Overview

Merciless Gladiator's Spellblade

Game iconMerciless Gladiator's Spellblade is an epic one-handed dagger, a reward from the 2nd Arena season of The Burning Crusade expansion. It belongs to the caster gear set: bonuses to intellect, stamina and haste make it a natural pick for mages, warlocks, priests, shamans and druids who play around spell damage.

Visually it is a short gladiator blade with a dark metallic edge and distinctive arena engraving on the hilt. The model belongs to the second generation of The Burning Crusade gladiator weapons: the same silhouette as the Season 1 blade, but in a richer, darker color palette. For transmog collectors it is a recognizable "classic" of the early arena-era PvP aesthetic.

Source

The dagger is a PvP reward and, in the current version of the game, is purchased from the legendary vendor of old arena gear.

  • Vendor — Izzee the 'Clutch', "Veteran's and Merciless Gladiator's Gear".
  • Location — Netherstorm, Area 52 camp.
  • Vendor coordinates: /way Netherstorm 33.0 64.2.
  • Currency — Honor Points. The Season 1 and Season 2 weapons of The Burning Crusade are sold for a fixed amount of Honor, with no rating requirements.
  • Honor Points are earned in any modern PvP content: battlegrounds, daily and weekly PvP quest rewards.

Historically, back during The Burning Crusade itself, the blade was bought with arena points and required a certain personal rating. In the modern game those requirements have been removed — the appearance can be acquired by any character who has saved up Honor Points.

Visually suited for

  • Pairs with the Season 2 gladiator armor sets of The Burning Crusade — the blade's dark palette mirrors the color scheme of the "Merciless Gladiator's Gear" set.
  • Harmonizes with cloth sets in cold, dark tones — the bluish-steel edge fits the looks of mages and priests well.
  • Suits PvP-oriented caster looks where the recognizable arena aesthetic of the early expansions matters.
  • Looks striking when paired with a light staff or wand — a dagger in the off-hand adds a touch of severity to the ensemble.

Tips

1

Before buying, make sure the class can wield daggers — for transmog, all that matters is having a weapon of the right type in your inventory or appearance collection.

2

Honor Points are easiest to stockpile through weekly PvP quests on the battlegrounds: over a few evenings you accumulate enough for the entire dagger set at once.

3

The same vendor, Izzee the 'Clutch', sells all of the Season 1 and Season 2 weapons of The Burning Crusade — in a single visit you can gather several appearances at once.

4

Season 3 appearances and the daggers of the Wrath of the Lich King era are sold by other old-PvP-gear vendors in that same Netherstorm — plan your route in advance.

5

Once you obtain the item, learn its appearance through the transmogrification collection — after that the dagger itself can be sold or destroyed, and the look stays in your collection.

6

If you are assembling the full line of spellblades, start with the cheapest seasons — the cost in Honor Points varies only slightly between the different versions.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
