Overview

Ashhide Mushan Beast

Reins of the Ashhide Mushan Beast is a ground mount added in patch 5.5.0. It summons a massive armored mushan with a dark-grey hide that looks as if it were covered in ash. This is one of the most imposing ground steeds in the game: heavy armor, massive tusks, and a combat-ready stance.

The mount belongs to the PvP rewards: it is sold by Speaker Gulan on the Timeless Isle for 500 Bloody Coins. Bloody Coins drop only for killing players of the opposing faction while under a special effect, so the mount remains relatively rare — only a few collectors ride it.

In The War Within and patch 11.1 (2026) obtaining the mount is fully available: there are no level restrictions, and the Timeless Isle mechanic works without changes.

Why You Want This Mount

  • Rarity and status. Far from every player commits to PvP farming, so the ash-hided mushan is an uncommon sight and instantly sets you apart in a crowd.
  • Collection. It is one of four mushan mounts in the game, and the only one obtained for Bloody Coins.
  • Unique model. The mushan is a rare type of steed, resembling a hybrid of a bull, a boar, and a rhinoceros, with heavy armor and massive horns.
  • Achievement progress. The mount counts toward the overall tally for achievements such as Lord of the Reins and similar collection thresholds.
  • A memory of Pandaria. If you love the Pandaria theme, this mushan is one of the best ways to keep a connection to the continent after its prime.

Requirements and How to Get There

  • Character level: technically level 10 is enough, but for comfortable PvP on the Timeless Isle the maximum level is recommended (80 in TWW).
  • Riding skill: any (60% or 100% speed).
  • Timeless Isle unlocked. The island is accessible to all characters via a portal from the Vale of Eternal Blossoms or directly from the mount collector's Order Hall.
  • War Mode enabled. Without it you cannot attack players of the opposing faction in the open world.
  • Readiness for PvP. The farm is tied specifically to killing players: you cannot get the coins peacefully.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1. Reach the Timeless Isle

Open the world map, select Pandaria, and find the Timeless Isle east of the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. For characters of any level, a portal from Stonewatch (the faction capital on the continent) leads there, or you can fly in on a flying mount. Land at the Celestial Court — the island's main hub.

Step 2. Enable War Mode

Open the talents menu (N) and toggle War Mode at the bottom. Without it you cannot receive the censer's buff or attack the enemy faction in the open world.

Step 3. Find Speaker Gulan

Head to the coordinates /way 75 45 — this is the eastern part of the island, near the Blazing Way. Gulan stands by a campfire surrounded by yaungol who are friendly to both factions. He is the one who sells both the intermediate currency and the mount itself.

Step 4. Buy the First Censer

Gulan sells the Censer of Eternal Agony for 1,000 Timeless Coins. Timeless Coins are farmed on the island itself by killing mobs and opening chests — within a couple of hours you accumulate plenty.

Step 5. Get Your First 50 Bloody Coins

Activate the censer. It reduces your health by 90%, so before using it be sure to restore your HP to maximum. The buff lasts 1 hour and works only on the Timeless Isle.

Under this buff, kill max-level players of the opposing faction. For each kill you receive 1 Bloody Coin. You cannot kill the same player again — a debuff blocking the drop sits on them for 10 minutes.

Step 6. Buy the Fire-Watcher's Oath

As soon as you have 50 coins in hand, return to Gulan and buy the Fire-Watcher's Oath. Unlike the censer, this item works in any zone: in battlegrounds, in the open world in other locations, in epic PvP events — everywhere the opposing faction appears.

Step 7. Collect the Remaining 450 Coins

Activate the Fire-Watcher's Oath and farm coins by any convenient method:

  • Battlegrounds (especially Alterac Valley and Warsong Gulch — lots of kills).
  • Epic PvP zones like the Broken Shore with War Mode on.
  • Kills at shared The War Within quest hubs where players of both factions crowd together.

Step 8. Buy the Mount

When the counter shows 500 Bloody Coins, return to Speaker Gulan and buy the Reins of the Ashhide Mushan Beast. Use the item — and the mount will appear in your collection forever.

Farming Optimization

  • Play PvP classes. Coins are farmed best on classes with strong burst and mobility: Rogue, Demon Hunter, Destruction Warlock, Fury Warrior. They can finish off a low-HP player in seconds.
  • Random battlegrounds. With the Fire-Watcher's Oath this is the most stable method: each kill is a coin, plus honor and conquest points.
  • Epic Alterac Valley. Yields 30+ coins per match thanks to massive battles.
  • Group with friends. A pair of allies speeds up finishing off enemies and protects you from counterattacks.
  • Watch the buff cooldown. The Oath lasts 10 minutes — use it right before the battle starts, not while standing in the queue.
  • Choose your play hours. During prime time (evening) battlegrounds have the most people, which means more kills per minute.
  • Don't hunt the same target. The 10-minute debuff prevents you from getting a coin twice from one target — switch to fresh opponents.
  • Stockpile Timeless Coins in advance. If you plan to also buy other rewards from Gulan, keep a reserve of 5,000+ Timeless Coins.

Tips

1

The buff does not persist after death. If you are killed with an active censer or oath, you will have to activate it again. Don't get into hopeless fights.

2

Health before the censer. To repeat: the censer removes 90% of your HP, so activate it only at full health and out of combat.

3

Check the coin counter. Bloody Coins are shown in the "Currency" section of the character interface under the "Miscellaneous" tab.

4

There is no PvE alternative. You cannot get the mount peacefully — neither through the auction house nor through a purchase. PvP farming only.

5

Patience. On average, 500 coins take 20–40 hours of PvP depending on class and skill. Don't try to do it all in one evening.

6

It helps to level up in parallel achievements and win streaks on battlegrounds — they progress at the same pace as the farm.

7

Respect players in War Mode. Not everyone wants to fight. Focus on those who are truly ready for battle — it is both more ethical and more profitable in coins.
