Infernal Direwolf

Overview

Infernal Direwolf is a ground mount from the Warlords of Draenor expansion. It is a dark-green, Fel-runed direwolf of Draenor that stands out from ordinary Draenor wolves thanks to its unique infernal coloring and a dark glowing effect.

The mount is awarded for the meta-achievement "Glory of the Hellfire Raider," which bundles together 13 separate achievements for clearing the bosses of the Hellfire Citadel raid under special conditions. All of the achievements can be earned on Normal difficulty and above, and the reward is the "Infernal Direwolf" item; once learned, the mount becomes available to every character on the account.

Why Get This Mount

There are several reasons to add the Infernal Direwolf to your collection.

  • Unique appearance. It is the only Draenor direwolf with Fel coloring and a grim infernal effect — it looks striking in a collection and stands apart from the dozens of ordinary wolves.
  • Thematic fit. The mount suits orc characters, warlocks, demon hunters, and any heroes tied to the themes of the Fel, the Burning Legion, and the lore of Draenor.
  • Achievement and points. The meta-achievement "Glory of the Hellfire Raider" itself grants 25 achievement points and a special title among your raiding accolades.
  • Accessibility in 2026. At level 90, the entire Hellfire Citadel raid can be cleared solo in a single run, so the mount is easy to obtain in one evening without a group.
  • Collection bonus. Killing all the bosses along the way also gives you a chance to drop another rare mount — the "Felsteel Annihilator" from Archimonde on Mythic difficulty — as well as a large amount of transmog appearances.

Requirements

To obtain the Infernal Direwolf you will need the following.

  • A level 90 character (level 60+ can theoretically manage it too, but 90 makes the raid trivial).
  • The "Apprentice Riding" skill and the ability to use ground mounts.
  • Access to the Hellfire Citadel raid (Tanaan Jungle, Draenor).
  • Normal difficulty or higher. The achievements do not count on Raid Finder.
  • A few achievements require at least 2–3 players (more details in the "Step-by-Step Guide" section). The rest can be done solo.
  • Item level 600+ gear is recommended for a comfortable solo clear, along with a few free hours for the first run.

The "Infernal Direwolf" item is Bind on Pickup and account-bound — once learned, the mount becomes available to all of your characters.

Step-by-Step Guide

Below is a sequential plan for clearing the raid, with a description of the condition for each of the 13 achievements. The recommended order matches the boss order in the raid.

  1. Nearly Indestructible (Hellfire Assault). Protect both cannons from being destroyed. At level 90 the cannons take almost no damage — simply kill all the mini-bosses and waves of mobs.

  2. Turning the Tide (Iron Reaver). Defeat the boss after it has used its "Emergency Mode" ability at least twice. Solo — wait until 30% and 10% health, skipping the activation.

  3. Waves Came Crashing Down All Around (Kormrok). Defeat Kormrok while being knocked into the air by his "Pound" wave at least once. Stand in melee range and don't dodge the wave.

  4. Don't Fear the Reaper (Hellfire High Council). Kill all three council members within less than 10 seconds of each other. Deal damage evenly, finish the first one off, and switch quickly.

  5. A Race Against Slime (Kilrogg Deadeye). Defeat the boss before the Bloodletting Slime completely fills the energy bar. Solo — he dies faster than you can blink.

  6. Get In My Belly! (Gorefiend). Let yourself be devoured by Gorefiend, survive inside his stomach, and leave it. Requires at least 2 players — bring a friend or a partner.

  7. Pro Toss (Shadow-Lord Iskar). Kill the boss while passing the Sacred Relic between players at least 15 times. Impossible solo — you need 2 players, at least a second character via an invite.

  8. I'm a Soul Man (Socrethar the Eternal). Collect at least 20 animated Haunting Souls during the fight. Doable solo, but stretch the fight out using the mech mechanic.

  9. This Land Was Green and Good Until... (Fel Lord Zakuun). Defeat the boss while his "Seed of Destruction" ability is active at least once. Just don't kill him too quickly.

  10. You Gotta Keep 'em Separated (Xhul'horac). Don't let the Void and the Fel collide and spawn Chaos. Kill the Fel and Void orbs separately.

  11. Non-Lethal Enforcer (Tyrant Velhari). Kill the boss without using any crowd control on her and without interrupting her spells. At level 90 the boss simply won't have time to do anything.

  12. Bad Manner(oth) (Mannoroth). Don't allow even a single Doom Lord to be killed on the platform. Push them off using knockback abilities.

  13. Echoes of Doomfire (Archimonde). Defeat Archimonde while keeping at least one player with the lingering "Doomfire" effect. Just take the debuff yourself and don't die.

After completing all 13 achievements, open the "Achievements" tab (Y) and claim the "Infernal Direwolf" item from the reward window or by mail.

Farming Optimization

A few tips to help you clear the raid as quickly and smoothly as possible.

  • Go in solo at level 90 — this significantly lowers the difficulty of the bosses, and most mechanics are ignored thanks to your health and damage reserves.
  • The "Get In My Belly!" and "Pro Toss" achievements require a second player. Invite a friend, a guildmate, or create a second character on the same account through the Recruit-A-Friend feature — the achievement counts for both.
  • Set the difficulty to "Normal" at the raid-adjustment NPC by the entrance — on it all conditions count and the bosses fall instantly.
  • Use teleports and height jumps: the Felstorm Spire and the "Well of Souls" quest chain can be used as shortcuts so you don't have to run on foot.
  • Farm in parallel: in a single run you also get a chance at the "Felsteel Annihilator" mount from Archimonde (on Mythic), tons of transmog appearances, and gold from selling items.
  • Keep your save: the achievements "stick" to your character forever, so you can finish them off one at a time across different weeks if you can't get everything in one go.
  • Turn off addons that interfere with executing nonstandard mechanics (for example, automatic spell interrupting — it will ruin "Non-Lethal Enforcer").
