Armored Irontusk

Overview

The Armored Irontusk is a ground elekk mount clad in heavy battle armor that was added in the Warlords of Draenor expansion and remains a relevant reward in 2026 (The War Within, Season 2, patch 11.1). The mount is available only to Alliance characters and is one of the signature rewards of the Sha'tari Defense faction. The Horde equivalent is the Ironside War Wolf from the Vol'jin's Spear faction.

The elekk is covered in spiked armor designed to stand against the Iron Horde: according to lore, the animal has long hated orcs because of the torment they inflicted on its kin. The mount counts toward your collection and toward the Sha'tari Defense achievement, which also grants the title "the Peacemaker."

Why you want this mount

  • A massive steel-clad elekk is one of the most striking ground models in Draenor.
  • An Alliance exclusive: it cannot be obtained on the Horde, which makes it a status piece in collections.
  • It comes with an achievement and the title "the Peacemaker," along with a Sha'tari Defense transmogrification set.
  • It matches any armor thanks to its neutral gold-and-gray color scheme.
  • In 2026 Draenor reputation gains were significantly sped up, so the farm has become reasonable in terms of time.

Requirements and how to get there

Requirement Value
Faction Alliance
Character level 30+ (level 80 recommended for quick mob kills)
Riding skill Apprentice Riding
Reputation Exalted with Sha'tari Defense
Garrison Draenor, Lunarfall (Shadowmoon Valley)
Building Trading Post level 2 or higher
Cost 5,000 gold + 5,000 Apexis Crystals
Vendor Maaria at the Lunarfall Trading Post

To gain access to the Sha'tari Defense faction you absolutely need a Trading Post of at least level 2 in your garrison on Draenor. Without this building reputation is not awarded, and the quartermaster Maaria is unavailable.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Fly to Draenor and complete the introductory garrison-building quest chain in Shadowmoon Valley — this unlocks access to Lunarfall.
  2. Upgrade the small "Trading Post" building to level 2. The level 2 blueprint is sold by the garrison quartermaster and requires a small amount of garrison resources.
  3. Build the Trading Post and talk to Maaria to activate reputation gains with Sha'tari Defense.
  4. For maximum speed, upgrade the Trading Post to level 3: this grants a 20% bonus to Draenor reputation gains.
  5. Head to Talador — this is where the reputation is farmed. The main points are Shadowmoon Burial Grounds (port and city) and Bladespire Citadel in the northeast of the zone, just above Fort Wrynn.
  6. Kill level 100 mobs in these zones. Bladespire Citadel is considered the fastest spot due to mob density.
  7. While farming, collect Apexis Crystals at the same time: level 100 daily quests give 800 crystals each, and garrison work orders provide additional batches.
  8. Once you reach Exalted, return to Maaria and buy the Armored Irontusk for 5,000 gold and 5,000 Apexis Crystals.
  9. Use the item to add the mount to your collection — it will immediately be available on all characters of the account.

Farming optimization

  • Place a Standard of Unity before you start clearing — +15% reputation within its area of effect.
  • Use the Darkmoon reputation buff during Darkmoon Faire week (+10%) and any holiday buffs if they are active.
  • In your garrison, build and activate a Trading Post-style follower advisor that lowers the reputation requirement: some faction tasks appear on the mission table.
  • Bladespire Citadel is preferable to Shadowmoon Burial Grounds: the mobs stand more densely and respawn faster.
  • Stockpile Apexis Crystals in advance through daily quests in Talador, Gorgrond and Nagrand — this lets you avoid returning to the farm after reaching Exalted.
  • The "Apexis Crystals" bonus week gives +200% to collection: time your farm to it, and 5,000 crystals can be gathered in a couple of evenings.
  • Work in a group of 2–3 people: although experience is shared, mob mortality is higher, and each participant keeps their own reputation gains.
  • After clearing one zone, don't wait for respawns — immediately fly to the neighboring point in Talador; the mobs respawn in waves.

Tips

1

The mount is a ground mount and cannot fly. For travel around Draenor use a separate flying mount and keep the irontusk as a showpiece.

2

If you already have characters on Draenor, it makes sense to farm reputation on the highest-level one — the kills go several times faster.

3

Don't spend Apexis Crystals on old Warlords of Draenor gear items: they have long been irrelevant, and saving up again takes a long time.

4

You will receive the achievement and the title "the Peacemaker" automatically upon reaching Exalted, so the trip to Maaria will close several collection goals at once.

5

For the Horde, the equivalent is bought from the Vol'jin's Spear faction in the War Portal; the principle is the same, but the building and quartermaster are their own.
