Overview

Ironbound Wraithcharger

Bridle of the Ironbound Wraithcharger summons the Ironbound Wraithcharger — an armored skeletal horse wrapped in a bluish, otherworldly glow. This mount was added in patch 6.2.2 alongside the Timewalking system and has remained one of the most recognizable Timewalking rewards ever since.

The mount is both flying and ground at once: in older locations it automatically switches to running mode, and in zones where flight is allowed it spreads its wings and reaches the normal speed of a flying mount. You can only obtain it during the Timewalking: Wrath of the Lich King event from the vendor Auzin in Dalaran over Northrend.

In 2026, during Season 2 of The War Within (patch 11.1), and given that Timewarped Badges are now account-bound, gathering 5,000 badges has become noticeably easier than before.

Why you want this mount

  • Rare appearance. The Ironbound Wraithcharger is one of the few semi-transparent equine mounts and looks striking in any mounted group.
  • Versatility. The mount works as both a ground and a flying mount, so it is convenient to keep on your Summon Random Favorite Mount button.
  • Achievements. It counts toward your overall mount tally and helps you reach the rewards for 250, 400, and more mounts.
  • Limited availability. The mount is sold only during the WotLK Timewalking week — which makes it a hallmark of a long-time collector and a good reason not to miss the event.

Requirements and how to get there

  • Character level: at least 10 for the riding skill, but in practice you need a level 80 character to clear Timewalking dungeons without trouble.
  • Riding skill: the basic tier for ground mode, Master Riding for flight. At level 80 everything is unlocked automatically.
  • Timewarped Badges: 5,000 of them, which accumulate on your account.
  • Active event: the Timewalking: Wrath of the Lich King week. It comes up roughly every 8–10 weeks on the overall Timewalking schedule.
  • Faction and reputation: not required, the vendor serves anyone who comes.
  • How to reach Dalaran over Northrend:
    • From Oribos, use the portal to Dalaran over Northrend if it is opened by a seasonal mechanic.
    • Alternative: a hearthstone set to Dalaran (many characters have the Ring of the Northern Star or the Ring of the Kirin Tor).
    • Through the portal room in Stormwind/Orgrimmar, take the portal to Northrend and fly to Dalaran.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Wait for the WotLK Timewalking week. The schedule is published in the game's official calendar. In 2026, as part of the Turbulent Timeways event, the Northrend week recurs within a 10-week cycle.
  2. Pick up the weekly quest. In the Adventure Guide, find the quest "Time Waits for No One" — upon completing your first Timewalking dungeon it grants a bonus item worth 500 badges.
  3. Run the Timewalking dungeons. Using Group Finder in Timewalking mode, queue into random Northrend dungeons. Each completion gives 75–125 badges plus the rewards for your first dungeon of the day and week.
  4. Farm on your alts. The most efficient route is to run one dungeon on each level 80 character and collect the bonus 500 badges from the quest on each. Five alts close out 2,500+ badges in a couple of hours.
  5. Transfer the currency to your main. Open the "Currency" tab on the collecting character and use the "Transfer" button — the badges are immediately available across your entire account.
  6. Fly to Dalaran over Northrend. From Oribos, use the portal or a hearthstone if it is set to Dalaran.
  7. Find the vendor Auzin. The NPC stands by the fountain in Runeweaver Square, in the central part of the city, next to the other Timewalking vendors.
  8. Buy the bridle. In the vendor window, select the line "Bridle of the Ironbound Wraithcharger" and confirm the purchase for 5,000 badges.
  9. Use the bridle. Right-click the item in your bag — the mount is added to your shared collection and becomes available to every character on the account.
  10. Check your collection. Open "Collections" → "Mounts" and make sure the Ironbound Wraithcharger appears there. Summon the mount in a zone with flight to verify that it switches correctly between ground and flying mode.

Farm optimization

  • The weekly quest is the priority. 500 badges for your first dungeon of the week is the best time investment: a single dungeon takes 15–20 minutes, while the payoff is equivalent to 4–6 extra runs.
  • Alt rotation. If you have 5–10 level 80 characters, one dungeon and the quest on each alt will give you 5,000 badges in a single event week.
  • Group farming. In a pre-made group of a tank, a healer, and three damage dealers, the Northrend Timewalking dungeons clear in 8–12 minutes.
  • Don't spend badges on consumables. The Timewalking vendors also sell weapons and gems — hold off on purchases until you have bought the mount.
  • Watch for bonuses. Blizzard periodically enables a "+50% badges" bonus during major seasonal events — if it is active, focus on dungeons specifically that week.
  • Turbulent Timeways. During the Turbulent Timeways meta-event, all Timewalking eras are available in turn — don't miss the Northrend week, or you will be waiting months for the next one.

Tips

1

The mount is only available during the Timewalking: Wrath of the Lich King week — at other times Auzin does not sell the bridle, even if you already have the badges.

2

The mount is account-bound: after purchase it is immediately available to every character of any faction on all your servers.

3

If you are still unsure whether to spend the badges, collect other limited-availability rewards first: the mount will stay in Auzin's stock during the following WotLK Timewalking weeks as well.

4

The mount's speed depends on your riding skill: at maximum skill it grants +100% ground speed and up to +310% flight speed in modern locations.
