Pandaren Kite String (Alliance): TWW 2026 Guide

Overview

Pandaren Kite String is a prestigious flying mount awarded for the Pandaren Ambassador achievement. The item with id=89785 is the Alliance version: it drops only for Alliance players, while the Horde has its own visually identical counterpart, the Pandaren Kite String (item=81559). The mounts are visually indistinguishable, but in the collection they are tied to different factions, so the Alliance needs exactly 89785.

The mount is a giant paper kite in a blue-gray color scheme: the character appears to hold onto a rope while the kite itself soars ahead. In 2026, in patch 11.1 (TWW Season 2), the kite string remains one of the most stylish and eye-catching rewards for old Pandaria reputation. It is still very rare in the game — most players skipped classic MoP and never came back for the full ambassadorship.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Status mount. It is rarely seen: most players abandon the Pandaria reputations at Revered without reaching Exalted with every faction.
  • Unique animation. The character flies while holding onto a kite. No other ground or flying mount looks like this.
  • Versatility. It is a full-fledged flying mount supporting +150%, +280%, and +310% speeds — suitable for Outland, Northrend, Pandaria, Draenor, the Broken Isles, Kul Tiras, Zandalar, and all TWW zones where flying is already allowed.
  • Knocks out two things at once. Along the way you will grind all the old Pandaria reputations, which gives a second mount per faction — the Reins of the Grand Expedition Yak, tabards, trinkets, and titles.
  • Account-wide. Once obtained, the mount is unlocked on all Alliance characters on the account.

If you have been playing Alliance for a long time and intend to farm the Pandaria achievements for other rewards anyway, it is worth grabbing the kite string at the same time.

Requirements and How to Get There

  • Faction: Alliance only. The Horde gets its version (81559) through the same achievement.
  • Character level: the achievement is available from level 10+, but a leveled level 80 character is more convenient for fast farming.
  • Riding skill: Apprentice is enough for ground mode, but Expert Riding is mandatory for flight.
  • Expansion: Mists of Pandaria (all Pandaria factions). Any modern account has access.
  • Achievement: Pandaren Ambassador — requires Exalted with nine Pandaria factions.
  • Binding: the item is bound to the character, but after use the mount unlocks for the entire account.

How to Reach Pandaria

  1. In Stormwind, open the portal to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms via the Tushui pandaren (or use the Command Table with a Pandaria mission).
  2. From the Vale of Eternal Blossoms you can quickly reach the Valley of the Four Winds, the Krasarang Wilds, and the other zones with daily quests.
  3. Alternative: a heroic teleport (Hearthstone set to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms) or a guild friendship stone.

Faction List for the Alliance

# Faction Where to Grind
1 Tushui Pandaren Stormwind (Alliance pandaren faction)
2 Order of the Cloud Serpent Kun-Lai Summit / Jade Forest
3 The Tillers Valley of the Four Winds, Halfhill village
4 The Anglers Krasarang Wilds
5 Golden Lotus Vale of Eternal Blossoms
6 Shado-Pan Kun-Lai Summit, Shado-Pan Garrison
7 The August Celestials Vale of Eternal Blossoms, temple dailies
8 The Klaxxi Dread Wastes
9 The Lorewalkers Books and scrolls all across Pandaria

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Make sure you are playing Alliance. If you transferred from the Horde, your progress on the Pandaria reputations is preserved, but the mount will arrive as the Alliance one (89785) only once the achievement is completed on an Alliance character.
  2. Open the Tushui pandaren quarter in Stormwind. Talk to them, take the introductory quests — Tushui reputation grinds slowly and passively through a single daily combat circuit.
  3. Fly to the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. This is the hub of all Pandaria: from here you unlock the dailies of the Golden Lotus, the August Celestials, and the Order of the Cloud Serpent.
  4. Start the quest chains in the Valley of the Four Winds (The Tillers), the Krasarang Wilds (The Anglers), at Kun-Lai Summit (Shado-Pan), and in the Dread Wastes (The Klaxxi).
  5. Collect all the Lorewalker scrolls — this reputation is farmed purely through exploration; the scrolls are scattered across the zones of Pandaria and give tens of thousands of reputation without dailies.
  6. Complete the dailies every day for all active factions. In TWW a buff for old reputations remains active that speeds up the farm (+50% to +100% reputation depending on the event).
  7. Reach Exalted with all nine factions. After closing out the last reputation, the Pandaren Ambassador achievement will trigger automatically.
  8. Collect the letter. The Pandaren Kite String will arrive in your mailbox as an item. Right-click to open it — the mount will be added to your collection and become available on all Alliance characters.

Farming Optimization

  • Catch the weeks of increased reputation. The Keepers of Time often enable +50%/+100% to all old reputation — during these windows the Pandaria reps close out in a matter of days.
  • Lorewalkers and Tillers first. These are the two easiest reps: the Lorewalkers can be closed out in a couple of hours by hunting scrolls, and the Tillers through cooperative neighbor dailies.
  • Keep a +10% reputation hat and medallion. The Pandaren Spirit Pet Supplies (or any modern replacement) and the guild buff give at least +10% to all earned reputation.
  • Collect the yak along the way. Along the reputation route you will earn Friends on the Farm anyway and be able to buy a second mount from Sho.
  • Use a Keepers of Time champion. In TWW you can send envoys for old Pandaria materials, which provides passive income of reputation and reputation-boosting items.
  • Farm the Klaxxi by camping rares. Their reputation is slow: in addition to dailies, clear all the Dread elite paragons and pick off rare mobs — each gives 500–1000 reputation.
  • Do not forget the Celestials' scrolls. Once a week each temple (the Red Crane, the Jade Serpent, the Black Ox, the White Tiger) offers a scenario for August Celestial reputation — 1000 rep in 10 minutes.

Tips

1

If you already have the Pandaren Kite String on the Horde (81559), you will have to obtain the Alliance 89785 separately — they are different collection rewards, even though they look the same.

2

After obtaining both versions, a third mount unlocks — the item_spellcloththreadJade Pandaren Kite String for the Grand Pandaren Ambassador achievement. This is a green jade kite with no faction restriction.

3

The Tushui pandaren reputation goes slower than the rest: start grinding it right away — it "ticks" in parallel with any MoP dailies.

4

The Klaxxi and Shado-Pan are initially available only from Friendly — to unlock their dailies, first complete the story chains in the Dread Wastes and at Kun-Lai Summit.

5

The kite string flies anywhere normal flight is allowed. In the new TWW zones (Khaz Algar and Nerub-ar) use it as a regular static flying mount; it cannot be controlled with dynamic flight.

6

The "Pandaren Ambassador" achievement is shown in the journal even after completion — you can cross-check the faction list and see how many remain.

7

The mount is account-wide, so grinding all nine reps once on a single Alliance character is enough.

Started playing back in Pandaria, when the pandaren were still a novelty. Got stuck on Monk because it's the only class where you don't get dizzy after a dash. Tries to manage both tanking and kicking enemies in the face.
