Merciless Gladiator's Decapitator — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Merciless Gladiator's Decapitator is a two-handed axe, a Season 2 arena PvP reward from The Burning Crusade. It has a massive double-sided blade with an aggressive silhouette and the distinctive red-and-steel coloring of that period's gladiator series. This is the classic "merciless" season model, instantly recognizable to arena veterans.
The item is of epic quality. Originally it was a top-tier arena weapon, but by modern standards its combat stats are irrelevant — today the axe is taken purely for its looks. Its rough, brutal shape works well on warriors and death knights.
Although the season itself ended long ago, the appearance isn't lost: Blizzard made the old gladiator looks available through an arsenal set, so you can still collect this transmog today.
Source
The appearance is unlocked not through rating, but through a special appearance set purchased with Marks of Honor.
- The item you need is
Arsenal: Merciless Gladiator's Weapons. When used, it unlocks the appearances of the entire Gladiator's and Merciless Gladiator's weapon set at once, including this axe. - The set is sold for Marks of Honor by the vintage PvP gear vendor in Area 52, in the Nethervoid zone.
- Marks of Honor are farmed in any PvP: battlegrounds, arenas, and War Mode. No rating is required to purchase.
- The purchase is one-time: after applying the arsenal, the entire appearance set becomes available account-wide.
This is legacy content, so there are no level or season restrictions on collecting the appearance — all you need is a stock of Marks of Honor.
Alternatives
The axe belongs to the large TBC arena gladiator weapon series, which has variants close in silhouette.
- The base variant is
Merciless Gladiator's Decapitator itself, unlocked by the
Arsenal: Merciless Gladiator's Weapons set. - The same arsenal also grants the weapon appearances of the regular Season 1 Gladiator — a less saturated coloring of the same set of models.
- Other weapon types in the gladiator series (swords, maces, daggers, polearms) repeat the overall styling and are unlocked by the same set.
- There is no exact equivalent of this model among regular loot — TBC gladiator appearances are obtained only through the arsenal for Marks of Honor.
Who It Suits Visually
- Suits brutal warrior and death knight looks in a red-and-steel palette.
- Harmonizes with aggressively designed plate sets thanks to the massive blade.
- Contrasts with light paladin armor, adding a "dark" accent to the look.
- Fits thematic sets in the style of the arena and TBC gladiator sets.
Tips
No rating is needed — the appearance is collected purely with Marks of Honor, so it's available to any player.
A single arsenal set unlocks the entire TBC gladiator weapon series at once, so you won't have to buy individual items.
Marks of Honor are most convenient to grind in random battlegrounds — that's where they drop most consistently.
Stock up on Marks of Honor in advance: besides weapons, the old gladiator armor of the same seasons is also sold for them.
You can apply the arsenal with a character of any class — the appearance still unlocks account-wide.
For a two-handed axe transmog, any class that wields this weapon type will do: warrior, death knight, paladin.

Got into World of Warcraft back in Legion, when everyone was obsessing over their artifacts. I've tried almost everything but still haven't settled on a main — I play whoever didn't get nerfed this week. I love the lore and digging up the quest details that everyone else just skips past.
