Mooncleaver — Transmog Set Guide
Overview

Mooncleaver is an epic two-handed axe with a massive blade shaped like a lunar crescent. The dark metal with its cold silvery-blue sheen and the curved edge make this look one of the most striking "lunar" two-handers of The Burning Crusade era.
This is a genuine crafted weapon, not a transmog illusion: the axe binds when picked up and is flagged as unique. Back in its day it was a top-tier item for warriors and paladins, but today it is created almost exclusively for the sake of its appearance.
The look belongs to The Burning Crusade expansion and is available only through the Blacksmithing profession with the dedicated Weaponsmith specialization, which makes it far from a common trophy.
Source
The item does not drop from bosses — it is crafted by blacksmiths. It sits at the top of one of the old weapon crafting chains.
- Profession — Blacksmithing, skill 375 and the "Weaponsmith" specialization (master level). Without the specialization the axe cannot be made.
- Key reagent —
Lunar Crescent, a base epic axe that is itself crafted by a weaponsmith and then upgraded into the Mooncleaver. - Additional reagents — primal elements of The Burning Crusade era, including
Primal Nether. - Binding — the finished item becomes personal upon creation and cannot be traded.
If you do not have the required specialization, arrange it with a weaponsmith blacksmith: it is enough to bring them the reagents, and they will assemble the axe for you. The pattern itself belongs to old content, so the materials have long since become cheap.
Who It Suits Visually
- Ideal for looks built around a lunar and nocturnal theme — for example, druid and priest sets in silvery-blue tones.
- Pairs well with the dark plate of a warrior or death knight thanks to the cold sheen of the metal.
- Looks great in "feral" or barbaric warrior concepts because of the rough, massive shape of the blade.
- Contrasts with the bright golden armor of a paladin — the axe sets a grim accent within a light ensemble.
Tips
If you are not a weaponsmith, it is cheaper and faster to order the axe from another player with the right specialization than to relearn the profession.
First you will have to craft the
Lunar Crescent, and only then upgrade it into the Mooncleaver — budget reagents for both stages.
The Burning Crusade-era reagents are inexpensive now, so the look is accessible to almost any collector.
The finished axe binds when picked up, so craft it right away on the character who needs the appearance.
The look is added to your collection forever after you first obtain the item — there is no need to create it again.
While you are at it, collect the base Lunar Crescent too: it is a separate look that also goes into your collection.
