Overview

Trained Rocktusk

Trained Rocktusk is a battle boar from the Warlords of Draenor era that a player earns after a series of tasks at the Garrison Stables. The mount is a ground mount, uses Apprentice Riding, and unlocks at character level 17. In 2026, during Midnight, this mount is still available to farm and is still considered one of the most atmospheric "boar" steeds in the collection.

The Rocktusk is a large armored boar with reddish bristles and distinctive tusks that resemble rock. The model was created specifically for the Stables quest series and is found only among the six Draenor mounts trained at the Stables.

Why You Want This Mount

  • A unique boar model that no other mount in the game has.
  • An excellent "collector's" mount: +1 to your total mount count.
  • The quest chain is entirely solo and requires no raids, dungeons, or random drops.

Requirements and How to Get There

Before you start farming, make sure you have everything you need.

  • A character at level 40 or higher (50+ recommended for fast Draenor progress).
  • An unlocked Garrison in Draenor — the Stormshield or Lunarfall intro storyline completed.
  • A Garrison upgraded to level 2.
  • An outpost established in Nagrand.
  • The Stables blueprint purchased from the blueprint vendor for 1000 gold.
  • A level 1 Stables built on a large Garrison plot.
  • Character level 17 and the Apprentice Riding skill.

The Stables can be visited on any character; they are account-bound through the mount collection: once you obtain the Rocktusk, you unlock it for all characters.

Step-by-Step Guide

The Rocktusk chain consists of an initial capture and nine daily training sessions. It takes about 10 real days because of the daily cooldowns on the quests.

Step 1. Build the Stables

Head to your Garrison, open the architect's table, and build the Stables on a large plot. If the large plot is currently occupied by another building, tear it down — you will need the Stables for at least 10–12 days.

Step 2. Pick Up the Intro Quest at the Stables

Go inside the Stables. The quest giver (Keegan Firebeard for the Alliance or Tormak the Scarred for the Horde) gives a series of six starter quests for different mounts. One of them — Besting a Boar — sends you to Gorgrond.

Step 3. Catch a Young Rocktusk

Fly to Gorgrond, to the Gorgrond jungle area. You will have the Boar Lasso equipped. Find a Young Rocktusk, use the lasso on it, and follow it until it tires out. Then interact with it — the quest will complete, and the apprentice boar will appear at your Stables.

Step 4. Complete the Daily Training Sessions

Every day, return to the quest giver at the Stables and take the next training quest. You mount the apprentice boar and carry out a combat task. The quest list:

  1. Boar Training: Moth of Wrath
  2. Boar Training: Darkwing Roc
  3. Boar Training: Thundercall
  4. Boar Training: Cruel Ogres
  5. Boar Training: Orc Hunters
  6. Other rotating quests focused on hunting and endurance.

The order may differ from the list — the game hands out quests in a random sequence. In total you need to complete 9 training days.

Step 5. The Final Fight with Maimclaw

On the tenth day you will be offered the quest Boar Training: The Garn. Fly to Nagrand, to the lair of Maimclaw — a lone garn in the northern part of the zone. Fight it without dismounting from the apprentice boar. The fight lasts about 1–2 minutes, with no special mechanics — the main thing is not to fall off and to use the abilities on the boar's action bar.

After the victory, turn in the quest at the Stables and receive the Trained Rocktusk and 50 Garrison Resources.

Farming Optimization

  • Visit the Stables at the same time every day — this guarantees that you do not miss the daily reset and finish within 10 real days.
  • Use a Garrison flying mount for fast travel between Gorgrond and Nagrand.
  • If you have several characters with Garrisons, run the chain on one — the mount is account-bound and will automatically appear on all of them.
  • Before the final fight with Maimclaw, clear out the surrounding mobs so a stray add does not knock you out of the saddle.

Tips

1

Do not dismantle the Stables until you earn the Master of Mounts achievement, otherwise you will have to rebuild them and redo the entire starter series.

2

The training boar is a temporary mount; it disappears from your bags after the final quest, so do not waste upgrades or cosmetics on it.

3

If the boar training quest has not appeared for some reason, check whether there was a quest at the quest giver that you skipped the day before — sometimes the chain is blocked until it is turned in.

4

The Trained Rocktusk looks great paired with dark-brown and red Draenor armor — it emphasizes the mount's wild nature.

5

For players working toward the Lord of the Reins achievement, the Stables chain grants six mounts in a couple of weeks — it is one of the most rewarding sources in the game in terms of effort-to-mount ratio.
