Tundra Icehoof

Tundra Icehoof is a massive riding clefthoof with snow-white fur and frost-covered horns, one of three mounts that drop from the Rattling Iron Cage in Tanaan Jungle. The mount was added in the Warlords of Draenor expansion alongside patch 6.0.2 and is still one of the most striking ground clefthooves in the game.

Earning this mount is the classic daily farm of rare elites: you kill four rares in Tanaan Jungle, have a chance to get the cage, open it, and with a 33% chance receive the clefthoof specifically. In 2026, at level 80 (The War Within, patch 11.1), every enemy dies in seconds, and the whole daily loop takes 10–15 minutes.

• A rare and striking model. A huge shaggy clefthoof with icy growths is a great pick for northern-themed characters: shamans, druids, hunters and death knights.
• Three Tanaan mounts at once. While farming the Rattling Iron Cage, you also work toward Warsong Direfang and Armored Razorback. The same daily kills cover all three mounts.
• Progress toward collection achievements. It counts toward "Storm Rider", "A Horde of Hoofbeats: 400" and other collection milestones.
• No raids or PvP. Old-expansion solo content, doable at any level on any class.
• A quick daily loop. 10–15 minutes a day with a decent chance to wrap up the mount in 2–6 weeks.

The easiest way to reach Tanaan Jungle is through the Chromie chronicle in Stormwind or Orgrimmar: pick the "Warlords of Draenor" timeline and a story quest teleports you to Draenor. From Draenor's capitals (Lunarfall for the Alliance, Frostwall for the Horde) a separate portal leads to Tanaan Jungle. If you have built a garrison with a Dock, you can also start straight toward the Ogrillon Gate.

Step 1. Preparation

At level 80 no special preparation is needed: any spec of any class kills a Tanaan Jungle rare in one or two hits. It is worth enabling flying over Draenor — the Draenor Pathfinder achievement unlocks flight and dramatically speeds up the route. If you have no flying, use a ground mount and the garrison Dock.

Step 2. Daily Route Through the Four Rares

The optimal order around Tanaan Jungle:

1. Deathtalon — Ruins of Kra'nak, southwestern part of the zone.
2. Vengeance — Temple of Sha'naar, southeastern part of the zone.
3. Terrorfist — patrols between the Iron Front and the Rangari Refuge in the center of the zone.
4. Doomroller — by the entrance to Hellfire Citadel in the north of the zone.

Each rare is a rare elite enemy with a 1–3 hour respawn. If no one is up at a point, do a loop and come back in 15–30 minutes. On busy realms the rares are often killed by other players — it is enough to join the fight with even a single hit to get personal loot.

Step 3. Opening the Rattling Iron Cage

Each rare has about a 10% chance to drop the Rattling Iron Cage. Open it with a right-click — inside, with equal probability (about 33% each), is one of three mounts:

• Tundra Icehoof;
• Warsong Direfang;
• Armored Razorback.

The mount you receive is added to your account-wide collection.

Step 4. Repeat Daily

After the daily reset (7:00 server time) the loot limit on each rare refreshes. Even if you have already gotten one cage today, there is another chance tomorrow. The mount is not guaranteed from the cage, so plan on an average of 10–30 runs to finish it. If you are unlucky after 100+ loops — that is also statistically normal, keep going.

• Farm on several characters. The "once per rare per day" limit is a per-kill limit for each character. Four level-80 characters with Draenor flying unlocked give four times as many attempts per day.
• Use a level 3 garrison Dock. The The Right Weapon for the Job mission grants a Large Troop Transport, and a level 3 Dock opens direct voyages to Tanaan Jungle.
• Sign up for Premade Groups. The group finder constantly forms parties of 5–10 players who quickly clear all four rares. This saves time on searching and waiting for respawns.
• Take the Tanaan dailies at the same time. The zone also has SMP reward and reputation quests for Hemet Nesingwary and the Wrecking Crew running in parallel — they are completed along the way and grant garrison resources, gold and valor points for transmogrification.
• Don't forget the Murderous Shaman and other minions. Rares can be busy fighting small elites — finish off the rare first so you don't lose the loot window to someone else's timer.
• Marker and minimap tracking. Use the Rarity addon or HandyNotes: Draenor Treasures — they show rare cooldowns and spawn points.
