Get Warforged Nightmare mount

Warforged Nightmare is one of the most spectacular steed mounts in World of Warcraft. This menacing steel horse, clad in spikes and chains and wreathed in flame and the souls of the fallen, first appeared in the in-game store back in June 2014 and has remained a recognizable symbol of an aggressive style ever since. In appearance it is a reinforced version of the classic Nightmare Horse from the old raids, but in a "warforged" form: its body is covered in massive metal plates, fire bursts from its mouth and mane, and sparks flare beneath its hooves.

The mount is account-wide: once you obtain it on one character, you can summon it on any hero on any realm. The Warforged Nightmare serves as both a ground and a flying mount — the movement type automatically adjusts to your riding skill and the rules of the location. In the current game version (Midnight, 2026) the mount remains fully functional and regularly returns to the Trading Post rotation.

• Unique appearance. The fiery steel horse stands out noticeably against the standard models.
• Bonus Nightmarish Hitching Post toy. When you first obtain the mount, a letter from the "Forgotten Smith" arrives in your mail with the Nightmarish Hitching Post toy attached. It lets you grant a copy of the mount to your entire group for 20 minutes.
• Versatility. The steed works as both a ground and a flying mount — you don't need separate options for different riding levels.
• Entire account. Buy it once — it's unlocked on all characters and all future heroes.
• Collector's value. The mount is available only through real money or Traveler's Tender, so you can't buy it on the open market.

To obtain the mount you need:

• An active World of Warcraft game account (subscription or game time). Without an active subscription you won't receive the monthly Traveler's Tender.
• Any character level 10 or higher — that's the level at which access to the Trading Post opens in the capitals (Stormwind and Orgrimmar).
• The "Apprentice Riding" skill and a level of at least 1 to use the mount. If your character doesn't yet have a flying license, the mount will work as a ground mount.
• 700 Trading Tender to purchase at the Trading Post OR about 30 US dollars / the equivalent in your local currency to buy it directly from the Blizzard store.

The Trading Post is located in Stormwind (in the Trade District) and in Orgrimmar (by the main gate). It refreshes on the first of every month. The mount doesn't appear in the rotation every month: it first arrived at the Trading Post in January 2025 and has periodically returned to its lineup since then.

Option 1: Purchase at the Trading Post (recommended)

1. Log into the game with a character level 10 or higher.
2. Open the Trading Post. In Stormwind it sits by the Mage Quarter near the Stockade — look for the vendor named Tavissa Tames; in Orgrimmar it's Jakkala by the gates. You can also reach the Trading Post via the icon in the interface next to the map.
3. Check the current lineup. The Warforged Nightmare mount doesn't appear in the lineup every month. If it's on the list — go ahead with the purchase. If it's not there, jump to step 6 and wait for the next refresh.
4. Make sure you have 700 Trading Tender in your account. The balance is shown in the upper-right corner of the Trading Post window.
5. Click "Buy." The mount appears in your collection immediately (press C → the "Mounts" tab).
6. Wait for the letter from the "Forgotten Smith." Within a few minutes of the purchase you'll receive an in-game letter with the Nightmarish Hitching Post toy attached. Collect it and add it to your toy collection (Shift+P).

Option 2: Purchase from the Blizzard store

1. Go to the official Blizzard store website from the Battle.net client or through a browser (World of Warcraft → Store section).
2. Find the Warforged Nightmare mount in the mounts section.
3. Select the account to which you want to make the purchase.
4. Pay for the purchase with any method available in your region.
5. Log into the game. The mount will appear in your collection automatically, and a letter with the Nightmarish Hitching Post toy will arrive in your mailbox.

After the Purchase

1. Summon the mount via the collection (C → "Mounts") or place it on your action bar.
2. Check the toy. Open the toy collection (Shift+P) and find the Nightmarish Hitching Post. Place it on your action bar.
3. Try the hitching post in a group. In a dungeon, raid, or open world with a party, use the toy — a hitching post appears, visible only to group members. When interacting, each participant gets the "Nightmarish Reins" buff for 20 minutes: their current mount visually transforms into a copy of the Warforged Nightmare.

If you plan to buy at the Trading Post, first save up 700 tender. At a steady pace you can earn 1000 tender per month: 500 arrive automatically from the "Collector's Cache" on the first of each month, and up to another 500 come from completing tasks in the Traveler's Log.

Tips for quickly gathering tender:

• Open the Traveler's Log. Press Shift+J → the "Traveler's Log" tab. The tasks change every month.
• Choose easy tasks. Killing mobs, turning in quests, and visiting locations are usually the fastest to complete. Take raids and arenas only if you're already going there for other reasons.
• Do cross-content tasks. One action often closes out several log entries at once — for example, killing a boss in M+ counts toward "mythic+," "dungeon," and "boss kill" alike.
• Don't forget holiday events. During major in-game holidays (Brewfest, Winter Veil, etc.) there are usually special traveler tasks.
• Save up between months. If the mount isn't in the current lineup, calmly save tender for the next one. The maximum cap is 1000 tender, so spend the extra on cheap rewards or cosmetics.
