mob but a rare elite enemy: it spawns at its point on a respawn timer, so sometimes you have to wait or come back later.
  • The scythe drop chance is about 3.3%, so be ready for several kills in a row.
  • The item is bound on pickup, and you can only loot it for yourself.
  • There is no time limit: you can kill Reanimatrox Marzan and recheck the drop every time it appears.
  • Shadowlands is outdated content, so the rare enemy is easy to kill solo at max level.

Alternatives / recolors

Marzan's scythes have no in-game recolors — this is a unique model from a rare drop. However, it is easy to pick polearm scythes with a similar silhouette:

Appearance Type / source Wowhead
Scythe of the Unmaker Polearm scythe, Legion Game iconitem=153115
Felscorned Scythe of the Unmaker Scythe recolor, Legion Game iconitem=253200

The closest in shape is the Game iconScythe of the Unmaker, a massive polearm scythe originating from Legion. If you want a more "corrupted" tint of the same silhouette, its Game iconFelscorned Scythe of the Unmaker variant will do.

Who it suits visually

  • Perfect for reaper and necromancer looks — the double scythe directly references the theme of death.
  • It harmonizes with dark armor in the cold blue-purple palette of the Maw's servants.
  • It supports death knight concepts where a heavy "afterlife" weapon matters.
  • It contrasts with light plate armor, turning the look into something grim and menacing.
  • It looks great with animated glow effects on armor — the blades support the otherworldly presentation.

Tips

1

Before farming, check whether Reanimatrox Marzan is alive: if the rare enemy has already been killed, you will have to wait for its respawn.

2

Plan for several attempts — with a chance of about 3%, the scythes rarely drop on the first kill.

3

Team up with other hunters of the rare enemy: this makes it easier to find and faster to kill on each appearance.

4

The outdated zone is convenient to clear on any class with good mobility — the path to the spawn point takes less than a minute.

5

Once obtained, the appearance is saved to the warband collection and unlocks for all eligible characters on the account.

6

The scythes drop as an agility weapon, but the appearance can be applied by any class that wears polearms.

Got into World of Warcraft back in Legion, when everyone was obsessing over their artifacts. I've tried almost everything but still haven't settled on a main — I play whoever didn't get nerfed this week. I love the lore and digging up the quest details that everyone else just skips past.
